Why is every thing in the auctions expensive. Im finally lv 10 and i need to upgrade my amour and stuff, and i dont even know how thats possable when its like 2,000 just for a onion sword.

By lv 10 you can make 100-200k from crystals alone on the AH. You can buy w/e you want. If you havnt bothered to make cash this way buy from shops around the town, venders will sell stuff for 100-1000gil for lv10 stuff, its real cheap.

More often than not, you can find most of the equipment you need at NPC's throughout the starting cities Bastok, San dOria, Windurst.

You just need to know who sells what, where and how much.

You will usually end up paying more on the Auction House than at an NPC shop.
If there is gear in another starting city that you can't get to, you may consider creating a mule in each of the other two starting cities. You'll end up needing them later.

Killing monsters with signet on. Signet can be casted on you by any of the gate gaurds with names ending in I.M (Iron Musketeer).

When you say 100-200k... was that a typo for 1,000-2,000... or do you really mean 1,000,000-2,000,000? Because if you do... I'm going crystal farming...

Yes, made 200k on crystals on my new char then I changed race and did it again. Im lv29 sitting ontop of about 2mil and my equip is pretty pimped as well. Moneys not that hard too make.

Whenever possible buy everything from npcs and sell everything on the ah.

If you know what your doing probably. A completely new player won't make that though.

New Player != New Character

To the OP, since a lot of at least your low levels will be funded by farming, you need to find what drops in areas that you can safely farm that is worth while.

In Bastok, you have bees which drop beehive chips
In San d'Oria there are Funguars that drop sleepshrooms, bunnies for rabbit hides
In Windurst, there's bees and bunnies and crawlers for silk (low drop rate)

Since you're around lvl 10 you can still get EXP from them so with Signet on you can also get Crystals to drop. You'll also still get Beastmen's Seals which can help you make gil farther on down the road.

If you know what you're doing and you're trying to farm up crystals (and beastmen seals at the same time), then I could see 100k-200k on the way to level 10.

San - Fire/Dark/Lightning crystals - Orcs/Lizards/Goblins (some dropping lightning)/Fungar.

I never really tried doing it anywhere else. Windurst doesn't seem too good for crystal farming. Mostly water/earth/wind, save for goblins. Bastok could be good if the lizards there drop fire crystals, although I keep thinking that they drop earth... Otherwise it's just goblins for crystals too.

It's mainly earth crystals in Bastok and some wind as well. I was only getting 100gil per stack of earth crystals when I started, so you don't always get a lot of money from them.
