  • This is a first for me.

Now that I have a good gil income going from my crafting I some times help new players out. Now what usealy happens is that I will give them some gil not very much and hook them up with sombody looking to party and thats the last I ever see or hear of them agen. Now hears where it gets good I'm in carpenters landing cutting lumber when I get a tell from a Kiro saying that they just sent me the money they owed me. I'm like ok uh thanks and they said you don't remember me do you? And I had to say no. The long and short of it is that they said they were one of the players I'd helped and they were saying thanks and here was the money I had given them. So when I got back to my mog house I checked my box and the had sent me a 1000gil I know that I have never given anyone that much gil. Now I don't know if I should send it back or keep it. I'm glad they remembered that I helped them but I don't think it was worth that much.

I would say keep it, They were showing you the same kindness you showed them. They felt they wanted to give you that much so why deny them the pleasure of knowing they helped you?

That's actually a nice story. I know that honesty is not very common these days in the game, but I got a tell once from a character stating that she had gil for me and that she wanted to give it back to me. What struck me odd was that I had in no way given gil to anyone of that name. But then I remembered the player's name and realized that I had a mule by the same name a LONG time ago. The odd thing was that apparently I had sent that mule items and then I had not bothered to check delivery box on that mule before deleting it off. Imagine that players surprise when first creating her new character and finding the delivery box jammed with items!

I did thank her for her honesty, but told her that the item and subsequent gils were by right hers and that she should use it to help herself. :p

Keep it. I did a similar thing where I paid back someone who helped me and if they had sent it back saying something like "You need this more than me", I would have been a bit offended.

I would keep it, they are returning kindness.

Which for any starting people 1k gil can still mean alot. (time and time might pass, and you might still in "newbie" ranks.. depends on your play-time and other crap)

If the newbie felt that 1000g was what he owed you (for whatever reason) then just take the 1000g.

1,000 gil probably is alot to that new player, and that's exactly why you should keep it. It's part of what makes his gesture valuable (not monetarily valuable, but morally valuable, to him).

Sort of OT, but I overpaid 10k on some random item on the AH the other day in Bastok in the hopes of giving some newb a nice present. The funny part is, he's probably laughing with his ls mates about that moron Hamlet that overbid his crap item. Lol.

If I find something like that in my DB, I go check the price history to see who did it and send some (not all) of it back.

Re: This is a first for me.

I normally sell things in bursts on auction, and when I empty my delivery box I rarely check how much came from each item.

I guess maybe I would if it was something like 10 million...

As to original topic, keep it. I give new players money all the time if they ask me for help and DON'T ask for gil. I don't think anyone has paid me back yet though (BUt I don't expect it)
