Disconnects! >.<

So my gf (RDM), my friend (NIN), and I (NIN) decided to do a 3 person lvl 40 BCNM... Under Observation.

It's his 2398742348th time doing it, but for my GF and I, our first.

/rant
His strategy is working VERY well. She kites the lead Hecteyes with Gravity to the bottom, then Binds it while him and I each take on the other 2 with our Ninja elementals. We kill ours, and rush down for the lead Hecteyes.

We get it down to about 15% life left, when my friend and I both start disconnecting. We both can't do anything. I then see my connection slowly going back up again. What a relief!

"You have lost connection to the server, blah blah blah."

WHAT?!?!?!

We're all on Ventrilo, and he tells us that he actually stayed on. I rush to restart the game. As I'm logging in, he tells us he dies. My GF is PT leader at this point.

I managed to spawn inside the battle area, just in time for my GF to invite me again. Seconds after I join, she dies. I bring it down to %5, when it casts it's final Firaga, and I die.

It's my goal to disconnect (beyond my control) during every sort of event in the game.

So far I've completed disconnects here:
-Dynamis
-EXP
-Idling
-Fishing
-Crafting
-Zoning
-BCNM
-KSNM
-Limbus
-Assault
-Besieged
-Logging off
-Mid-HNM fight/camping.
-Farming

What I have yet to disconnect on:
-ENM

I've had that thing where you start recovering and then it boots you too. It's annoying. ><

This is my own experience and is yet unproven, but has worked for me 99% of the time. Basically when you notice you're disconnecting ... stop doing anything. Just wait. When it is recovering, don't do squat. Wait a couple of seconds after your connection recovers to 100% and then you may do whatever you want at this point.

I can't explain this too fully right now, but when you're recovering, there's a wash of tremendous data slamming your client from the server and you need your own PC to be able to process these requests and have POL time to breath after.

I r0 so much that I just keep doing what I'm doing anyway. Disconnecting after recovering is still really rare for me.

Actually, they deserved it anyway. I wouldn't write them up for the hell of it. I'm actually a nice guy who usually just gives warnings. 2 of these people have 7 occasions in the past couple of months.

Example...

I work at UPS, so of course we had July 4th of, but NOT Monday.

This one guy called in "Sick" Monday, then Wed, Thur, AND Fri. Showed up LATE the Fri before, and this past Mon. :-P

I have never experienced a disconnect. I've been playing for 2 or 3 months on the Xbox 360.

The only time when I was experiencing dissconnects was when I started to play the game. I would get one every 30 minutes after logging in. Turns out I had to clean my fan : ). I've never disconnected since.

Aeni, that method is actually very logical. The more you start doing the more there is that the session has to syncronize. The fatal flaw though is if anyone else is around you that is also moving, it makes syncronizing harder to do and increases chances of disconnecting still.

Matera, if the router is disconnecting you then depending on the router and your system there are things you can do to avoid this (Especially if it's a router by Cisco, retail brand being Linksys).

What happens is if you don't configure your router's Port Fowarding and Port Triggering right for the game or you haven't configured the UPnP correctly on the system and if the router has UPnP capabilities you may not of activated it.

If none of that is done when you attempt to do anything that uses the TCP and UDP ports through a NAT router then the router starts challenging the connection. This causes an extra CRC check delaying the data to your system and further adding to the syncronization problem.

If you have UPnP active or do Port Fowarding and Port Triggering then you are telling the router never challenge a connection from those ports. So the router will just end up sending the data directly to you. This will give you a High ID instead of the Low ID which allows for the potential of the connection speed to hit much higher and better performance.

Be aware if you are not able to do UPnP and have to do Port Forwarding and Port Triggering always remember to enable them before the program uses and always disable them when done using.

If you don't do this those ports remain open and allow a path in for a hacker to get around the NAT router.

I've never disconnected before... maybe because my connection is wired, and my internet is uber fast? I don't know.

I've been having some problems with connection since I started playing again. It started out small, random disconnects here and there. I figured it might have something to do with my connection speed, so I upgraded from 4 MB to 8 MB cable. This was about a month ago, and now I lag constantly and get disconnected several times a day. It isn't enough lag to make the game unplayable, but it's enough to really screw with me when I'm tanking something. None of my router's settings were changed when I upgraded, and the lag extends to every single online game that is played on my network. I'm paying more money a month for worse intarweb service. D:
