Re: best job
So far, White Mage. It's just... a really satisfying job. I do my best to keep the party going, and do so as efficiently as I can, without saying a word. Lots of times where I "know" we wouldn't be getting the XP we're getting with a different WHM, or when a melee/tank never has time to ask for a status removal. It's not a job where you get noticed as being really good (except by Paladins, and other people who've leveled WHM), but there's a lot of personal satisfaction.
'Course, I also really dig Dragoon and Samurai (at least as far as I've played them). Soloing with Dragoon is fun, and scary enough at times to stay exciting. And one of the best times I've had so far was taking Samurai through the Dunes, pulling, tanking, being the top physical DD and setting up at least two skillchains in every party.Ellipses on Fenrir
There is no rush. If you're not willing to take your time, don't be surprised when no one wants to give you much of theirs.

Re: best job
I think Aelathir is best suited to answer this question.... >,>;
....Trev, can you be more specific? Is there a certain type of character you want to play as? A Mage or a Melee? A heavy damage dealer or a support role? Or would you rather have someone just pick a random job out of a hat and explain it's pros/cons?
With great power comes complete disregard for any and all responsibility.

Re: best job
I also play Dragoon and I love every minute of it. You can solo or join a party, which is awesome because I can play no matter if I can find a party or not. I used to play as WAR and I liked it, but far too often I was asked to be main tank AND puller, which I think is alittle unfair.
My wife plays white mage, and she enjoys it when we duo. She has sometimes been frustrated playing in parties, especially around the dunes, as most parties don't really have the whole idea of tanking and provoking down right. There is alot of stress as WHM I think because everyone depends on you. Of course its satisfying too, being able to help people!Main Jobs: DRG75 PLD56

Re: best job
It's hard to define a best job, everyone has different ideas as to which one it is. And then you have people like me that can't make up their mind. I would suggest giving them all a try to figure out what you like best.

Re: best job
Well, Dragoon, Paladin, and Ranger, you can't start as. You have to do quests at level 30 to be able to switch to those jobs.
Just try any job that interests you. The job you pick when you're creating your character has no effect on anything else you do later on. The only thing you lose leveling multiple jobs is a little time. If you pick one and don't try the others, you may accidentally miss out on the job that ends up being your favorite.Ellipses on Fenrir

so i have no idea
I started RDM, and consider this my main job. I like it a whole lot. I leveled BLM as a subjob and beyond and had a lot of fun blowing things up. Then I leveled WHM as a subjob for RDM, and found myself getting to irritated with tanks to do it for long periods of time. Then I leveled MNK to 18 for a subjob to WAR and that was fun. Then leveled WAR to 18 as a subjob to DRK, this was my first taste of tanking. Not really my thing but being invited as DD or backup tank was the same thing as MNK anyway so sometimes I had fun. Now I'm finishing DRK to 37 as a subjob to RDM and like doing this, except for being on pulling duty if there isn't a THF or RNG in the party. I might take this to 60 for another AF set.
You're probably going to need several jobs leveled for subjobs to others anyway so there's no real need to pick one to stick with right away.

when tanking, haha. Standing face to face with the mob, and daring it to attack
is fun to me.
So my favorite jobs so far have been Pld, Ninja, and to a lesser extent Warrior.
NOTE: I tend to shy away from the straight up mage jobs because of my low mp. Galka
can do it, but I am not prepared to work that hard

Re: best job
Do you like hitting things with a weapon?
Do you like getting smacked around?
Do you like making things blow up?
Do you like healing people?
Do you like doing things that are really important, but no one will ever give you much credit for?
Do you like playing alone?
Consider those questions. They pertain to your role within a party. All the jobs in the game fit into one of those roles.
Next consider other games you've played and how you set up those parties.To any BLMs complaining about TP Burn parties; What goes around, comes around. Shut up.

Re: best job
====Warning Long verison==== (Scroll down for quick verison)
Let me start by saying you, and only you will ever be able to figure out what job is best for you. Everyone who plays MMORPGs sooner or later because to get a personal trademark class. And this class or job-type is usually what they end up playing in all games, or something simular. My boyfriend is always a tanker class, in WoW he was a Warrior, here he's a Paladin, on Maple Story he was a warrior-type class I don't remember the name, and in the short time he played Ragnarok Online he was aiming for Knight. I, on the other hand, am always his healer, (by choice ^^), WoW Priest, RO Priestess, Maple Cleric, and here as you've probably guessed, I'm a White Mage.
What you have to ask yourself isn't "What's the best job" or "What do others want me to be". The right question(s) are, "What seems fun to me", "What do I want to do to help", "What seems cool/right/important to me".
Some people decide their class by trial and error, look through all the classes and pick 2-4 that interest you the most. Get all of them to level 10 or 20 and see which you like the most. Going to 10 will only show you the beginning of the class, and going to 15 or 20 will show you the party aspect. This will be a lot more work compared to if you knew which job you wanted right away because you'd have to go through the same thing 2-4 times and still endup unhappy with the jobs you've tried.
Some people decide their class because they saw someone doing a horrible job and they want to do better. And the flip side is they saw someoen doing a great job and wanted to do the same.
Some people decide their class to best work with a friend or loved one.
I choose healers because I'm always with my boyfriend and I don't trust anyone else with his life.
====Short Verison====
I choose white mage, because I want to make sure my boyfriend's life is in good hands. And I love being the person that keeps everyone alive. (Also I like angels and healers are angels in a lot of people's eyes ^^)
====Suggestions====
-If you want to dps or tank, try Warrior first.
-If you want to do dps without tanking, try Monk first.
-If you want to try magic damage try Black Mage first.
-If you want to heal try White Mage first.
-If you want to try a combo of the magic both healing and damage, try Red Mage (though I'm not too sure how much damage they usually do)
-If you want to do bursts of damage without the fear of hate, try Thief (but be warned from what I've seen Thief is pretty weak until 15 and up)
====Other Notes====
Melee classes rarely sit, to save TP so they can use their special attacks. If you like doing special moves you main want to focus on a melee class.
Casters always sit after a fight, rarely Melee, and because TP dies as you heal, you rarely, if ever, get to use a special. So you may want to keep that in mind. ^^
All of this is assuming you have no Advanced jobs available to you, so I'm only looking at the first inital six(6) jobs available from the start.
Sorry that was so long, I kinda just kept getting new thoughts that I thought would be useful. Tried my best to make this as neat and easy to read as possible.
Hope this helps, and good luck with your choice and have fun!
