When doing Besieged as a SMN, I usually got a lot more EXP just keeping Carbuncle out and on a mob, occasionally using Poison Nails to make a skillchain to do some DoT or possibly a skillchain with someone else rather than pulling out an avatar like Leviathan, doing Spinning Dive, then releasing. Carbuncle also let me run around and raise people while having him on a monster as well. So it can't be solely based on damage. Maybe the total number of attacks made on a monster coupled along with the amount of curative/offensive spells made?

I wonder how much EXP I would get it I went in as a 63 BLM/5 MNK and spammed Boost the whole fight. Would prove/disprove the ability thesis.

If you want to try it, go ahead. Probably the only way we'll start to figure it out is if players run tests and post them. Try not to get hit or anything else that will taint the test.

I've also never heard of anyone getting 0 xp (without d/cing), so there might be a baseline xp you get just for being there.

i just got done doing level 3 mammol ja besieged. tons of curing (3 times i went from 950 mp to 0 mp keeping that one general alive), got the max 500 IS points allotted in a level 3 besieged.

I run around attacking and provoking whatever I can. I once participated back when my NIN was 57, all I did was use provoke every 30 seconds. Bam, full 700XP and IS. I think its all about the amount of hate you can generate.

if you can hit the mob, or cure players an not die, you should 99.9% of the time get full exp. i think the only times i dont get full exp is when i die fighting the undead hordes. other then that i get the full 700 everytime i go to Besieged.

Yes, you do. I don't know what impact losing has on it, though. It may reduce the XPs, it may not.

I participated in my first Besieged recently with a couple of friends. We lost Besieged and one friend (who happened to have recently KO'd, HP'd, and returned to the fray) got 71 XP. I got 0 XP and 0 IS either because I had just returned from HP-ing or because I wasn't officially a mercenary yet.
