It's because of all of the Oztroja junk that I try to refrain from using thief tools as much as possible. I may be a thief, but I feel like I've worked more for a 'prize' if I actually try to get the key. Except when I was getting my AF, since I still had to run around for 4+ hours for coffers because of people searching for Astral Rings and Physical Earrings and stuff.

People calling GMs over "stolen" coffers though, that's ridiculous.

I don't remember this either. Did they change this in a recent patch or something?

Hmm... Well, maybe I just never noticed.

I think the OP didn't just open the coffer but actually took it with him (preventing it from spawning ever again) which is why the other player /shout "steal steal!"

Is either that or the player that made the shout was uber-mega-gundam-retarded.

(OP don't worry about it, the coffer is for whoever opens it first, just because they saw it first doesn't mean they can claim it )

If it works this way (I've never tried to open a coffer while weakened) it must be something related to lockpicking. /shrug

Still... calling a GM over somebody getting to a coffer before you is a waste of everybody's time.
Yeah, especially the GM's time. They have other things to do, like feeding noobs to Jormungand.

And don't forget all the paperwork (bottles of Jack Daniels) they have to do, being a GM is hard work indeed.

Re: Has this ever happined to you?

When I went to get my AF in the Eldieme Necropolis, I went in through the entrane near Beaucedine Glacier. Sure, there's only one (or two, can't remember) spawn point there, but no one ever goes that way and I got the coffer right away when I went there. It was a bit of extra running around, but it was worth it.

I hate when people would get all pissy about the RSE. The chests for that quest spawn faster than any other chest in the game. People seriously don't have any patience for anything.

I've thankfully never had to fight over coffers with anyone else, but then again, I've only ever done three sets of AF, so maybe as time goes by I'll start to have to. But I generally camp out a small area where a few coffers pop and log back in and out occasionally to see if one has appeared (especially in places like Garlaige and Eldieme). So far it has worked out pretty well.

I have had to fight over chests when doing RSE before. I had a guy sitting on a chest once, but he didn't have a key, and he was mad at me for taking it (regardless of the fact that it would instantly respawn). I've also had people let me get the last chest I needed so that I would be gone (and I've done the same for others) even though I might not have been the first one to it.

Personally I prefer to be as courteous as possible with coffer hunting, because you never know when you're going to encounter this person again, and what's the point of looking like a greedy ass, when a little bit of patience could very well make you a new friend?
Bear in mind, this was in a totally different coffer hunting environment than we have today. Pretty much everyone already has their AF these days, getting keys is a breeze, and so is finding coffers. Getting the Garlaige Citadel Coffer today is as easy as finding 3 level 75s to go in there with you while you sneak around and open doors systematically.

When it happened to me, there were no less than 5-6 people hunting for coffers in Garlaige at all times, and it could literally take hours to even spot a coffer because they were being opened constantly.

In this case, it happened on my third visit to Garlaige to try and find the coffer (yes, three failed attempts to get the coffer, over 3-4 hours each).

When I got my PLD AF (which I practically soloed it all except for the NM to get the AF body that I duoed with a WHM friend of mine) I didn't have any help, I got behind door # 3 by waiting for someone to open the doors and then I just logged at zone there while they went and looked for it.

I don't remember exactly but it took me a day or two to get that coffer, there were times when I'd have to wait for a really long time just to see the coffer being opened right before I got to it, but that's the way it works, and I really didn't mind my vacation day at Garlaige Citadel.

All these was a few months ago, so at least in my server the coffer hunt is still the coffer hunt no matter how you look at it.

Re: Has this ever happined to you?

I was logging in and out of garliage behind door #2 for about 3 days for my AF.

I don't know, with NMs and chests and even regular mobs, it's pretty much fair game for all. Sure, it sucks to get burned, but it happens. I wouldn't put anyone on my blacklist for it.

I was lvling nin last week and pulling with the blind ninjitsu. I was clearly casting on a mob directly infront of me, and then the puller from the other pt comes up and vokes it. I just said "Biotch" and let it go at that.

I don't know why it's taking so long for your Garlaige coffers. I've helped with that coffer about a dozen times in the last 3 months, and not once did we spend more than an hour and a half there with 4 players.

If you're solo that's a different story, since you can't get to the other spawn locations by yourself, but with a group of 4 knowing where to look, it takes less than 20 minutes to search Garlaige at all possible spawn locations from start to finish.

As far as the question as to why you cant open a chest while weakend i do believe that is a partial measure to keep thfs from being able to stay in areas and just spend time opening coffers, but then i could be wrong.
