I've been playing FFXI for a little over 2 years, and my highest job is 62. I'm a slow leveler, I take my time, I'm by no means a power-gamer, and I abhor RMT. That being said, this is my situation:

I had to reinstall FFXI, but was unable to find my original game discs. I went out and picked up FFXI: The Vana'diel Collection. I installed FFXI, RoZ, CoP, ToAU, and was good to go. I still have the registration codes for POL, FFXI, RoZ, and CoP - all unused, because I just logged in with my existing POL ID.

I was considering selling these codes because otherwise they'll go to waste. I figure perhaps somewhere out there, there is someone who already plays the game and has the discs and wants to create a new account for a spouse, friend, whomever but would prefer not to have to pay for a whole new copy of the game if they can avoid it.

Now, I don't ever turn away cash, but being that I'm a very casual gamer and don't have a lot of time to craft (I want to spend what little time I can spare actually PLAYING), I'd value gil much more in this situation.

I was considering selling all the registration codes in bulk for around 1,000,000 Bismarck gil. This would also include the download code so that someone could download the game from the FFXI site if they wanted to.


Would this be RMT? I don't intend to post on any boards putting the codes up for sale if it would be considered RMT. Please offer your opinions. Thank you all.

May I ask why you feel that they would sue me? Would I not be free to give/sell the registration codes as I see fit? I'm sure I could for cash. Is it the fact that I am considering exchanging the codes for gil that is the problem? You could sell an in-game item for gil, or even potentially a world pass if you so desired.

These codes will go to waste otherwise, and if SE decided to make a business decision I feel that they would be aware of the fact that I'd be creating an opportunity for them to take in another monthly subscription that may not otherwise exist.

Besides, if they're not suing those who blatantly buy/sell gil for cash, I don't think they would litigate me for trying to make an honest transaction.

Because you would be trading in-game currency for a real world item.

Even though what you are thinking would be harmless, the moment it involves the game's currency it can be interpreted either way.

Fair enough.

I don't think I have the motivation to arrange a real currency transaction, even via PayPal. I'll probably just sit on the codes, then.

You would most likely have a hard time selling registration codes reguardless. Buying them from an unknown person is a very risky proposition, as they could be used, fake, etc. I'm not saying that is the case here, but that is what I would be thinking as a consumer.

Your best bet is to do what I did when SE gave me free CoP reg codes at fan fest, give them away.

You could give them to someone that you know would enjoy the game, thus giving a purpose to those unused codes. You'd also have to let them borrow the CD's though. =P

I've tried getting my wife to plan using this exact plan. "I've already got everything you need to play. We could even marry in-game, hun!" No dice.

While it is RMT, some of the anti-RMT activists (me for example) wouldn't get mad at you.

The thing I personally have against RMT is that it's fully for their profit, and you've already got an account for fun. Selliong surplus is acceptable.

But SE could fuck you over.

Might want to tell friends to tell their friends, see if anybody needs a code, if you still plan on selling. Keep it between you and only a few others.

You could always use the codes and have a secondary character that you could use to dual box from time to time. Maybe not ideal, but it's something I've considered from time to time.

That or just give them away to a friend.

I'd call it RMT too, but only by definition. You're not monopolizing NMs, MPKing people, or cheating. You bought the game from a store and you're wanting to sell the game. Companies don't freak out when people go to gamestop and sell used PS2 games. I view it the same way.

Although, it's very unlikely that you'll even find a buyer. I mean, I didn't even know there was a Bismark server...

i need the codes badly T_T my friend has the cds i can get it from him but then to make a account i cant i know what your going to say why not buy it well from where i live the game is not here right now and the guy from the shop said maybe tomorrow if not next week + they told me that there not even sure its ever going to come T_T i really want to play this game if anyone has the codes unused like him please do pm them to me thank you alot im maybe asking alot but i really do want to play the game
