Hello, My Name is Kaithran...

And I am a compulsive checker.

If you have a bazaar, I will check you.

If you are LFG, I will check you.

If you are in my party, I will check you, sometimes multiple times.

Don't worry, I am not trying to be obnoxious. It's a habit I can't break. I don't even think before I hit the ctr+c. And when I see BLMs, I try very VERY hard not to check them if they have no bazaar or flag, but I'm not always able to control myself.

Has anyone else had this sort of "problem?" It'd be nice if I weren't alone here!

I dont check very much, mainly when its someone i know or LS members when i see them.

I don't check people at all. Period. (unless the said person is a friend I've known for awhile)

I check people all the time. I really don't understand what the big deal is with /check. I don't care when people /check me, I have the filter on, so I never know.

I don't check much, unless I want to see what i'm "Up against" in a PT (looking at other melees to see how my gear compares to theirs), you have a bazaar, or are wearing something I don't recognize. Typically, I try not to check more than once, unless I think someone is swapping some EQ..

Still, I hold to what I say about anyone who doesn't like being checked being an idiot and probably a poser.

I wish I didn't check so much, because I'm worried ill piss people off. The thing is, I like seeing what the general population considers acceptable in terms of gear. If there is a bazaar up or the person with flag has a bazaar, i always check that so im not being rude.

I';ve never had anyone upset with me over it. It's just something I do.

Being brandnew to the game, as I'm running around lost as hell, I check when I see a cool weapon or a cool armor look, which is alot now, because well, they are all new and cool to me.

I'm with you here. Anyone who refuses to use the filter just so they can have the justification of getting mad when someone checks them deserves all the frustration they get.

I did notice that people check me alot, and i'm just running around in level 8 store bought armor. *shrug* oh well. Let them check.

I had one guy check me, right after I checked him, which i though was funny, we had an "interesting" conversation, as he spoke no english, so i had to try to to say stuff through the translator.

We (my wife and me) were heading back to windy from east saru and she took a wrong turn, as I'm sitting there at the gate waiting on her, I starting healing people who were hurt. Now, I 'm not up and up on how to tell someones level by there gear, but my cure is healing for 23 or so, so I ended up healing a DRK from about 50% heal to full 23 at a time (I found out later he was level 23 ), he asked why no subjob, and I explained, then he gave me 5k gil and told me I was doing very well for only playing 2 days (at the time)..

Made me feel good. :D

You'll come to find this is pretty common. You check someone, they check you back.

And yeah, people check lowbies a lot too, mostly because they assume they're mules, or newbies. You'll come to find there's two very distinct crowds, those who love newbs and welcome them in open arms, and those who have been scarred by fateful times in the Dunes and burned by the dreaded noobs, who keep away from anyone under lv40.

I haven't used shout yet at all, and the only people i've talked to in game, was a nice higher lvl WHM who offered to keep us "protected" because i wasn't level 7 yet (I still don't have protect, but I found a scroll of protectra off one of those mean ass bird guy things).

One also dropped my scroll of stealth last night, which i thought odd to get a level 20 scroll of a create that checks EP to a lvl 8. :D

lol, a mithra checked me the other day. I checked back. then she checked back. We went back and forth many times and ended up laughing pretty hard. Didn't know checking constantly could turn into an icebreaker.

And yet I have encountered white mages in Qufim and the Jungles who don't have Sneak.

You're doing just fine. Better than just fine, really. Personally I spent my first week or two just blundering around Ronfaure with no real idea of what I was doing, or what I should be doing.
