Re: In game/ real life couples?

Aww crap. I need to take a screenshot of my out of game bf and I. We are actually separated right now, but are still best friends. It's not weird or anything either. I got him addicted to ffxi.

I will get some screenshots later!

In my opinion having two "relationships" even though it's an online game is quite sad...I would consider it to be cheating (shouldn't it be called off since both of you started dating?) If the person is friends with both of you he would understand, no?>.> but then again people seem to be doing that a lot.

In-game we do stuff together about once a week or so. Usually farming, various quests, missions, stuff like that. Rarely XP together.

In-game, her character is engage to the character of a RL friend of ours, and mine is a lonely bachelor! Woe is me, emo emo angst.

First picture is my girlfriend (Elisen) on her main, myself in the middle, and our friend "Chocoboy" on the right. Second and third characters are Pikkles and Iscream, mine and my girlfriend's mules respectively.

Re: In game/ real life couples?

The way to describe it, I guess, is this. My girlfriend and I are in a relationship. We do all the things people in a relationship do. Her character is in a relationship. Presumably, her character does all those things a normal person does in a relationship.

The difference is, its a purely role-play thing, and anything that would be considered "cheating" is just assumed to happen between the characters. That is, my it can be assumed that my GF's character kisses her in-game fiance (if you want the role-play aspect), though my girlfriend doesn't actually particpate in any cyber-sex or anything like that.

There's nothing sad about it, really. Its not a "Real" relationship to begin with. It is something they do 1.) for the benifit of those in our linkshell that role-play, and 2.) because it amuses them to get married in-game. About the only thing they do together in-game is ocassionally farm together.

I'll be the first to admit that I want to get married in-game, too, and I have an idea who I would like to get married to. I don't give a rats ass about a "Relationship" with this person. All I care about is having one more thing in the game that I've done. This particular thing just requires a wedding ceremony.

My idea of "flirting" in game is /wave <t>, /smile <t>, and then standing and healing next to the Red Mage my character has a "crush" on. That about sums up what my girlfriend considers "flirting" in game, too. Anything beyond that doesn't really happen.

Consequently, my girlfriend and I both agree that cybersex, etc., is cheating, but as we're deeply comitted to eachother it isn't really an issue that comes up, since neither of us care to particpate in such activites with other people.

Anyhow. I'm rambling now, and I doubt anyone cares for my relationship status in detail. But I hope that clarifies what I meant by her second "relationship" as it were. ^^

Re: In game/ real life couples?

I never realized there were a number of people who were playing with their gf/bf/so/etc. in the game.

My husband and I both play but he's further along in the game than I am.

As for the game marriage thing, I really don't know if I want to go along that path as well (although it looks really neat). Perhaps some more time will change that perception.

            Me and my bf want to get married in game since we're not old enough or mature enough to actually do something like that for real, yet. Just can't get a marriage date ;.;

I want a wedding dress that actually looks like a wedding dress!! Hmm.. there's a thought *puts on her todo list*

Re: In game/ real life couples?

But wouldn't you think that the life ingame and the life outside of it will eventually catch on to eachother? Sure it could be roleplaying now, but what if after you spent time with ur ingame gf/bf you end up have feelings for her/him? I'm not saying that you and her can't keep those two things seperate, but there's always a possibility.

My father has been married with my mom for over 18years; when he started to play this game he became distant from the family and closer to a character in the game. Came to find out that he was role playing with her. The fights between my parents got so bad that they almost got divorced and if it wasn't something hitting my father's head to put some sense into him he would've moved to UK where his so called "ingame girlfriend" was.

If you could seperate those two I give kudos to you. Personally I wouldn't be able to.

Honestly, I'm surprised there aren't more couples that play FFXI together.

That may be because my LS has a lot of families. There are 4 married couples, 2 sets of siblings, and 2 couples who are dating but have been together for quite a while. So it's a very family oriented group.

But I've run into a number of people who have mentioned their spouse or significant other play as well, so from where I'm sitting, there seems to be a lot of couples that play together.
