just to add extra to what i've said of those 4 levels i gained 12-14 was actually done solo in konchatt (with my flag up). I had three parties from 12-16 and the first two of those took over two hours, had three people disband/"DC", successfully killed two mobs and had me die 4 times >.< (considering i was eating long term food thats a whole lot) The third while looking promising had a PL, if i'd of gone with what i wanted to do and left, i'd still be soloing in Konchatt at 14.


Honestly i'm not asking a lot, i'm not a demanding fellow. But i don't want to be power levelled and i would like to be going up in exp rather than down.
it's not the party performance i'm stressing about though... I just actually would like to kill something rather than standing around waiting for people to get back from the toilet or walking the dog or whatever they're doing. and everytime i find a party that isn't like that the PL shows up. 1k an hour would make me happy. but in two parties i was looking at -700 an hour. and that is a waste of my time.

I try my best i bring my all and then people waste my time. and by waste my time i don't mean underperform, i mean seriously just invite me there and then get us killed a couple of times than disband.


A static is pretty much out unfortunately, i'm just not on regularly enough. And playing EU times can mean there are less people seeking, and it's common to /sea 13-16 inv and find no search comments and only four people seeking. But i guess i can only try... i anticipate a lot of "lolz u pty in DUoonz 10-20" responses.

Your right though i do need to calm down, I just needed to vent a little, so thought i'd try and get some advice along with it. like i say though it's been a bad week, until the PL stepped in (which i hate myself for staying through) my pty experience was nothing but wasted time, wasted gil and wasted experience.

If you want 1k+ an hour, then solo. I know it's "slower" and "lonely" but it's really better in the long run instead of stressing out and dying in Valkurm.

Also, what food were you eating? Meat Jerky is all you need at that level, as anything else is just wasted benefit.

Sounds about typical. I guess that's another thing, the food, I'd never bring 3-hour food to the Dunes unless it was a static or mostly-LS party or something. I may not be doing my 100% top golly best with half-hour food, but death happens there, a lot. I figure it's better for me to have two or three stacks of cheapish half-hour food in case I die than a few three-hour foods.

For me it tends to go in the pattern of 2-3 crappy parties followed by one good one that makes up for it.

okay given that, i've done my venting let me try and get some further constructive crticism.

How do you avoid the PL? Seriously, any halfway decent party at those levels and someone will bring in a PL... do you disband and go back to soloing bordom/n00bie hell? giving up your one shot at a semi decent party for the night? do you suck it up and go against your sense of fun (and even to a degree morality)? Do you kick up a stink, get into an argument, than leave/get booted from the party?

You either accept that there is a PL for your party, or you leave the party, stating that you prefer parties without PLs. You might be ridiculed for it a little, but I'd just shrug it off. If you opt to leave PL parties, I'd suggest saying that you won't join PL parties in your search comment.

Me? I've never asked for a PL, and will never PL someone else. However, if I join a party, and there is a PL, I won't leave because of it. I might leave if they're trying to kill stuff way beyond their level... stuff that takes 4-5+ minutes to kill.

And yes, meat jerky for the win.

Well, if you go the make your own party route, you can always kick instead of disband. And explain to everyone you invite from the start that PLs aren't welcome. They'll probably still bitch and moan, but they won't have much to stand on.

Personally, I usually put up with it. I haven't been back to the Dunes for a while, so maybe it's gotten much, much worse. But the last handful of times I went through there, people swore up and down that you couldn't avoid PLs, they were everywhere, etc. etc. If that's true... they're not hanging out with me much. I really haven't had that many PLs in the Dunes.

Also, I figure it does more good for newbies if I stay in the party and try to point out things we couldn't have gotten away with without the PL than if I just abandon them.

I figure there are two kinds of PLs - good ones and the kind that spam Cure II on the tank and end up tanking themselves the entire fight.

Bad PL! Nobody learns anything.

The good kind will hang around and let the party do its job and act as a safety net. WHM not able to keep up? Toss in a cure. Get petrified because you just HAD to go fight lizards at level 10? Stona.

I'll just sit around and watch for the healers to do their thing. If they don't heal, then I won't. If the tank doesn't attempt to get hate back from me, then I'll stop pulling hate - whm reflex.

Similarly don't try to fight things that you really can't handle - you won't exp chain, you'll cap out at 200 exp (lol gud exp lol.... moron), and you'll have to rest for 5 minutes between fights.

I'll make things easier; I won't do them for you.

1.) Lock any sharp/blunt objects that can be lifted and thrown at the monitor/TV away in a safe/closet.

2.) Make sure keyboard and mouse/controller are positioned such that hurling them at the monitor/TV proves impossible/difficult.

3.) Make sure any children that can potentially be scarred by the words you will scream in the next 2-3 hours are safely out of ear shot.

4.) Alert LS members that if anyone is appalled by foul language of any sort, they should remove their perl for the next 2-3 hours.

5.) Make a sandwich, grab a 6-pack, and brace yourself.

But my point is that if you get enough people willing to try new things (quite a feat), you can get some really amazing exp.

I'm sorry, this doesn't fit the status quo

Just to share an experience:

I was taking my 17 WAR (subbed MNK for Boost, extra VIT, etc.) through the dunes, and we picked up a second WAR to share the tanking burden. Well, this WAR was sub NIN at level 16.

Now, in all seriousness; I know it’s the dunes; I don’t care what other people sub; what gear they have, but this guy starts giving me hell for my choice of subjob. Nonetheless after a bit of discussion, this guy ends up leaving the party over this subjob situation. Oh well :/

All you gotta do is go into it without any expectations.

I know you guys aren't being entirely serious, but honestly, going into it with the mindset that it's going to suck, and reduce you to having a coniption fit IRL, isn't any way to approach anything in this game.

I have to wonder about these people who get so angry that they throw things, or yell, or get into a shouting match with other players. It's not worth it. Especially in your teen levels. The power is in your hands to make the situation better. You don't have to party with idiots. You don't have to stay in bad parties.

Gear yourself well and do your job, and you'll be fine. Don't worry so much about everyone else around you.

We were somewhere around Konschtat, on the edge of the desert, when the Hi-Ether began to take hold. I remember saying something like:
