  • I have used the "Search" function for the forums, and did not find my answer.

    1. How do you gain "Rank Points"?
1a. I know where to look for the bar that shows how many I would have. I have done several of the delivery quests for Bastok (I'm on Carbuncle), but I have not seen that bar move.

    2. Is "Fame" linked in any way to "Rank Points"?

Thank you in advance for helping, I'm "Newish" to the game. I have not had an easy time finding anyone to talk to, and getting a group seems out of the question at the moment. (8 Hume WAR, I've put invite up, no tells. C'est la vie.)

Fame is not linked to rank points, but they are similar. When you do quests, you gain fame, which helps determine what other quests you can get.

Rank points are like fame for missions. You get rank points by doing missions or by trading crystals to a gate guard. You need to have enough rank points to get new missions.

Thank you for trying the search function before asking.

You gain Rank Points by 1) doing missions, or 2) donating crystals/items/equipment to the gate guards. Your Rank meter has to be full or near-full to recieve the next rank up mission from your home nation.

      Quests don't affect rank.

Quests affect Fame! Fame is tied to a number of things - prices offered to you by NPCs in shops and the availability of other quests (with greater rewards), mainly.

Rank and Fame are unrelated. You can get Rank 10 with fame 1, and fame 10 with Rank 1.

Missions and Quests are also unrelated.

Are you guys sure about Rank and fame's relation? I'm not positive, but I think If you get rank 10 in bastok, your fame rises accordingly in bastok. I have no proof of this; merely basing off of the fact that I did very few bastok quests, but am a rank 6 bastoker with rather high fame.

I would understand a rank 10 bastoker having 1 sandy fame though. If he'd done no sandy quests.

I don't know if attaining Rank 10 gives you some sudden Fame boost, but I kind of doubt it.

Ok, thank you for the information so far, however much like a wayward child I still have a few more questions. (Always with the knowledge seeking...)

By "missions" do you mean the missions like the supply delivery mission for the Iron Musketeers? Or, are is there some deeper, more sinister meaning to mission I am as yet unaware of?

Supply deliveries are for outpost warping. Whichever outpost you take those supplies to, you can later use a specific npc in your home country to warp directly to those op's or run to that op and warp back to your home country.
Missions are the tasks given to you by one of the other people guarding the gate. After doing a few of these (usually there are 3 different ones per rank) you receive the next rank and are given a few gil. This is also how you unlock further storylines for you country.
You mentioned Iron Musketeers, so I'm guessing you're from Bastok. If you go to the gate in Bastok Markets, the galka that gives you the supply quests and signet is on the left. The guy who gives you missions is on the right side of the gate. Talk to him and he'll offer missions. I believe to actually do the last mission that increases your rank, you have to have the blue bar all the way full. Just go buy a couple stacks of earth crystals (or whatever happens to be cheapest that day) and trade them to the galka. That'll boost your rank points all the way up.

Alas, I can only donate crystals upon reaching rank 2. However, I now have a mission! So I can proceed from here for now. Thank you all for your help!

Missions for rank are very specific. You receive and activate them by talking to specific guards near the gates of your home city. These missions increase either your current Rank Points (indicated by the Rank bar in your Status > Profile) or raise you to the next available Rank.

Increased Rank in your city of allegiance has some nice perks:

                      (1) You can purchase items with Conquest points at that rank or below. The higher your rank, the larger the selection of items you can purchase.

                      (2) When your city is not ranked last, you can purchase some conquest gear from OTHER cities using your current conquest points by talking to the guards in the other city, or to any signet guard in Jeuno.

                      (3) For each every level of rank you possess, your Signet effect lasts one additional hour (plus the standard of 1-3 hours based on your current city's conquest standing). So if you're a Rank 5 Bastokan and Bastok is currently 2nd in Conquest, your Signet will last 7 (5 + 2) hours.

                      (4) Achieving Rank 5 in any city gives you access to the airships of Jeuno for free without having to pay the 500,000 gil price tag.

                      (5) Upon reaching rank 10 you receive a city Flag furniture item which you can use to decorate your mog house. If it is the dominant furniture in your house, it grants Moghancement: Conquest, which both increases the Conquest points you earn as a citizen of that city, and increases the amount of influence that your city gains when you earn conquest points in any region.

I think I may soon be stuck on some of these missions. I looked up some of them and they seem to require a strong group to finish.

I've not had a grand time getting any group invites, level 8 WAR does not seem to bring much to groups at the moment. Oh well, I shall press on!

                        Maybe I'll get lucky!

most people will not group/party until 10-11. get to 11 and then throw your seek flag up in valkurm dunes.
