Considering the OP didn't seem to know that his whm couldn't raise there's I suspect he has no jobs higher than Valkurm level, in which case there isn't really any good reason not to HP there.

Wow, so much criticism for the OP with so little sympathy. Other than the OP, am I the only tank here who's felt like a disposable pt member?

I'm not saying the OP couldn't have acted with more maturity. But consider the celebratory attitude of the puller and the WHM. Perhaps the OP wouldn't have been all "get me a raise" if they hadn't been high fiving one another next to his carcass.

Note: I could understand the pt being upbeat in spite of death(s) under different circumstances. For instance, if a mob spawned on top of them unexpectedly mid battle. Or if the main healer d/c'ed during a battle and didn't get back for several minutes. But the situation described by the OP isn't an emergency situation.

Well, the problem (as has been pointed out) is that we're not getting the whole story. We've only got this little snippet that kind of makes the OP look like as much of an ass as the person he's complaining about. For all we know, the party was just being upbeat after a difficult kill, at least with those "us ftw" comments.

It does suck when a party treats any member as more disposable than the others. It is lame that people expect tanks to take every death with grace and aplomb.

But just from what's in the bit of log we see, it looks like the OP went overboard. He says he left out the part where the puller had been a jerk for quite a while. But if you're telling this kind of story, ostensibly to get people on your side, and leave that out, who knows what else you've left out? Of course there's going to be skepticism.

And as a MNK, the OP could have always bowed out of solo tanking, especially if he didn't have tanking gear or food. (Not that there's a lot of variance at that level.)

We don't doubt that the puller and WHM acted less than commendably in this situation. All we are saying is a little more tact probably would have been better, and a tad bit more of the chat log.

The WHM and puller could have been celebrating a tough kill, not the OP's death.

Don't pull IT's. How do we know the puller isn't level 13 and gob didn't check as VT to him?

There are more circumstances surrounding the incident. All I see is two parties (not in the literal ffxi sense) calling each other names.

Now... this IS Valkurm we're talking about. You show me someone who plays their job perfectly in valkurm and I'll show you a <lie>.

Valkurm's something you only get through with enjoyment if you're levelling in a static of LS-mates. Nobody has any kind of clue what they're doing, it's all so much fumbling around in the dark.

Yeah, I try and avoid it too. Sometimes though I take a party invite because the folks are really friendly and/or insistent. Well, less with the second part - they can insist all they want, but I'm not going to fall over myself to get to their party.

Sometimes I get tired of soloing and just party out of boredom. Anyway, I'm probably not perfect, but I do my absolute best.

There's nothing at all wrong with not knowing what you're doing - you just picked up this job like two hours ago or something! "Instant Expert - just add sand!"



Quality of the player behind the toon will always show through. Someone who takes it seriously and understands the basic premise will do much better than someone who understands nothing about the game.
