"I have two jobs at 75 so I know more about anything than you."

At this point I left LS to avoid smacking this person's teeth in. I dont care how many jobs at 75 you have. I have one. I also know 60+s that know a hell of a lot more about anything than someone with 4 lvl 75 jobs.

Do not attempt to pull rank on me with this argument. You will regret it.

Other pet peeve? People in general.

      QFT.

Having multiple 75s used to mean something. It doesn't amount to jack now.

I've come to realize that the best players are just dedicated to the one or handful of jobs they play, never really exceeding a 4th job to 75. I'm doing COR, RNG, BST and BLU and i'm done with the grind after that on both of my character. Busy enough with two characters anyway.

I know a person who grinds any job to 75 that will let her flail her joyeuse about. She's not really good at any of these jobs, but since three of them are refreshers, she gimps her way up the ladder and thinks she's accomplished something grand when she's 75 in another. She's just unfocused and, quite frankly, talentless. But she works out OK for the beancounters in her HNMLS, lol, just another warm body to them.

Pet Peeve #1 : People who give job advice from an endgame standpoint.
I agree. Recently, I saw this where a newbie was asking what race is better for rdm, and the guy said Hume because they can have a perfect hp/mp ratio for convert. I'm lvl 75, and I don't have near it. He said, "Well, I have mp fully merritted and with a couple zenith pieces, it's really no problem."

So, this guy was saying it doesn't matter to a lvl 1 person because after you get lvl 75 and spend a year+ meritting and in an HNMLS you can have a good ratio for convert.

I have to agree with the giving newbies advice from an endgame perspective. I mean, I'm all for letting people know what they are in for in the long run, but telling them about how you can sub NIN and DRK to RDM after 74 isn't going to help them from 1-74. It's just going to mean that I end up partying with a RDM/NIN in the Jungles.

A great example is a thread at another forum that I saw by a sort of well respected member of the FFXI community. It was about what WHMs should wear. Well, this person came in and talked about the gear you should have available. This ran the gamut from AF to Relic, with full Noble's, Zenith, Blessed, and assorted other ridiculously hard to obtain endgame items. I lost any and all respect I once had for that poster after reading about how everyone should just assume that they'll have a Zenith Crown to macro in at level 75. Like, no problem, right?

There is a way to give advice about a job without making it all about you and how awesome you are at endgame.

Agreed. I mean, yeah, it IS a game. But the whole point is to play well, right?

And to have fun, of course. But most people have fun when they are playing well.

                • Re: What's your pet peeve in FFXI?

I have a brand new pet peeve.

                  Pathological-[CENSORED]-liars.

I THOUGHT I had made a fascanating, amazing, if a little jaded new friend recently ingame. He seemd to have been playing for awhile and acted like he knew his stuff. I default assume people are intelligent/honest, which I think is my downfall.

So anyway, I went up to him today to ask him if Maat gets food effects I have on when I zone into his BCNM.

(by the way, he also claims to have had WHM to 75)

So anyway, he doesn't answer my question, but fires back at me what's my club skill. It's in the 180's and I say so, don't see what this has to do with Maat as I plan to use an earth staff.

So he goes on to say how I need capped club skill, or at the very minimum I need 241 to go against Maat.

I say for one, I'm not meleeing, and for two, WHM club caps at 232 for level 70.
(Which I was wrong, according to somepage, it's 233)

So he tells me I got bullshitted to.

So I ask again, does food effect carry into the BCNM?

So he starts naming off all the gear I 'need' versus Maat, blessed briault topping the list. He seems to think I need the mind, or something.

I say I was planning on wearing my holy breastplate, or go buy a divine b. for it if I was going to buy a new bodypiece.

So then he asks me do I have an oppo oppo necklace. I say no. He says I need to get one of them, three sleep potions, and an icharus wing.

I say your way sounds very expensive and pointless, what exactly are you saying?

He says that self-skillchaining and them MB'ing holy is the only way WHM can defeat maat.

I reply that I'm not planning on meleeing him (again)...

So he asks what the hell do I plan (insert derrogatory remarks about Banish).

I say outlasting him, I'm going to stack DEF and spell interrupt resistance, and stoneskin tank him until he gives up.

So he laughs at me and tells me how pathetic I am.

                  ...right.

I shrug it off, and ask him how he recomends doing it.

So he re-iterates his 15-million-gil-list-of-equipment and shitloads of items way involving having uber supreme club skill.

So I say, well you said you had freinds who did this the same way you did. Mind if I interview them?

So he starts going off on how I need to get worldpasses to all these other servers if I want to do that.

                  Uh-huh...

Oh he also told me I would have my subjob for Maat. And the 10,000 reasons my way would fail against the mighty Asurun Fists.

Anyway, if anyone wants to answer it, my question about food still stands, but for right now I'm simply going to assume that he can get my food effects.

I'm thinking of testing with a poison potion, to try and prove it one way or the other. If he casts poisona on himself, I have my answer.

Yes, it was inspired by the Simpsons
If you know how to download and use VRS, I am interested in being tutored.

Same and when people decide to just start a job just because it becomes a little bit better. Take bard for instance. I quit 2 years back and I used to be a renowned bard in the Alexander server named Kujarin. Back then, Bards were scarce, and even when I come back, the numbers didn't even seem to be significantly different. I kept doing /sea and the numbers were about 40-60 everytime. Now after the update, I do a /sea and find HUNDREDS of bards. Do people really care about which job they are, or do they want to be the job with the most benefits? It kinda made me not even want to try because of how everyone feels like showing off their stuff or whatever. That gets on my nerves.

                      • Re: What's your pet peeve in FFXI?

I buff after zoning into the fight with Maat. I don't see why you shouldn't just do that.

                        Anyway, my big pet peeves:

                        1) Intentional D/C because you think the party isn't going right from the first battle. Just because you're Rank 10 and have gone to fight just about all the HNMs there is to be fought in this game doesn't automatically grant you the right to have only the best parties and 5 PLs.

                        2) Blind invites. At level 60+

                        3) No appreciation for a raise. "I just raised your ***** ass and saved you some exp and a trip from w/e town you hailed from." At least a simple (Thank you) >.>

                        4) Call for disband by leader of party immediately after obtaining a level.

                        5) Players who chat incessantly on LS or IM (w/ Windower or if they're playing on PS and have their PC/laptop up) and do not pay attention to their exp party or whatever they are doing at the time which places other players in that party at harm. "I don't know why you get upset about it, it's just a game you emo lol" aka cell phone drivers.

                        6) Other mages that overwrite my regen cast with another regen cast or a Cure III+ bomb. WTF?

                        Job specific peeves:

PLDs that don't take a knee. Sure, you need all the enmity you can get, but I'm willing to bet one Cure IV bomb on someone in the orange will generate more hate than your fantasically stunning 40dmg Vorpal Blade.

RNGs who should know better (Multiple merited jobs) still trying to melee on mobs even after patch. Ahaha ... >.>

CORs who need to take lessons from BRDs on how to use their rolls. No, as a RDM healing for mp, I do not want your Chaos Roll. FFs...

SAMs who complain about pulling and make a BRD pull. WTF, why are you sporting that Shigeto then and what's the use for Third Eye?

A MNK who insists on subbing THF to a party when there's already a DRK/THF in the party >.> Priorities, priorities...

A SMN knowing full well that he is main healer bringing out his avatars and spamming blood pacts like no tomorrow and I'm subbing BLM because the leader told me to and wanted me to be nuking. >.> Oh, best part is "Convert please. Convert please. Convert please." Lessee, did I miss any patch notes that made Convert a one-minute ability now?

There's more, but I'll spare the long rant.

Last pet peeve, the other RDMs that don't refresh DRKs. You know who you are. I've PT'd with many DRKs, both NA and JP who've sent /tells to me saying I was the bomb and the like because I put them into full rotation and not just "when I see a DRK hit 30 mp" bullshit other RDMs state. Most DRKs that I found out actually will use their mp if you refresh them. When they're down to 100 mp, they stop using their mp because they want to conserve it for stuns, not because they're lazy DRKs. You're the ****** ass lazy RDM for allowing any DRK to go under 50% mp pool before refreshing. /endrant

Maat is supposed to match your base stats when you enter, whether you are buffed with food or not. So basically, no, he wouldnt. Don't start out with a poison potion. Please.

Blessed briault IS a good idea if you're 70 for the huge MP bonus. Also, it has haste and MND which should help out your cure V. It has 41 defense, so technically it is better than the Holy breastplate. Not sure how much it goes for in your server, but it is a lovely piece of equipment and a wholly encourage you get it, if only for leveling.

You are right, WHM can just withstand Maat for 5 min and win. He's wrong. The only WHMs I know that go in guns blazing are Galkas. For Galkas, it's safer that way.

So basically, ignore him. Get a hi potion tank, pop a few off. Hi ethers or mulsum, whichever you prefer. I'd get au laits instead of regen (highest regen before you start, then stick to au laits cause trust me, you wont get Regen off in time). Cure IIs and IIIs to start, you'll be casting Vs in no time. Dont be shy about benedicting if you need to either. Defense food, Earth/Terra staff (I used earth, still beat him first go). Go in, tect and shell, one stoneskin and blink if you want, and have at him. If you can stick slow on him great, otherwise, just use it to call his attention.

                          Good luck ^^

For me, it would definately have to be elitists. They're all stat junkies who go around acting as if they got something huge lodged up their ass and they think think that they're better than everyone else on the server, when they're really one of the lowest forms of human life. They all live in their own little world where everything in-game must go according to their own little set of rules, and if it doesn't they'll throw a fit until they get their way. But the worst part about them is that their everywhere, and there's really nothing you can do about it. I mean you can kick an MPKer or RMTer out of your LS, no problem, but who's gonna boot someone just because they're an elitist? But I probably shouldn't be too upset about it, because most elitists probably don't even have a life outside of FFXI anyway, so i tall works out.

                                1. If I have declined your raise/teleport/pl request and you ask me again 5 minutes later to see if I've changed my mind (I don't mind doing these things, but if I'm busy I am busy)
                                2. Having other members of your party make the raise, teleport, pl request after I've turned you down. (Unless I know them persanlly I'm not more likely to drop what I'm doing for random stranger 1 than random stranger 2. Well maybe if they do a cool tauru dance :+D ).
                                3. People who are polite to me while I'm playing a high demand job, but rude or discourtious when playing an easy to find job.
                                4. Being invited to parties and after ariving being told the pt disbanded. Hapened just today going to the 2nd Yharor Jungle after op warping from Sandoria to Qufin Island then running to Jeuno, Airship to Kazam then chocobo to the xp location. Got the news pt was done when in the zone telling the inviter I'm in zone. Answer of I thought I explained the pt disbanded with no such mesage in my tell log. grrrrrr.
                                5. Party members disbanding without warning
                                6. Underleveled subjobs at the start of xp session (I understand if pt goes longer than expected having one under, but not starting that way)
                                7. Mages with melee subs in xp parties 25-40 (/em 's head implodes!)
                                8. /tells asking me to ditch my party and come to theirs when I'm a whitemage.
                                9. /tells asking me to real quick hop to the other side of the zone to raise your party when I'm in a pt. (If your right next to us and need your whm raised so he can raise the rest it's not so bad but try shouting [Raise [Can I have it] [Please] <pos> <t>) This makes it possible someone passing through can raise you without a group having to wait for their whm to heal for mana walk through a zone heal again then walk back. While I am normally inclined to help you have really put me on the spot asking me specifically since I hate leaving people in a bind, but my xp party shouldn't suffer just because I feel guilty leaving someone face up in the dirt.
                                10. [Too weak] <insert job, race, player> in /shout when I'm xping. Take the fight into /tell or /say.
That'll have to do for now hopefully everyone still has fun even when an irritant strikes.
