You hate having things to do in the game?
I'm not the biggest fan of abyssea but it's stuff to do and actually quite fun. I view it as a ton of extra dynamis areas.

Leveling up the old way was what I found fun. Sitting in Gusgen with 17 other people spaming pages isn't fun for me. :/

I preferred six man parties too, but the old FFXI was kind of shitty.

New leveling is pretty lame. I never did the GoV alliance thing, but leeching in abyssea is pretty much the only practical path from 30-99 that I know of these days. Those rare good exp parties in the old days, where you met 5 other competent people who weren't dicks and killed stuff together for a couple hours over light chat, those were good times. Especially way back in the day before most parties had "burn" in their names, and people worked with thieves and did SCs or even MBs, etc. Back in like 2005 when there were party dynamics basically. It's been a steady degradation ever since.

Now leveling has basically been abolished in favor of other content. The other content is pretty good, though. You should try it before you quit.

You know, I wouldn't mind winning bupkiss from the Bonanza so much had I not also logged in to the reminder that, by default, macro sets are not stored server-side.

So many settings needing to be redone. Probably better to actually go through it by scratch, anyway, rather than fuss and wait for my old computer to eventually get here, save my macros to the server from there, then download them onto my new computer.

Since I'm only able to get my security token codes over the phone anyway, though, it's probably for the best that I set FFXI in general aside for the time being. At the very least, until I can get the new software token on my phone. In April. So much for Trailblazing Ubulka.

In the meantime, I'll be on Stormbluff Isle server on GW2, which my new computer still struggles with in terms of framerate and (to an extent) latency.

That was one of the things I liked most about <insert program that requires an XML document for casting but I won't name because Yyg will get all butthurt even though I used to talk about it at length before he became a mod>, when I got a new piece of gear, I only had to update a couple of lines of code instead of a zillion macros.

Same could be said for a new computer, e-mail the document to yourself and bam, good to go.

This. I swear, SE must really fucking hate it when people try to give them money. I still have not managed to purchase the expansion because I'm waiting on a support ticket regarding the third account I now have with them. Or don't, apparently! I'm not even sure. Their FAQ says that I should already have this third account type with login information matching my second account type, but that login/pw doesn't work and their account retrieval system doesn't even acknowledge that the account exists. The people on Guildwork are telling me that in fact I do have to create a new account to order the expansion. I want to believe that SE is not so incompetent that their own official FAQ about how their system works is not patently wrong, but all evidence seems to indicate that it is.

Ok... so I got my email confirmation that my seekers download is ready. I followed the link and it sent me to an offshoot of the SE managment system and had a numerical list of instructions. Step 1 is "Download Seekers" ... and yet nowhere on the page is there a choice to begin the download. Am I missing something or is the download not actually ready yet?

So far as I can tell, SE hasn't made the download available yet, but amazon has and the installer has been posted to pirate bay.

Well, something to keep in mind if SE's servers are hammered and you can't get it reasonably through official channels. It's exactly what you've already paid for, after all, and it wouldn't work for you if you hadn't.

I threw up my hands at SE's matryoshka doll of a website and just got it off amazon. I'm annoyed that the file isn't on any of the clouds I already use, but at least their system fucking works.

The file size is 20.1 MB... this wifi sucks so much... and the download servers must be crowded as hell.

Macros can be saved serversize. When you're on the character selection screen, you hold CTR+ALT+Shift and press.... I think it's D. If done correctly it informs you that your macros for that character have been saved to POL and can be called upon in the future via CTR+ALT+Shift and Either V or R.

For instance... I play on 3 different PCs and rather than retyping all my macros on each one, I simply saved from one and Loaded onto the other 2. The only thing you have to remember is that changes you make to one will not port to the others automatically... you have to follow the same process for every change you make... no matter how small.
