Re: What's your pet peeve in FFXI?
I think I'm approaching that point too.
On the subject of Campaign being brought up here, I know it wasn't exactly most peoples' favorite things to do in the game. But it was one of those things I actively enjoyed. There was an appeal to going to a different area every hour to be grouped up with maybe 5-10 different individuals to defeat enemies and an NM-like leader that I don't think anywhere else in the game ever was able to really replicate. There were, of course, complaints that people didn't like to work together in these situations. But I was one of those people who enjoyed spotting somebody trying to play cooperatively and inviting them to group up. It's not something I really got anywhere else in the game.
But maybe I've outlived my welcome on Final Fantasy XI. Not going to say that the current game design has nothing to do with it. But for now, it's like people I used to like playing with have come and gone. I've joined up a Voidwatch group, which was just about the only thing I log on for anymore. But I don't really even enjoy playing with half of the group. Not like my old Limbus group back in the day, which I did with friends that made up of mostly Ballista fans. Or even Abyssea, which I did with the same linkshell. Now I log on and play with strangers.
Speaking of Ballista, Siren was one of the few servers that was doing it well after other servers forgot what it even was. I always used to say that, if Siren ever stopped doing Ballista, it would be time to quit the game. Like Campaign, a lot of people really actively disliked it. But when you got a good game, it was one of the most refreshing changes in dynamic from the rest of the game. Let's face it, most of the game doesn't really deviate from Hit-things-Heal-damage. And I didn't go to ever game expecting it to be a good one. But then, most people didn't always go to camp NMs expecting they were going to be the one who claims it. Of course, Ballista has been dead for a while now on Siren. So now I'm wondering what I'm still doing here.
I would like to take something away from the game before I quit it cold turkey though. Maybe take a nice screenshot to use as my desktop? Certainly doesn't seem appropriate to take a game you've played for more than half a decade and not take something with you when you leave.
Or maybe they'll be like, "SURPRISE! Real new expansion coming up! Explore the far east or far west!"
But yeah, for now, back to Skyrim...
