Re: What's your pet peeve in FFXI?
No. I just go on the Official Forums where Cidbahamut allegedly "trolls".
Maybe it's because I don't have other mage jobs leveled other than RDM and SCH so I can only compare those 2 from firsthand experience. But my opinion of the job diverges from other peoples in those parts of the woods. I don't think RDM is a weak job at all. It's fallen victim to the fact enemies are being designed to marginalize the effectiveness of debuffs (just about the only debuffs that really do anything to new NMs are Dia, Addle, and Dispel). But benefits from having exclusive proc spells which somewhat balanced out its shortcomings in Abyssea, where I felt debuffs were actually quite useful, but RDM lacked procs.
SCH has its own things to contribute, but I'm increasingly finding them to not be worth the hassle. It has to juggle spells and abilities to perform worse at what the specialist mages do. It has spells that modify enmity gain, but those are spells that would've fit the game better back when the level cap was still 75. They're rather useless now. And Regain and +7 attribute spells that can be cast on others.
