Leveling is in FF11 what Building towns is in SimCity (tm).

I never meant to say that you coudn't socialise in FF11, only that levelling is what drives ppl forward (until end-game anyways).
If you get a nice LS on top; that is great !

Edit for Details: I started playing the game on Odin in 2005 with the character name Quezacotl (spelled correctly according to FFVIII). Quez was a Male Elvaan with the red-colored "Zell" hairstyle. I chose MNK as a starting job and wound up taking it to about lvl42. I then moved to Bahamut to play with a few RL buddies of mine who I had learned played as well. When I moved I ditched the Elvaan... because the way he looked... moved... ran... attacked... it all just annoyed me too much to deal with. At the time... plastic surgeon wasn't around (that I knew of). Instead, I kept the same name... but re-rolled myself as a Tarutaru as you see him now. This time I chose WHM as my starting job and took it up to around lvl 40 before deciding that I wanted to try out a few other jobs... and proceeded to try out BLM, MNK, THF and RDM... all up to around lvl15 or so. In early 2007 I quit the game because everyone I knew had since quit and I really didn't have the motivation to play alone anymore. I stayed away for 2 years... until the itch finally came back and I re-installed the game in 2009. At the time, I had read about free server transfers due to the overpopulation on Bahamut and Odin and figured it was worth the change of scenery. A buddy of mine working as the manager of a local Gamestop told me that he would play again if I was going to come back. I asked him what server he was on... and so there I went... Kujata bound. This time I picked WHM back up and used it to unlock SMN... which has always been one of my favorite jobs in the series. I busted my ass with a few of the people I had met as well as my RL buddy. Eventually I got my SMN up to 75 and capped out all my merits. I had also decided that despite the stigma attached to SMN, I was never going to take another job up to the cap. Instead, I worked to get every viable job that SMN could use up to 37 for SJs. I worked on BLM, RDM, NIN and SCH and got them all to 37. From there I worked on getting every last bit of SMN-related gear I could... from Carby Mitts... to Nightmare Gloves... no matter how useless they ultimately were. In 2010 (I think)... Kujata merged with Valefor and I managed to convince one of my original FFXI buddies in RL to rejoin the game with me. It was at this point that I started posting here on the forum. I had always lurked... but never posted. After a short but sweet stint as the leader of my own recruitment shell... I wound up moving (about 2 months ago) to Lakshmi... following Murph... and joining up with Lago (Taskmage) on his home server. And so... here I am... but now without anyone I started playing with... and without Murph or TM for their various reasons. Thus... I am again contemplating a move to another server... to try and join up with people who's play times are more in line with my own.

There you have it. That's how it happened.

Having to wait on respawn timers when I want to try soloing something. It just takes all the wind out of my sails.

--> Ultra-Expensive Items for no real reason; On Asura, Blaze Spikes goes for 50-80k, Drain goes for 100k, Test answers (for Aspir) goes 40k, and 120k for the spell itself. Phalanx is 330k (!). I mean come on. It actually gives me a reason to do thequest, but Phallanx was like 40k back in 2008, and test answers where 5-13k. Now if what I farmed had increased in price proportionally, I'd be fine with that. But there was no real inflation/deflation since 2009 (healthy economy for the win).

There tends to be a very good reason why some items are ultra-expensive. Supply, demand, etc.

There is a couple (RL husband and wife) that are part-time members of my Linkshell. They always pop in when they need help with something (which is a seperate peeve for another time). I don't mind helping, but I also don't want to do all the research for your quest. If you need me to come clear out the high level gobs in Dangruf Wadi so you can do your THF AF, that's fine. I don't mind doing it. But I get there and realize that you don't have any form of Invis, then it makes me a little angry. Fine, take my Prism Powders. You need me to farm a coffer key in Monastic Cavern, fine. I can do that easy enough. You still don't have any form of Invis 6 hours later. When we left Dangruf Wadi, you said you were going right there. No, I haven't bought any more powders, but here have some ninja tools.
