Honestly I think RDM could stand for an overhaul, even putting aside their desire to hit things. Enfeebling in this game is as brainless as punching things with MNK. You apply every enfeeble you know will work and reapply as soon as they wear off. There's no trade-offs, no skill, no decision-making. I think the only reason people don't complain about it is that it doesn't make you feel like you're someone else's bitch, unlike buff cycles. But it's every bit as brainless and monotonous.
Same thing goes for BRD, really, but they've had it good throughout most of the game's history so whatever!
(which actually might have been the only alternative...it's evident to me that giving THF Bully means they don't actually want to update THF for whatever reason)
I think it's more along the lines of "If you're going to give us garbage, don't give us anything at all. At least then we won't feel insulted, just ignored."
The Manifesto stopped meaning a damn thing the moment they announced that they intend to do nothing about the invulnerability of certain debuffs.
If I'm thinking of the same statement you are, I was under the impression that this statement was limited in scope, and that they'd do more to control their raging hate-on against Enfeebles in the grand majority of cases in the future.
This update basically touches on . . . well, all of RDM's bases except for Enfeebling. I'm willing to temporarily forgive the lack of Enfeebling love simply for the sake of the Jack boosts . . . but only on the assumption that all the Enfeebling love will come the update thereafter. If it doesn't, I will be *quite* disappoint.

However much I am actually smart, I got that way by confronting how stupid I am.
It's just kind of frustrating to see the job meandering around and then get handed an update that focuses on something that in practical terms will do nothing for the job me other than slightly increase my kill speed while I go farming for Dark Rings. Handing out Addle to White Mage just feels like rubbing salt in the wound.
With the way the metagame is shifting towards keeping even the DDs from hitting things, I just don't see RDM on the front lines in any regular capacity short of a miracle or complete disregard for any and all game balance. Temper is not that miracle, and thus far is not part of a more complete package that would create such a situation. It just feels like there's a huge disconnect between a lot of the devs in charge of all the different aspects of the game design and it's all working to frustrate Red Mages of all varieties.
Right after a besieged ended, I decided to go to Port Jeuno for a moment to check out what was up. There was a shout for Vunkerl feet farming.
Nearly three hours later, just as I was about to pack it in for the night, finally some feet drop. COR feet. Which nobody came for. Then SCH feet, which I don't think anyone came for either.
So that's like ten hours worth of feet farming with only even seeing three feet drop. At least the one a week or two ago (SMN) was needed by someone who was there.
Thanks for the drop rate, SE, which is one of eight or so jobs of feet in a tiny fraction of the tiny fraction of gold chests that have poolable items. Thanks for the big gold chests with vanilla temp items that I already have. But most of all, thanks for making us farm the feet at all.
And the worst part may be that I don't really need them badly (I have Hermes Sandals), but I already have a full set of feet seals and I want to turn them in already.

Just out of curiosity, how are you doing your lights? I see 2-3 feet every time I go to a vision zone (cept maybe atthowa) and I’m rarely there for over the 120m mark. I solo a lot for gold boxes and curor. I usually build about 50 or so amber off the bat. Pearl comes as i start farming. I try not to touch the others (azure only if I/we plan on staying longer).
But the concept of Temper is a well-needed, solid message that S-E wasn't going to up and abandon a whole part of the Red Mage job, even after the Manifesto (appropriately) excluded it from most HNM scenarios. (The Manifesto makes me think that we're going to get some kind of buff-transfer type of Spell or Ability at 99, actually.)
I always found the whole Jack-of-All-Trades-Master-of-None thing to be kind of a joke in the first place. If you think about it real hard, even if you have to force the issue, there are very few jobs in this game that could rightly be considered to be One Trick Ponies. What really ends up defining the jobs isn't what they can or cannot do, but what the advantages and limitations behind them are. It's much more obvious in cases like RDM, SCH, or BLU, where the versatility is coded in writing.
Take for example one of my jobs, BST. It's very easy to look at it and simplify it as a job that melees with pets. But then:
- The job also has a built-in ability to heal other players. Limitation: It can only be done with LuckyLulush as a pet, and only with charges and Pet TP permitting.
- The job has the built-in ability to deal modest elemental damage: Limitation: The player needs 100 TP to do it and you can only inflict Light damage. Alternatively, there's Cloudsplitter.
- The job has the built-in ability to inflict various debuffs such as Paralyze, Area Sleep, Accuracy Down, or even a very heavy Attack Down. Limitation: You need to be using certain pets, and once again charge and Pet TP permitting. Accuracy and immunity are also issues (I mentioned once in linkshell how cool it would be to able to land Acid Mist on high tier NMs. One person's reaction: "LOL never. not in a million years")
- We even have Treasure Hunter now.
A big part of the job's unattractiveness is that the limitations aren't conducive towards high tier mob play except in highly specific cases. RDM's limitations are- they don't actually have to be hitting the mob to do any of this. I dare say all of RDM's limitations basically amount to MP cost and current subjob. And even then, subbing /WHM doesn't suddenly mean you can't deal a decent nuke on the side. This, by the way, is why I get the feeling a job like DNC is forever going to struggle to have a defined endgame role.
Right now, RDM's role as an enfeebler is really being hampered by a few things:
- Resist rates and the perception that being able to land enfeebles is unfair. Think, anything worthwhile right now is resistant to primarily Paralyze and Gravity. I can understand immunity to Silence since that would effectively neuter some mobs that are intended to be very difficult. But would it be really game breaking to be able to land Paralyze II easily?
- The hole in Saboteur's design where it goes wasted on an enfeeble that is not successfully landed.
- The upper tier enfeebles that actually distinguish us from WHM and BLM are merited instead of level progressed. Dia III, Bio III, Paralyze II, Slow II, Blind II. On top of that, Phalanx II is thrown into the mix and suddenly we can't have them all. Blind II, for example, is only "useless" because it's taking up a merit slot you could be using for some other spell. If I got it along with all the others, I absolutely would use it because there would be no reason not to.
I suppose if I wanted to go solely for the Enfeebling route, I could just take out my Phalanx II merits and put them into the spells I opted not to get but...nah...
This whole payment account merge thing is rapidly becoming a pain in my ass. I'm getting the impression that Bank of America & ClickandBuy don't get along too well. I've already received fraud alerts for unusual credit card activity (totaling $2.40 - yes ... two dollars and forty cents) & now ClickandBuy is telling me my credit card is not a valid method of payment.
I bank through BoA and had no problems... I got a random "International Fee" charge of $0.42(ish) and neither company can explain where it came from but that's about it. BoA Visacard worked fine for me.
Any opinions expressed are my own, and potentially unpopular with others. Should this be upsetting, maybe, read it again, insert smiley faces, rainbows, and glitter as needed.
I checked with BofA. They said nothing looks wrong on their end. She said I may want to make sure I don't get charged an international something or other fee since ClickandBuy is a British company. ClickandBuy has now put a number of charges for $2.40 through, but their system says my card is blocked.
Why must companies fuck up a system that seems to be working fine?
ETA: The phone number listed on the ClickandBuy Website has been disconnected or is no longer working. Nice.

They worked up to about 130-140 amber. My gut feeling was that they built way too much amber, because I've heard that bigger gold chests are more likely to have key items and temps. (aka "crap") And they did the amber first. I was the WHM, so there wasn't much that I could do about amber.
And my only DD jobs right now are BST and PUP, so I'm not exactly set up to solo amber.

BST does. It's the mythic WS. Primal Rend. Hear it puts out quite decent numbers when geared properly.
It's not bad as a solo WS, especially if you're subbing /RDM since MAB improves its damage. And it's better than Rampage in any situation where you're fighting mobs with high defense or take reduced physical damage, like elementals. After a little messing around, I found it was better than Rampage in the KCNM fight Last Orc-Shunned Hero (I guess those orcs had high defense), and that was with /NIN subjob.
