I check other BLUs all the time to see if my gear goals are correct. Most of them wear the same thing, and the ones that don't I either can tell that they're gimping it up, or I ask them why they chose that particular piece over another.

Seriously. Filters. Look into it. I haven't seen someone check me since 2003.

I /check people on a constant basis. Honestly it’s very rare I check people to see what job they are though. It more to mentally compare my gear to theirs or possibly see something that I’ve missed (and want). I actually enjoy people checking me. then I can make funny emotes at them.

And If I get annoyed with it, I just macro a gear swap, that way it’s annoying for both parties

One of my pet peeves are people who just don’t have a clue sometimes.

I was doing a VNM trial with a buddy a couple days ago. He was Mnk, I was whm and we had a LS friend come as War.

Let me first say the War is a nice guy. Talks jibberish a lot but helps others very often and complains very little.

But he came wearing a shield and a dagger. I asked why, and he said it because it had some good helpful stats for the fight.
Well…it was a Yataghan…and the ‘good’ stats he was referring to was Eva+6….for his War….

All this talk of weeaboos reminds me: I've seen lots of Ultimania guides in Chinese. So yeah, they just can't be bothered to translate them into English.

Also speaking of weeaboos, Gundam models taller than I am. And im not in japan wut?

I really don't get why all the offense over /check anyway. That is unless you are somehow embarrassed by what others are going to see.

I know this is a common mantra but I've never been thoroughly convinced of it. For mage jobs, sure up to a point. For standard DD jobs, not so much.
I'm not really convinced by it at all, since skilled people will know what appropriate gear is. Even if you're not up the earlobes in bling bling, I think most jobs still have a modest "on-a-budget" look. Jobs like PUP not withstanding I suppose.

Others that you'll see a lot of today will be a kind of pre-75 cap increase look, since a lot of people are coming back to the game.

But unless you have something to hide, I don't see why some people get worked up over /check. The only time it ever flat out annoys me is if somebody checks me multiple times. This usually happens when I'm fighting something. Gear swaps, etc. Otherwise, call me hung up about my gear or whatever, but I usually feel pretty good if people see what I'm wearing.

            /party macros.

I think the only ones that don't drive me up the wall are when they're used for pulling(not ranged attacks, just pulling) and announcing pro/shell.

Everything else? Senseless noise that needs to be met with extreme prejudice.

Summoners seem to be one of the worse offenders for party macro spam.
aside from pulling with a polite call "I like the single ding" and gather together (buff) There's really no need for any others.

Doesn't bother me most of the time, but 90% of them are completely unnecessary. There's no reason the party needs to know what nuke you're casting or who you're hasting right now so badly that you need to override their filters and/or make sure it appears in their log twice, nor is there any reason to announce how much MP you have every time you cast a spell. Likewise the only person that needs to know that your Provoke or Sneak Attack or whatever is ready is yourself. Use /echo.

I had this one smn friend who had full-on theater production macros for his blood pacts including talking to his avatar and emotes with his eyes bleeding blue and "barely controlling the power" for Shiva's astral flow and whatnot. It was halfway amusing but I was embarrassed to go anywhere with him.

Yeah, I'm sure that's the intended effect of that song.

It's even worse when you have people using the tab key for party macros too. I hate it when people randomly toss in auto-translated stuff in sentences anyway. I loaded up the client in German just to see how confusing it must be for foreigners and could barely read Jeuno shouts, tells and search comments.

                            Some of the worst ones:

                            <May> <Bee> = <May> <Hornet>
                            <head> <Over there> = You're basically telling someone there's a "helmet in that direction"
<back> <up> = You're basically telling someone that there is a cape on their up key
<camp> <location> <where> = Essentially this is asking where a good place to go on a camping trip would be.
<job> = This is basically saying that you have a job equipped in your sub slot.
<Gather together!> <Protect>+<Shell> = Basically this is asking you to come to your position when you're calling party members to camp for Protect and Shell, but it essentially still says <Gather Together!> <Protect>+<Shell>
<Retreat> = Basically you're telling a foreigner to call back their SMN pet and not to <Run away!>
<Reward> = This translates as the BST Job Ability and should never be used. You <Reward:> or <You can have this> instead (the latter is pretty personal in Japanese though IIRC).
<sweet>s = Makes absolutely no sense because it talks about the food item category that is different from client to client.
<Last Boss> = The last boss in a Dynamis run (not the Mega Boss which has it's own auto-translate).
<Heal!> = Literally translates as "Please heal me" and should not be used as a way of ordering party members around. This is a great way to piss of White Mages using a foreign client because it is always seen as you are personally asking for heals even if you don't need them.
<Help me out!> = Literally translates as "Please save me!" and implies that you are in a dire situation. You should use <Please Assist> instead. The German client uses "Hilf mir!" which is less dire tan the message in Japanese but still implies that your life is in danger.
<Standing by> = In French and Japanese it does mean you're standing at attention but in German this is actually a request to wait. "Bitte warten" literally means "Please wait"
<cap> = This refers to cap as in the type of hat in all clients

This and <Bee> <Ready> are usually indicators that the player needs to be shot in the face.

If SMNs are the worst offenders of /party spam, BSTs are the worst offenders of /say spam, which is arguably worse...arguably anyway.

It's as if usually soloing is a license to make Pokemon macros or some other nonsense about telling the pet to rip the mob's guts out.
