The "wait until Japanese midnight" restrictions on certain missions. There's absolutely no reason for that.
Nanny programming. Please mommy can I have the cookie? Latest time I ran across this was getting my BLU af1. Yeah, it's a unnessary and stupid idea. Waiting a game day? Yeah I can see that... but a RL day? Not necessary.

That - and shops being closed during certain hours and/or on certain days. I'm pretty sure they're not worried about the NPCs working too much overtime.

Maybe they need to elect a more conservative leader to abolish the labor unions.

Timesinks in the form of Japanese midnight and opening times didn't piss me off as much as the blatant laziness in not even vaguely trying to disguise them. I think that's what annoyed me most about FFXI, the constant glaring timesinks from shitty zone geometry causing you to go around an entire map to compensate for a 3 inch bump in the terrain to having to sit with my thumb up my ass waiting for a shop to open only to discover it was the fucking day of the week they had off for holiday. If you started listing them all you'd be amazed at how many there are, the doors in Whitegate that are closed for no reason other than to make you run around the map and waste an extra few minutes.

Reason: There not they nubbins.
How about the doors that wouldn't open for like thirty seconds because of server lag? Not that it was an intended timesink, but it always drove me absolutely insane that I'd have to sit there waiting after I clicked to run through the damn doors. What was the point of all those fucking doors anyway? I mean really? They just increased server load and decreased convenience.
Ok seriously? You're complaining about zone design not being a flat table of open areas so that you were required to spend extra seconds getting somewhere?
When I had to stand waiting at a door for three minutes because it wouldn't open? Yes, I am. Is it a small amount of time? Yes. But when I have to run back and forth through those doors a dozen times a day? It gets irritating.

Not at all. I'm complaining about them being created in a way that caused you to waste hours at a time navigating around maps that should have been much simpler to traverse such as Beaucedine Glacier if you wanted to get to Fei Yin or, as previously mentioned, tiny little lips of rock making entire routes impassable causing you to have to go around an entire zone to cover what should be a 1 minute journey. It's fuck all to do with immersion and everything to do with making you waste chunks of your life doing mundane, dreary shit instead of playing the game.
Pressure plates. I'd be better with that concept if Galkas didn't get a free pass. They should at least need a Taru. Then they could have a picnic once on the other side. I don't think that Adventuring Fellows work (correct me if I'm wrong) and that doesn't make sense either... a PUP's automaton should be able to ... a BST should be able to get a mob ... stupid f'n pressure plates. And usually it's a pain in the ass to have someone simply come out for their "weight".
I also agree that WG is pretty damn convoluted to get from point A to point B. Just glad that place is no longer the end all be all hub of the world.
