Have you tried killing pets like BLMs do? Specially as a BLU (burst dmg) this could be made relatively easy for fast chains.

That's a good idea but if there's a BLM already there don't be a douche, they have enough trouble xping* without someone who can kill other mobs coming in and taking the only thing they can xp off of.

Used to piss me off so bad when some fucking DRK would come killing BST pets. And of course that was back when people partied for XP but still, there are so many zones and so many mobs in Vana'diel, BLMs can't really xp off anything but pets until about 65 whereas other jobs can.


*I realize this is probably irrelevant now, but I like to think some people enjoyed XPing solo on BLM just as well as I did and still do it.

I used to actually kill the BST, and their pet when I soloed for maximum exp gain. Until people started yelling at me about killing the pets. Half of them weren't even blms though.

My philosophy is that if it's someone who can get a party (obviously my philosophy is dated), then they shouldn't steal mobs from someone who can't. But if there's no one at the BLM camp? Have at it. I just would get so mad at people who would see me there, even watch me kill a mob or two, and then pull. It's one thing if the BST aggros you and you have to kill the mob then, but quite another if you go out of your way to fuck someone over, although GMs respond to that.

Lately I've been struggling w/ the BLU guides on wiki. The solo guides are kinda dated and many of the suggestions seemed like more of a hassle than putting up with "low xp" (ie 250/kill). I really wanted a "you should be using this spell combo now" guide. Closest I've found is the spell description guide. Still mainly using Bludgeon, Head Butt, and Jet Stream for damage dealing... mainly cuz I haven't had the time lately to run around learning my spells. I think I'm in my late 40's when it comes to what spells I know even though my lvl is in my late 50's. Mainly I justify it as increasing my blue magic level to potentially learn them easier when I do get time (currently in rehearsals a lot of my time) to wander around.

I'll look into the Grounds of Valor page and possibly Fei Yin, thanks. Maybe there's some spells I can learn down there to boot.

My peeve is a mixed ffxi/Rl peeve.
Most guides for jobs are outdated having to resort to take scraps from here and there and make do with what's available.
I know I should put the work in myself and maybe contribute to what is out there.
I just really miss the dedicated and helpful players.

I'd like to find a guide to get me started in abyssea. Still havent been inside regardless of 2Ls that go regularly.
wiki/GE leaves me more confused than when I started. I think I will have to resort to dragging my bst in solo but the time thing puts me off. I imagine it's something I'd grasp quite easily once I get going.

I'm seriously considering moving to Valefor and stalking Yyg and his Ls.

I'll agree with you regarding BLU guides being out of date. Hell, most job guides are out of date.

I'm nearly 60, and I still primarily use HB and Bludgeon for damage. I used to use Jet Stream, but I didn't find the damage per MP spent to be worthwhile compared to Bludgeon. I did have some fun last night with Mandibular bite though.

Honestly, most of the good damaging spells don't start showing up until around the late 50s or so. Until then I've found the better bet is NOT to spam spells at the mob, but to set your spells primarily for stats, and melee the mob while tossing in the occasional spell to enfeeble or do damage. That way you can keep going longer without resting.

GoV has been awesome, btw. Definitely look into it. The rewards are really handy.

Very true. And the skillchain is good but Red Lotus Blade's damage sucks donkey balls. I was gonna try and get Mandibular Bite soon and try for my CoP spells asap. Since I did CoP prior to the nerf, I still hold some healthy fear for those zones but I'm probably totally fine, lol.

Not having any cities cleared in Dynamis.

All the Dynamis shells on the server seem to have died and I don't know how the fuck I'm gonna get northlands access.
