  • Re: What's your pet peeve in FFXI?

I need to actually finish reading 8-bit one of these days. I slowed down somewhere around the 800th or 900th strip and then never got my momentum back to finish it.

      I'd have like 6 years of 8bt to catch up on if I ever went back ><;

From what I'm told... it ended. It's over. I refuse to visit the site. I stopped at the mid 800s and I don't want a conclusion. I'm happy to simply remember their adventures as they are in my mind... unfinished.

Oh BM... you make me giggle.

Also yes... it ended. I just broke my own rule and visited the site to drag back one of my favorite quotes.

It's in anime style... I glanced it... but I'm not going to read it until I can bring myself to go through the other 200 episodes leading up to it.

            Looks awsome tho.

I just realized with spellcast I don't get to see my spell animations because of how I blink back to my idle set.

I was always intrigued by spellcast. I havent used it... but I always wondered if it would truly make a large difference in how I play now.

As it is... my macros are pretty damn advanced for all occasions. I cant really see how it could make my playing experience significantly easier.

I'm not asking for anyone to try to convince me. I dont use any of those programs. Call me paranoid... but I prefer to remain a purist.

If you can get it set up properly, it's the difference between night and day. Or at least that was my impression as a Red Mage. It's an insanely powerful tool, but configuring it is a fairly big hurdle if you try to do anything moderately complex. If nothing else it'll let you swap all your gear in one press instead of several, which on its own is tremendous.

                    Your screenshots make that obvious.

Yeah, but he can fix that with a simple regedit, no third party programs required.

I've got some program now called "Cam Studio" that allows me to take HD video and HD screen shots. It even gives me the option to automatically convert them into Youtume format and upload them for me as soon as I hit STOP. So far I like it. It'll make a world of difference once I start taking picture of the LS members again.

Dont worry Murph... I have no intention of dragging everyone back out to a simgle location on a single day. This time i think I'm going to hunt people down individually and catch them in ACTION SHOTS. You should be able to tell the vast difference in the picture quality as soon as I get around to uploading the SS I took the other day.

The only problem I haven't been able to work out is the issue I have with sound. When I record video... I can't seem to get it to record sound. Every time I try and set it to draw from my speakers... or anywhere for that matter... I get this funky error message. I hope to have that worked out soon... but until I do, I'm not posting links to any of my YouTube videos that have been uploaded so far. I want the sound to work first.

Edit: Wow... that was quick. Once I got off my lazy ass and actually searched for an answer to the audio problem... I found one. I have to test it out... but the person who posted the fix on program's website described the exact problem I was having. Hopefully I'll be posting videos up here soon to compliment the SS I've been trying to keep up with.

actual peeve: getting conned into attending a dunes party on my Red Mage.
Yeah, I'm totally thrilled to spend a night assaulting my gums with a rusty tire iron for a single merit after spending last night zooming around at 75 and snatching up a cool 30 merits.

Now I'm slightly grumpy with my linkshell because I would have much preferred to spend that time debugging my spellcast. Curse this insufferable tendency to be polite.

other night I went up 4 levels on SAM, but I had fun helping a PT member escort our WHM to Jeuno, it was his first time. (not really a peeve)

Before spellcast I was using three macros for every spell I cast, daisy-chained through each other across multiple macro sets, and three more after every action to switch back into my idle or engaged set. After spellcast all my macros got shortened to 1-2 lines. Since coming back I haven't yet set spellcast back up, and using the old interface is so slow and clunky. Sometimes lines don't even execute if I hit the macros too fast, so I have to slow myself down and generally it feels like I'm playing hip deep in mud. As another benefit, whenever I upgraded my equipment before, I would change one line in one set is spellcast and every spell that used that gearset would reflect the change, as opposed to sifting through two or three dozen macros to find all the references to that gear slot and type it in appropriately.

If you accept that gear swapping is something you should do to maximize your effectiveness at your job, spellcast is the only reasonable way to manage it. The standard interface is like punchcard computing in comparison. Not that I judge you poorly for deciding not to use such tools--if that's the way you want to play then I feel it's a valid decision--but having played without and then with and without again I don't think I could stand to log in again without writing some xml.
