I've got half a mind to just hardcode some of this just so I have my basic vanilla macros working via spellcast. Holy kittenmuffins this should not be such a difficult thing to do.

The learning curve is a bit steep if you don't have guidance, yeah. It took me like 2 evenings to figure it out. After that, I was pretty much set.

I'm having trouble getting something as simple as Elemental Staves set up. It's making me /headdesk pretty hard. I think I need to go watch more ponies.

Turned out to be a spelling error. Apparently I tried to spell Aquilo's with two L's and didn't bother trying to nuke with anything else. Go team!

Indidentally this means I'm probably going to end up spending part of tomorrow hammering out more spellcast. Fun times ahead.

Had some major downtime in the office this morning so I took the opportunity to hammer out more XML. I think what I've put together is pretty basic but isn't so rigid that I can't expand it later. If anyone wants to slog through it and give me some feedback I'd be thrilled. I really can't wait to try this out later tonight.

I always prefer writing my own XMLs, but I'll take certain snippets from other XMLs when needed. I like your "ARGH" comment at the top though. I've written some code that literally has a conversation with itself in the comments...

As far as the fishing thing, there isn't any rule to set it. I'm not familiar with the autosets, so I don't know how to set fishing sets.

And this reminds me... I need to write up my SMN XML. And buy the rest of my HQ staves. And work on getting SMN gear.

I've found that screaming your frustrations in the comments has always been therapeutic when writing code of any sort. It tends to help sort out the thought process of it all when you go back to look at it later as well.

The more I look over the documentation the more I realize there's a crazy level of customization that can be achieved here. The trick is going to be sifting through it all and figuring out what I want and how to implement it. For example I still haven't figured out how to optimize things so that I get the most out of my MaxMP build by slowly freeing up slots without turning the whole XML file into a pile of spaghetti code. For now I'm content to overlook it, but it's one of those things that could be done with a bit of effort and proper planning.

Also: figuring out how to seamlessly swap between sword-chucks mode and backline casting in one XML file. My gut response is to not bother and just keep two separate XML files and maybe a macro to bounce between them, but this thing certainly looks robust enough to support the option to do it all in one.

Spellcast is like an awesome puzzlebox and the prize inside is a better FFXI.

A little, although I wouldn't actually trust SE to put together something this awesome. It's really dumb that they haven't just said: we didn't make this thing but we're officially ok with you all using it. It'd be the best of both worlds.
