  • Re: What's your pet peeve in FFXI?

I do think that people under 75 have no business there at all with the exception of maybe turning in items to npc or cutscenes. I just dont think it's right to be able to do it that fast. I think of an aby burned char like when you fast forward a dvd, You kinda know what the film is about but you've definately missed key elements to the plot.

I think abyssea is great as it has got more people working together on things but at the same time it's ripped the heart out of the game because nobody parties like they once did and many other activities like campaign are redundant.
What I dont understand is SE would have been alerted to the problems the community are facing but it seems they are ignorant to the views of the subscribers. I don't think SE see it as accidental because they are well aware of how the game works. Recently it seems SE just gave us some filler to grab x3 chunks of money off us before subscriptions drop even more.
Part of me thinks they are intentionally forcing us out to play with the new shiny 14.
Which is a shame because regardless of there being a newer game out XI's lifetime could still be alot longer. People play for many reasons, Social, fun, in fact the story and content isn't what keeps me in the game it's the little adventures I have with my friends I've made. Sitting in my moghouse chatting with my Ls about all manner of random things.
I used to love my mentor status and helping newbies with things. I just feel SE are shutting the doors to people that want to join now.
This wasn't/isn't a "tin foil hat" or "the sky is falling" post.
Just in game at the moment it feels like something just isn't right.

I think it's been quite clear what SE thinks, though, since the days of Astral Flow parties: "If you can find the means to exp fast, go for it."

The majority of players probably view the trek up to level cap as more grind than good times, and apparently SE is willing to entertain them.

I think you'll have to pick one; either it's great people are now working together, or it's awful that they don't do group activity anymore. It'd be illogical to have your opinion both ways.

Well, if your assessment is that SE is baking new problems into FF11 intentionally, this would be an irrational conclusion--no one sells more service to customers by proving they can't delivery the existing service well. It's a nonstarter as a business plan.

Well, it's ok for old people to feel change is "not right". Just ask Hosni Mubarak.

            I'M STAYING !!! lol

It's not that I dislike change. I like many things with the game, That's why I'm still here.
I just don't understand why a game that makes money the longer you subscribe would change the game so now it's no different than a console game you can rent and complete over a weekend. I'm not saying you can complete the game in a weekend. It's as if they don't want us in the long run. Pushing us to completing it faster it reminds me of the firedrills at school being quickly ushered down a corridor.

I think it's great I "could" gain rediculous exp and have fun with everybody else but I thought the old ways to exp was great too. We got to explore and learn mob behaviour. The rest of the game is redundant. Nobody is partying outside of the Abyssea areas unless its for trials or a Ls/Friend thing.
The old style of parties may have been slower but there was no need to eradicate it.
It just seems like somebody has ran up to me, slapped me in the face and shouted "You've been doing it wrong" then ran off.
I like change, I'll probably end up being a key ho and burining up a job or at least subjobs.
I just think Abyssea could and should have been implemented a little better to give a balance of both types of gaining exp.

              Getting blamed for crappy exp/hr.

Not my fault that Samurai over there is bleeding to the tune of 200 mp per minute and can't figure out how to not take hate. You want me to keep a full haste cycle and refresh the Blue Mage on top of that too you say? Right...

Last exp pick-up group I joined (for cruor), not only did my SAM received no Haste, but no Protect, no Shell, and no Erase (to counter Slow, which Haste would have prevented). Think I recovered as much HP from temp items as from the healers.

I think that's normal now, with Dominion Ops distracting people every ~5 fights or so, and alliance builders think DNCs can replace WHMs and RDMs (and healer SCHs--but those are rare), plus those wonderful Saber Dancers whose macros helpfully tells the alliance that they ain't gonna be giving out Waltzes.

So, yeah, when on SAM, I'm /NIN only. (Gives me an excuse not to level /DRG up more, I suppose.)

I wish that chest-checking (and opening) didn't get interrupted by every AOE from friend or foe, or by healing/enhancing spells (yes - I know I can use keys, but if it's a no-pressure situation, I like to do the puzzles). Getting interrupted five times before you can even see what's in the freakin' chest is very annoying (protect, shell, AOE, cure, some COR thing).

If they'd even change it so you only get interrupted by enemy AOE, it would be an improvement. Heaven help you if you're in a party with a BRD and a COR in addition to "regular" mage types (and fighting mobs that do AOE).

My other peeve right now is the ridiculously high AH prices for Tier IV BLM scrolls, along with a few other scrolls. Everything I still "need" as BLM is 190k or above -- some in the 280k-300k range. Aero IV, Water IV, and Blizzard IV are the ones I need. I also need a few of the Tier V spells, but I'm just waiting for them to appear in Abyssea chests. Now that Phalanx can be used by PLDs, the price is 600k in the AH. Gonna have to wait for that one to drop in a BCNM. The worst right now is Raise III (which I've had for ages and ages, thank heaven). My husband hit level 70 WHM the other night. Raise III is currently going for 800k. Dear Freakin' Altana!!!

I've been the DNC in that situation. It's not pretty. Especially when doing Dominion OPs and camping like 300-400 yalms away from the Dominion dude/tte. Then after about 30min or so of doing the OPs you find that everyone is pullers suddenly and the people you want to heal are spread out at the camp so far they are out of your range.

At least they told ya tho... but they should know their role. You (not you specifically, the DNC/LOL's that seem to do darken DNC's good name) can't just Saber Dance and consider yourself a DD suddenly. Yes, DNC can throw down some pretty decent numbers but there's a time and place for everything. I only use Saber (1merit) if all the bases are already covered or if I want to take hate in campaign.

AMEN!!! Idk how many pretty decent to crap items (still worthwhile to NPC for gil) cuz of mages, bards, corsairs, scholars buffing up the team. I lot high numbers few and far between already... then to have my Dark Ring w/ epic dmg resists disappear cuz a teammate was doing their job just sucks.

Along these lines I was reminded of campaign woes. I love it when the enemy is surrounding the tags guy doing AoE and all I want is to get into a union... I love it /sarcasm

This was on birds...at level 55ish...

Give me infinite mp from the magical land of Abyssea and I wouldn't be making such a fuss, but instead trying to improve my own gameplay.

Not saying it was your fault here, seems the party was obviously fail. There's no reason you shouldn't be able to haste all of the melees in a party at that level. They were probably shitty DDs and taking way too long to kill which does end up requiring more MP from you. Did you have a bard? Or at least something else that casts spells? RDM + 5DD is extremely difficult to maintain. This was why I never took a party at that level where I was main healing unless I had some support. (Even then, I almost always opted to level with a WHM or a SMN.)

After all, people still make those DDx5 + RDM parties, and they are even less inclined to use /NIN than ever, so no one is trying to save the RDM's MP. *shrug*

There's no fucking reason to be in a party if you're the only mage - at any level. That's just asking for misery. /NIN is not a panacea.

When I last played I was always stuck with that composition. OMG ... deja vu. Seems like this convo played out before. I think it went like, "I did this last time I played..." and "they're still doing it today".

I've been able to handle bird parties at that level before, but this one was just...well look at the lineup.

RDM BLU DRG NIN SAM DRK

The BLU tossed a magic fruit and healing breeze once or twice but it wasn't nearly enough to keep the party SAM going. It got to the point where I was deliberately letting the SAM die when they couldn't control their hate just so I wouldn't have to keep wasting mp on them. It's pretty bad when tossing them a raise is a better way to avoid downtime than keeping them healthy.
