And Teal is self-explanatory. (Are any mages actually using that set, by the way?)
Not as a set or even most of the pieces. I see some of them as sidegrades or simply more gear crunching and inventory clutter. "Oh, Teal is nice for this. But damn it all, I still need Mahatma for that."
Not that I want this to be read as elitism, but I feel that, very soon, seeing somebody in full Perle or whatever is going to be interpreted as being Scrooge-ish with your gear.

The BlueGartr forumites are already in a tizzy about it.

Really, it was inevitable once S-E finally figured out how to make an armor "Set" whose set effect made the set actually comparable in power to what already existed, buuut . . . not quite there over the top.

However much I am actually smart, I got that way by confronting how stupid I am.
Thankfully not. I think this one primarily plays Ranger and Thief. Still...ugh...they tried to say something about needing high evasion for it to be any good. It made me sad.
Well, higher evasion does make it a little, teeny tiny bit cheaper. It extends my Stoneskin, making life a teeny bit longer.
I was in a LS once with what had to be one of the most retarded PLD. This guy was rabid over the very existence of NIN. Shit talked anyone who decided to level it and did actually kick out a high level NIN after an argument where he tried to argue that PLD was the only tank in the game. The dumbass could not understand that for different things, different strategies, including different tanks might bee needed.

Never mind. I'm going to be elitist about it. Up until Abyssea was introduced, I managed to get by without joining parties because I am in no rush to get EXP since I already capped my merits and was simply working towards capping EXP buffers. As such, I got by on the grace of Campaign, which I actually happen to enjoy so that's a bonus for me. I was sheltered from all these horror stories about lackluster party members in parties.
Now I'm back into the party...er...Abyssea alliance scene and I am beginning to see that, yes, there are quite a lot of gimps out there. These aren't things that BG people make up just to put on their wall of shame.
THF is a job that currently has a struggling image as a damage dealer. So it does the job 0 favors when you are a THF fighting the mandragoras and you miss Dancing Edge! Every hit of it!
Aw, poor RDM. It has this image as a Refresh/Haste monkey. It doesn't melee. It doesn't enfeeble much anymore. And by one Abyssea alliance member's reckoning, it can't nuke, so it can't contribute to Azure kills. No shit, Sherlock. You're nuking in MP gear and your Tabard!
If THF has a struggling image as a damage dealer, BST has a struggling image as a party member. I saw some shouts in Whitegate for an Abyssea EXP party and it was a THF (har har) who wanted WARs, SAMs, and MNKs for damage dealers. Nothing else. Despite the awesome new pets for BST, it looks like BST still has a reputation as a poor damage. That is the impression from the BSTs I've seen in my Abyssea parties. BSTs subbing 37 WHM for one thing. BSTs full-timing Perle for another. BSTs NOT CALLING PETS too. And then there's the BST subbing 37 WHM and full-timing Perle but NOT CALLING PETS.

The majority of players that make up the gimps of your Abyssea alliance are likely just capping jobs that they previously had at 75. I think it's personally reasonable that someone might have subpar and/or standard gear for a job that isn't their main, and they just want to bring to 80. God forbid someone doesn't spend 10 hours a day on FFXI and attend daily schedules so that their auto-attacks are 10% faster and deal 10% more damage!
Which leads me to my pet peeve in FFXI.
People who judge players by the gear they're wearing, IN TOWN. I mean really? All I see now adays is, "OMG, this DRK has a Spike Necklace on," or "OMG, this PLD is wearing Adaman Sabatons!" I personally like to wear gear in town simply based on it's looks. And regarding a DRK wearing a Spike Necklace, maybe he was testing something? Maybe he doesn't have an omg-gear macro for town, and that was his SATA piece?
I mix in AF with my DRK relic because I don't have the relic that fits those slots, nothing else goes good with Abyss Cuirass, and Abyss Cuisses than the AF head/hands/feet. Do I wear that when I'm in an EXP party? Do I use it during HNMs? No. So what's the big deal? I even wear my Demon helm with the relic! Oh noes!
Are people really that ignorant?
In the moonlight, your face it glows.. like a thousand diamonds, I suppose.
And your hair flows like.. The ocean breeze...
Not a million fights could make me hate you, you’re invincible. Yeah, It’s true.
It’s in your eyes, where I find peace.
Well if you go back to BG for a sec, town gear shots = ban, no matter what. Person has to be using the equipment in some aspect of battle.
I'm all for keeping your main job pimped and maybe having a little less for the jobs you don't really play, but there's also a line between acceptable "alternate job" gear and really shitty alt job gear.
Bitching about town gear is dumb, though. I know someone who used to wear signed pieces around town, like the aforementioned Spike Necklace. Show up at Dynamis without an acceptable neck piece though? GTFO.
