Celerity is the ability that makes the next spell cast faster. Penury cuts mp cost. You guys are lucky if you were only assigned one melee. We don't have 18+ people anymore so I'm in the party trying to keep 4 melee alive.

One healer per party with one melée being designated the one that must not die, is how it was usually done.

Yeah, good lord we didn't have enough WHMs to assign one to each melee. And yeah, thanks for the clarification on Scholar abilities. It's been a while.

It's the price we pay for being demi-gods.

On the other hand I've seen a few Red Mages who could use a good smack upside the head. Just do your homework and don't pay any attention to the idiots.

Usually the ones tagged as "must not die" are the ones doing their utmost to do so, aren't they?

Honestly, I'm getting pretty sick of WHM, and always ending up as that due to experience and people knowing I do a better-than-fair job of it. The only way I'd expect that to change is to level another must-have job, and then I'd get pigeonholed on THAT.

Yes the ones taking the most damage are the ones they want me to keep alive. I do understand it though. We had a time where the other healers messed up and my pt was the only one standing (and only 3 at that) until we switched out people....and of course I was lead. >< That was fun...try swapping people in, changing someone else to leader, and keeping the 2 melee alive that are getting pounded. Migraine ahead!!

I rarely got to play any of my melee jobs because I had rdm, whm, brd, blm.....And when I say rarely, I mean I can count on one hand the times I got to come to events on a melee job and still have fingers left over! It was like this vicious circle...can't play melee, get rusty, don't get to lot melee gear, be under geared AND rusty, want to use melee, told melee doesn't have the gear and you don't play it as well as someone that does ALL THE GOD DAMN TIME...no shit Sherlock...

I'd imagine burnout would set in fairly quickly if you were forced to play high stress mage jobs for everything. If I ever make it to endgame I fully intend to level Dragoon on the side for something simple and low maintenance to play as so I don't go batshit insane and kill everyone. How did you guys manage to not dive off the deep end getting stuck on Mage duty every run?

Well I'm extremely patient so thats part of the reason I survived for years. I'm also from a generation that doesn't talk back, doesn't ask for help, and follows whoever is in charge religiously. So ya, I was a good member to have. lol My only downfall was sticking up for the regular guy. In large endgame ls's, there are people that get left out a lot. I tried to emphasis that their accomplishments counted too...but that doesn't always sit well. Like the time a long time member just up and disappeared (and it wasn't the first time), he was always talking about living in the ghetto and feared of dying...blah blah blah. So when he just popped off the map and no one had heard from him at all, many feared the worst. A month+ he comes back out of the blue with no valid explanation and when the next E Body drops (the same day or next day after he came back), the leader wants to give it to him. I spoke up. I said how about members who've been here for a long ass time, going to every event, and don't just *poof* on us on occasion? Thankfully another sac backed me up and this member was given the body..........oh but the leader sent me a nice nasty /t stating that the *poofy* member was getting the next one regardless. Ya I got sick of that pretty quick...more than coming on a mage job all the time....

                    • Re: What's your pet peeve in FFXI?

Magian trials fucking up BST camps.

After all, BST camps are what they are because on the average, they're less dangerous than other places (particularly the lack of beastmen and undead), and pretty much every mob type is on the menu now. If you need to kill 200 vermin, where are you going to go? In the middle of beastmen central, or some out of the way place with no aggro mobs? The average melee may know the usual party exp camps and stay away from them, and maybe even some burn camps, but most people know fuck all about where BST camps are.

I went to check out the Caedarva Mire camp west of Nashmau, and the first thing I saw was a 75 whaling away on the leeches and birds by the gate. At 62, I (apparently) need both of those leeches to solo there. And the birds to actually exp ON. So much for that. At least I waited until I was 4.5K tnl. But I had already gotten Sanction, so 100 IS down the drain, not to mention the ferry time. (I had checked that I was the only one lower than 65 there, but didn't check wide scan for the lack of mobs.)

Even "remote" places can be have trouble with the trialers. My favorite camp-o-the-week is in Meriphitaud (S), and after one campaign battle, some 75 SAM came around and started to kill the 58-60 Dragonflies. There's no other reason to fight them, as they just drop the occasional insect wing and wind crystal. But I think he noticed that I was already there exping on them and left pretty quickly.

1 thing that gets me is not being able to find a good situation to use awesome one-liners...or getting beat to the punch. There was a situation in my ls the other day that set me up perfectly to use my favorite one-liner of all time:

                        "Jane you ignorant slut."

But as I was about to push enter and revel in my awesomeness for finally getting to be able to use this in a conversation that was scripted my friend beat me to it -.- Luckily he used a different one liner so I can still use mine sometime but I got shot down.

Well guess it's not really considered a peeve but more of a frustration to most ppl but its a peeve to me since I like living on the lighter side of life. XD

I feel your pain on the magian trials.
For me it was Ulleguarnd range on the bomb camp. pets were rabbits vs bombs using 1 pet swap. As soon as the trials came I was camped upon continuosly and leaving me with not pets to switch to I went from 60/61 well over 10 times and that is by no means an exaggeration.

I was lucky with the nashmau camp I only had the odd person run past and kill stuff but they would carry on by once my character loaded on their screens,
The guides say to convert the leeches to a higher tier but I never bothered with that, you can take out the birds with saplings there too getting a few hits alongside yourself. I basically used the sapling and leeches against the birds and faught also. I managed to cap my axe and still consistantly reach chain 4. I hope your next session works out better for you because I personally loved that camp.

Magian Trials suck too, but I don't have one of them in my party right now.

Well, he does have a point about how (post level-sync), there's not an all-day LFG wait, so soloing isn't as useful as it used to be in terms of avoiding downtime. But I say that's just a sign that Level Sync has done what it was supposed to do.

And that thread reminded me of something. Yeah, like someone said, there's basically no endgame events with charmable mobs. Well, I spent a couple of hours today trying to figure out which campaign areas had worthwhile charmable mobs (except for some HNMs, I guess). Why should I be forced to throw gil at campaign in the form of jug pets, especially when they go poof after you zone?

Dungeon and Stronghold areas suck for everyone, so those were right out (though the three original stronghold zones seem to have some charm potential), but of the remaining 17 zones (5 for each nation plus 2 northlands), I came up with five zones. All of them have some kind of problem.
                                * Jugner_S - smilidons top out at level 60, but at least they're convienent and do okay if they don't take hate
                                * Vunkerl_S - now full of people doing magian trials on the crabs and pugils
                                * Pashhow_S - Breakga, but at least there's mobs nearby from 62-71
                                * Rolanberry_S - six fly spawns by going the exact opposite direction from the tower when you warp in
                                * Meriphitaud_S - flies do well, but they top out at 60, and only two spawns nearby. War Lynxes are way over by the maw, and scolopendrids are probably farther

Ha ha, I guess you could call this a "pet" peeve for sure.

EDIT: Oh, and Grauberg_S at 68+, but I'm only about to ding 65 right now, so that's a problem for me for now.
