Satori has a point (if you are p/ling him). If you let him level in parties, he'd learn patience, how to work as a team, that he has to follow instructions, and people would tell him WTF about his sub job choices. It may seem to be a bit harsh to just put him out there but its how most of us learned to be better players.

Oh I'm totally aware of the conundrum I'm facing here. Right now the goal is to get him to level 30 so he can start doing the flag quests for advanced jobs. I think the problem is that he hasn't really been in any exp parties yet and tends to solo a lot. I'm hoping that once he unlocks DRK I can trick him into leveling Warrior for a bit in normal parties, which will end up putting him through the ringer a few times.

If that doesn't work I'm going to eventually have to come down hard on him. The trick is going to be doing it without sounding like the bitter, jaded, angry person that I am. I guess I can just tell him the Dunes is an awesome place to level. That's passive-aggressive enough for my tastes.

Why is he so intent on soloing anyway? He does know that it's a multiplayer game and the entire purpose is to team up with other people, right?

I'm not sure he's actually opposed to the idea of teaming up so much as he just tends to solo a lot, taking things at his own pace. He's still pretty green all things considered, which is why I want to send him to the Dunes. The Dunes is a horrid place, but it's good for the education of new players.

If you really wanted to play with him go to the dunes with him on something you dont mind syncing with or a job you're curious about.
Or follow him to the dunes as the party Pl. that way he gets the safety of you there and also the leetness of "I have a char of all 75 jobs on another server" from the people lol.

It's nice you're taking the time to help him though. He'll learn soon enough "I hope"

Now he aspires to be a MNK/DRK so he can use Souleater with Hundred Fists.

All I can say is that that's a REALLY stupid use of JA ... and tends to correct itself if you ever do it.

It's pretty damn hilarious when done correctly.

And by "correctly", I mean "with the proper implements to survive until the abilities wear off". After that, you're dying, no ifs ands or buts about it.

We used to have mnk/drks when we would melée zerg Kirin. I used to HATE it! I was one of the best healers in the ls so of course we only zerged when we had our best people which means tricked out melees doing optimum damage. F**king an hour and a half to get everyone up there for a 2 minute fight. >< Then I'd be assigned to a mnk/drk of course (or one of our tricked out drks, which is just as bad) and expected to keep them alive. I only once had a death under my care but god damn those spoiled melée sure do f**king whine!!

Honestly put all of the MNK/DRKs in one party with a WHM and make sure that WHM has their finger on the trigger for Bene followed by a quick (Penury? Is that what it's called, fuck me I can't believe I forgot) Curaga IV. Fun shit.

I only died once during Kirin zergs and that was because of the one time my melée died. If I came whm, the melée just had way too much hate for my bene to get any major hate. (FYI, usually a 50/50 whether I'd cone rdm or whm.)

Pretty much, and besides after the adjustment (quite a while ago) Bene's hardly a hate magnet anyway. Unless you're a cute little level 11 WHM in the Dunes or something. With plenty of -enmity gear combined with 15 melees beating the ever-living hell out of Kirin, the last thing on his mind was chomping on little ole me.
