Why restrict it to RDM? I thought I'd try to help a group get to floor 5, and the WHM was always the first into the fight! The floor selection was pretty nasty too, but we had a spectacular fail where the WHM was the one with hate and was killed by some flan...

How is drk suppose to melee and stay out of AOE range? You're not expecting them to start to run away from the mob whenever they see the imp about to do a special move do you???

            "yup" ~Sam me

"There's no way you have capped polearm if you're Penta Thrusting for 300-500 against these birds" ~Sam leader

"I do have capped polearm. So I assure u it's quite possible.. maybe it's the fact you have kitty pants, Nyzul head, hands, body... idk, call me crazy" ~Sam me

"OH... yeah.. you're gimpt pants is proly what it is" ~Sam leader

"Do you want me to switch to GK?? ...where all my merits are. Get some skillchains going??" ~Sam me

"Calm down you two" ~ Rdm

            "I'm fine" ~Sam me

"Nah.. this party's done in 20 min anyway" ~Sam leader

... and suddenly the merit party became somewhat awkward for the last 20min. I really don't think we were doing all that bad xp/hr anyway. I need to find a sky LS that runs during my playtime... just to cut down on assmunch things like this. Take this crap to /tell if anything.

Don't you love the circular requirements? They want you to have better gear so you can do merits, but you need merits to go on runs to get gear...where will it end?

300-500 Penta Thrust against Greater Colibri is a tad low; think ~700 average (w/out Berserk, Minuet, or Chaos) or (much) better should possible, even for SAMs without polearm merits or ultra impressive gears. Were you using crab sushi? What does your WS set look like for Penta?

Most the polearm SAMs I've seen were using Tomoe, but that shouldn't cause a 300 point difference in average.

No, even with kitty pants, that sounds about right. Remember sam only has a B skill in Polearm, and that is HUGE difference when it comes to accuracy on greater birds.

                      Tale of Two Parties...

First party (where i'm gimp) Cor, Brd, Rdm, Drg, Sam, Sam - DD all on polearm
As I recall it, I wasn't totally in the 300-500 range all the time by any stretch... it seemed to me most times I was 600-700 and rarely 900+ . Tbh tho... when I started in the first party I didn't have a specific WS macro for Penta because I'd never been told before that GK was "totally unacceptible"; so, I was actually using my STR WS macro which was a bit inconsistent. So, as pulls would allow, I was working on a makeshift Penta macro just before and during that convo. I think the biggest problem the party had was this complaining leader couldn't tag the next mob before I got at least landed 1-2 hits in almost every single bird. Lack of Haste may have attributed to xp-chainFAILsauce as well. Right after this party I got....

Second party (epic) Brd, Brd, Rdm, Sam, Sam, War
We got experience chain 151 and stopped due to events. Haste was almost spammed continuously onto me whereas I never saw it while in the first party. My WSs were consistently 700-900+. My penta WS macro made a bit of a difference but I'd basically had the same macro most of the way thru the other party. There was a Sam on GK (leader) and War w/ duo-wield while I remained on polearm. Skillchains were possible so ... also a factor.

Food? ... when it wasn't being gobbled by the damn birds, I was using Bream Sushi +DEX and Acc I believe. Might have attempted a Meat Mithkabob somewhere in there as they were exceptionally hungry birds for my wallet.

I don't have access to the specifics of my gear at work but I'll do my best. I have AH gears mainly though with a bit of relic and a smidgeon of nyzul. I know one needs Acc for multi-hit WS so I basically made the Penta macro bring on the Acc and DEX so that I was WS'n in:

                      Engetsutso main weapon
Rose strap - thought of equipping my Pole grip but really
                      Lightning Bow +1
Saotome K - changed from Wyvern Helm
                      Chivalrous Chain
Haubergeon - between this and Hachiman I couldn't decide, think I ended up staying with Haubergeon
                      Dusk Gloves
                      Askar pants
Saotome sun ate - switched from Rutter Sabatons
Potent Belt - changed from Warwolf belt
                      Rajas ring
                      Sniper's ring - switched from +4STR ring
                      ... if I remember correctly...

I simply thought it interesting the 2nd party had absolutely no problem maintaining a chain and very little on my part actually changed from the first party. I wondered if the first leader was parsing on Winds-day and if that gave birds super boost or something because of the vast difference in parties. I know I need/want kitty pants, osode, nyzul head/hands/body, AND a hagun (saving atm)... but those are some pretty big ticket items that I'd basically first have to change my lifestyle to acquire... not saying I won't ... but I can't change everything all at once and expect the world be set in my lap. Wow... that was slightly long winded.

/em looks for a sky LS on Hades... that fits work schedule...

That gear aint the best, but aint the worst either. That PT leader was stupid for saying GK is "totally unacceptable" against birds, especially if you have GK fully merited. Chalk it up to an idiot PT leader who knows diddly shit about party dynamics.

Well, if you're 'seeing' 600-700, you weren't really seeing it. Penta's damage should vary greatly (which is why I rely on parser to give me the real average), so if you were looking, should be like a 300+ spread for the "majority of" them.

Still, I doubt you were doing all that badly, with COR and BRD buffs, your gear, plus some sushi. (I really recommend crab sushi spamming, on a macro--a relatively cheap food that helps a lot.)

Even NQ AH gear SAMs and DRGs should be able to output damage enough to chain in that party, if everyone was working hard...

Dark Knights that refuse to cast useful spells, like Stun.

Parties that are impatient and pull recklessly.

I really should have walked out on this party. When I have to scream {No more MP!} at my party to get them to stop pulling, there's something wrong. When I have to burn chainspell to keep them all alive and then they keep pulling like nothing happened, there's something wrong. When our bard and our tank go down and they want to keep pulling, there's something wrong.

I don't want to be a dick, but god damn, how am I supposed to work with that?
