Why can't people just stand still when the SCH is trying to cast buffs on the party? BRD comes in, sings songs, people are at attention. SCH comes in, uses Accession, "OMG, RUN AWAY, HE'S GOT RABIES!"

Found that 1 Macc ~ 0.9elemental skill and (i think) 1 elemental skill ~ 2 int (/waits for correction). Which means they were not enough to clog 8 slots. Now a full set is very cheap.

1 Elemental Magic Skill gives 1 Magic Acc, and 2 INT gives 1 Magic Acc too (assuming an INT-based spell.) Elemental Staves give 20 or 30 Magic Acc depending on NQ or HQ.

So yeah the grips are pretty weak.

Lack of maps makes completing quests more aggravating than it needs to be. Doubly so when you need to finish quests in the area before you can get the corresponding map.

Or the Thief suddenly decided that Curaga has an infinite AoE and runs off when you hit Curaga IV then bitches at you when he gets back to camp and you Regen II him because apparently White Mages are supposed to be able to break out a Cure IV just for the puller before the Paladin can build hate.

Then if you actually use a Cure instead of Regen to bring the puller back to full health in time for the next pull, the rest of the party whines at you for healing a DD instead of the Paladin (who is always sitting at full MP).

RDMs who dont listen in Nyzul.

I kept telling this RDM that I didnt need Haste (Refueling FTW) and to just keep me Refreshed. What does the dumbass do? Tosses me a Haste, but I go half the Nyzul run without Refresh! WTF man!

It's because you were trying to communicate with a Red Mage. I usually find that the only way to get the average Red Mage to listen is to boot them out of the party and replace them with with someone who is going to listen to the party.

My Paladin is at about Lv67 or 68 (my sig is at least 6 months out of date) and out of all of those levels I have not once receive a Haste or Refresh from a Red Mage. I've had Haste from White Mages and Summoners and a Ballad from the one Bard who actually knew how to play thier job but I've never been Hasted and Refreshed by a Red Mage before.

I hate that my job is full of lazy bandwagoners like that, not only giving the rest of us a bad name, but unabashedly perpetuating the way Red Mage is "expected" to be played.

You know the kinds, as well: those who level it as nothing more than a Haste/Refresh bot, purely for the purpose of whoring out Merits for their Thief, or even worse, their White Mage (you know who you all are)!

The real question is how does one prevent themselves from becoming one of those?
I've seen my share of idiot mages, but those were all pre-37 where you'd expect it. I live in constant fear that I'll inadvertently become one of these bandwagon Red Mages without realizing it.

You're not leveling the job for easy-mode merits. You're already not a bandwagoner. If you watch what you're doing, do your homework, and don't do anything too stupid (meleeing in full AF, for an example of what "too stupid" is), you should be fine.

On my server I would say about 75% of the Red Mages are the bandwagoners who level it for easy merits, 10% are genuinely good Red Mages and the rest are just plain bad Red Mages who should really try out another job.

With Bards I can count the number of peole on my server who have it levelled because they like it and not because they want to easymode merits on four fingers.

Nobody on Kujata plays White Mage past Lv37 anymore so we get treated like some kind of rare, unexplained oddity when we appear. Like Puppetmasters or Blueberry Paladins .

Because most people on my server have only experience playing with a WHM pre-37 you tend not to hear many nice things said about post-37 White Mages in xp parties so if hard to tell if the WHM really was that bad or people are overreacting and screaming about every minor fault the WHM made because they couldn't find a RDM or SCH.

I know someone who levelled both RDM and BRD to do that for thier BLM and WHM (though I haven't seen her play on WHM since Februrary). Funnily enough it's the same person who yelled at me for not being willing to waste a merit point on Protectra V...

Mostly aimed at cidbahamut, just quoting Amando's post to add to it:

Learning the limitations of a job is also very important. White Mages and Red Mages for example have tons of survivability and can easily take hits but you wouldn't really want to tank as one. Though that being said, lolWHMtank in Campaign is a lot of fun but Campaign is always an exception.

Red Mage is actually a hard job to play because while it is overpowered (I'm not bitter, they just are), they rely on sub jobs more than any other job in the game to get things done and because of this you will always be lugging around a ton of gear for every little eventuality.

It doesn't excuse laziness, running around in full AF when there's no need or healing in nuking gear (yes I have seen a RDM do that and yes it did work as well as you would expect) but Red Mage is one of those jobs where you need to be Batman or the party will hate you for it...Then blame the White Mage
