I have a general rule of not healing anyone who has tab regen on them. Any WHM with regen merits is basically grinding huge amounts of exp in campaign (since we're never going to get a merit party invite until SE does something crazy like giving us Refresh) to improve an ability which is solely intended to help the party. If you are going to be a selfish bastard and tell me you don't give a damn about me sinking time and resources into improving an ability to make YOUR game easier then I'm going to be selfish and stop caring about your HP.

The above is why I hate people who whine at me for not having Protectra V. No, fuck off, I'm not going to grind out 10k exp then waste a merit point to get a useless spell just so you can have 20 more defence. If you want that extra defence then switch to Crab Sushi and stop telling me I'm gimp because maxing Shellra V is much more important.

May as well add in this while I'm on a rant:

RDMs that heal over my regens. No, no, bad RDM. If you are going to waste my MP by healing over regens I'm going to waste your MP by cockblocking your Refreshes with Sublimation. Well if I'm lucky enough to get one anyway. I don't think that my PLD has ever been Refreshed or Hasted and the majority of pickup RDMs just act as though my WHM doesn't exist. My MP is a pool, not a fecking ocean. We don't have the luxury of being so damn overpowered and if you're going to act like you're selfish and don't care about the party WHM I'm going to stop caring when you get yourself killed by converting mid-fight with a mob that uses AoE.

EDIT: Yes I have just logged back into the game for the first time in months and after having the party that caused the above rants no I'm not regretting my decision to switch over to Aion.

This game really does need more good WHMs working together with more good RDMs. It just seems that there's always a shortage of both.

Pretty sure if I go back 75 pages, I'd find me QQing about other RDM's. I've been on Hades my entire FFXI career, many of these guys suck.

I don't want to say I'm a leet RDM, but when I can solo heal + buff 1 tank and 5 DD(generally all from lfp minus 1 DD usually), and other times I'd be in a duo RDM party and they couldn't work out a simple Refresh/Haste compromise, I kind of want to die alittle. There ARE many good RDM, but frankly the shitty ones outweigh them by a large margin.

2. You rant too much, and have way too much anger >.> try anger management.
3. Why the hell you play WHM is beyond me.
4. If you were my WHM, and didn't have Protectra V, I'd have you booted from any of my endgame shells.
5. Its your job to have those merit abilities taken care of, just like its any good PLDs job to merit emnity, or a DDs job to merit STR, etc.

Seriously, if a RDM heals over your Regen, tough shit, deal with it, theyre the ones wasting MP anyways. FoV Regen is only 1 hp/tic, so you're telling me that person doesn't deserve a Cure 2+ when they are at less than 10% health and will pretty much get owned if the next melee attack from the mob connects? Glad you dont play on my server.

Protectra V really is pretty useless, honestly. If that teeny bit of extra defense is that crucial to your tanks' survival, they're doing it wrong, not your WHMs.

And you might have noticed this is a pet peeve thread, we're allowed to bitch. I love the hell out of my WHM (or I did, when I played) but some of the fucking shit I had to put up with who didn't quite get how the whole thing works would really irritate me. And when a RDM cures over my Regen, he's not just wasting his MP, he's wasting mine. Actually, wasting mine more than his own, since his cure is actually doing something and my Regen is just sitting there ticking nowhere. Then again, those are the damn trigger happy mages who think that you have to keep everyone at 100% health all the time, instead of letting people sit in yellow here and there and tossing up a nice Curaga to clean everything up every once in a while. Work smarter, not harder.

A lot of people really don't know just how annoying it is to work with other mages who have no concept of sharing duties and MP management.

And it's not like people who have WHM have much of a chance to play any-fucking-thing else, at least not in my LS.

RDM who don't understand Regen should be a seperate Peeve. Normally through the course of a party, someone will take a hit from a mob. It's inevitable if your party is any good. Do I Cure III them? Hell no, toss a fucking Regen I, let it tick fully, BAM efficient healing. Regen is the one spell that makes me tempted to either level SCH or WHM cause of its efficiency(might also helped I played a Resto Druid in WoW and it's a similar role).

With the composure addition, I dont even Divine Seal -> Cure 4 anymore unless I fear I might get hate soon, otherwise it's just a super long Regen after a Cure 3. It really made me wish I had BLM sub leveled, cause on Colibri camp it'd be a lot more useful. And I know the minute I finish my RDM, leveling its subs, finishing my SAM subs and start leveling him, I'm gonna deal with some shitty RDM's. Inevitable.

And yes, Protectra V merits are useless. Defense after a certain point is just bad, a 75BLU can reach obscene amounts of defense, but eventually you just want -x% Physical Damage Taken cause it's a whole lot more effective. If Protectra V granted like, 5% Physical Damage taken fully merited(kinda like Shellra!), WHM's would pick it up in a heartbeat.

Yes, because if they hadn't had their head up their ass they'd still be above 50% because of the Regen.

I don't even want to think about what happens when people cure over regen 2 or regen 3...I'd imagine it would involve lots of pointy objects and the general discomfort of the rest of the party though.

Pfft I have cured (as a rdm) over a regen 2 or 3 and I could give a shit less. At those times, the tanks getting his ass owned and the whm regens him.......ya....great move exlax. Whms with attitudes make me want to punch them in the face. YOU LEVELED IT SO PLAY IT RIGHT! Btw I also have whm leveled AND I played it for the majority of my FFXI career. One endgame shell I was in for almost 3 years straight and played whm 99% of the time. I was a damn good whm too....probably better than I was at rdm and that hurts to the bone because rdm was my absolute love.

You negated any worthwhile point you might have had by stating this garbage. As stated by others already, Protectra V is a waste of merits.

Protectra IV increases defense by 55. Protectra V increases defense by 60 (+2 for each aditional merit) for a possible total of 68. So that's 13 extra defense for 22 merits.

There are times when a tank or melee is not in dire need of an mp wasting cure and a Regen is waranted. I hope this is the type of situation the other poster was referring to. I know how that feels, it happens all the time when I'm Whm at farming runs. Now during a Sky God, or Sea NM fight I can see cure > regen just for sake of keeping the tank alive. However, I have also done low man fights of those NMs where I had to use some Regen III's or I would have been out of mp 2-3 times during the fight and had to /heal. I'm sure you know from experience a resting Healer is not a good situation.
