  • Re: What's your pet peeve in FFXI?

As far as getting /tells from RMT goes, starting your characters name with the top or bottom of the alphabet, or just a commonly used starter letter like "S" is going to get you /tells from these people.

SE has given players all the tools they need to block them from the email, so /tell spam is essentially all RMT have left to advertise or bullshit you with. I've not seen email spam in months and RMT tells back when I still was playing more actively just doesn't happen. If and when they did happen, it was more common on Foobar roaming the starter cities since they're less densely populated and the letter "F" would place me higher on the list.

I probably won't go for the goofiness of the names I picked next time in FFXIV or DCU Online, but they will be rooted in the center of the alphabet and be uncommon names.

People who enjoying helping other people all congregate in a few linkshells; they band together for self-protection against leeches--those who like to use other people but would not help out others without benefit to themselves.

You can find out who likes to help out others by... helping out others. The ones who actively try to reciprocate will be easy enough to spot. (Only will be a few. lol.) The alternative, of course, is to make your own LS better, by converting the members into people who like to help others.

I was told by an old-timer that it used to update more often, but that made something unstable. My guess is that the computation for those stupid bars was hosing the server somehow, so they nerfed the update rate for everything, never mind that most people only care about the sword icons. The only other thing you can do is sit back in the city and watch the messages for beastmen dispatches, but those are usually about 5 minutes ahead. (Or you could just get lucky. Yesterday I went to Glacier_S because I saw two people from the LS there. They were probably farming something, but I arrived about 60 seconds before a battle started. And it was a good fun battle. We made the bar move, but it was an hour before tally.)

        4) Why the tele point is so far from the battle in some areas?
It just is. But that's an old gripe. The new gripe is why the union coffer spawns, though fixed, seem to have been chosen randomly. In some areas it's by the defensive battle NPC, and in other areas it's on the opposite side of the tower. And then there's Eldieme, where the doors close at the end of the battle, and there is NO switch for you to let people out to open their coffers. Even more fun is if they get stuck back there with no mage to warp them out.

        5) I usually try to first go to a battle where I can buy a reraise, but sometimes it's not possible. And, inevitably, when you don't have reraise, you will die and likely lie there for 20 minutes as mages with light staves repeadedly trample over your rotting corpse. Why are some people so inconsiderate that they won't even raise you for 60exp?
Well, first of all, have you considered that they might have no MP left? Second, refer to the number one peeve in this thread: people.

When I used to do campaign as WHM, I constantly raised people. One time, after being stepped on repeatedly by a RDM who wouldn't raise me, I asked him why the hell he didn't raise me, and he said, "can't you see I'm rdm/drk and came here to DD and not raise people?" What an inconsiderate ass.
I have noticed that the people who are asses tend to love RDM. I've seen a lot of RDMs with attitude problems.

Then there was the time I died right next to the tags NPC, and laid there after the battle ended... the last 3 guys to tele out were all mages and didn't bother to raise me.
Then your server sucks. On Fairy at least, people do try to make sure everyone they can find has a raise dropped on them, before warping out.

        6) And what the heck's up with Fortifications now? You hit on the fortification for like 20 minutes and get like 50 exp. They should at least make it worth our while.
Where have you been for the past six months? That nerf was from the previous major update. And it's stupid.

The problem was that due to the level design of the three dungeon zones, you could usually bang on the forts all day, and the enemy forces would never come near enough to you to aggro. You only had to check every 15 minutes or so to /attack if a new battle started. (I'm sure people had Windower stuff to make it completely automatic.) And people did, especially when Eldieme was under beastmen control, and battles could last for an hour or two. SE had a problem with people getting so much AFK XP (still much less than all but the crappiest meripo party), but they "fixed" it by nerfing XP on all forts, rather than fixing the zones or the mob pathing in those zones.

Actually "nerfing" isn't strong enough, "feathered" is probably more accurate, because of how little XP you get. Maybe they realized that the union drops thingy would have been significantly unbalanced by fort banging, since now you can't even get the 300xp you need to qualify to lot if you arrive after the enemy has already come and gone.

I know it was changed a while ago. But it seems like it's worse now. I've been around the past 6 months, but hadn't been doing campaign much because I was kind of burned out on it. When I recently started doing campaigns again, it seemed like they made it even harder to get any exp from fortifications. Like you said, probably happened when they added Unions.

            Brown Treasure Chest drop rates.
I've been farming one zone for a r/e for five nights in a row now and I've only had 14 brown chests show up for even the chance of getting the r/e item. Are all r/e items this frustrating to farm/camp for or does it get better with time somehow?

I'm afraid its the same no matter what R/Ex item you are trying to get. Unless its a 100% drop rate. Every item has a set % chance to drop. So an item with a 24% chance to drop should give you 24/100 but it always wont. It just means that you have a 24% chance of obtaining the item. Thats not including the chance to get the brown casket drop.

I was after the R/Ex pants that drop in the dunes for my Drk as I was lving it, and other Dd jobs. It finally dropped but, not on the one I wanted it to, and after I was out of the dunes. It dropped on my Dnc. Sure, I could use it with my Drk if we have a Sch present and is willing to keep the fire weather effect one me, but other than that its useless. What item are you trying to get anyways?

Trying to get Rambler's Gaiters from Rolanberry. I don't think I'd mind going 5 nights without getting them if the chests were dropping a little more frequently to keep my hope alive.

A recent peeve for me: Yuhtunga Jungle FoV page 4. Four sahagin, six makara. What's the problem? The problem is that those are over by the Norg entrance, and it has one-way paths to get in and out of there. I've checked wiki, and the nearest book seems to be at F-9, which is not in the sahagin area. In other words, you have to do a long one-way walk to get to the book, then back to the camp.

Also, Astral Burn pullers who take way too long to pull... in FoV areas. I was going to level on Yuhtunga page 2 (gobs and bees), since it sucks less than the others, and as I brought my choco in, I saw a train of crawlers, opos, and bees behind an /anon RDM. So I followed the RDM for the hell of it. Half an hour later the pull was finished... after my choco had given up, and even after the RDM's Protect had worn off. There was just way too much random backtracking. If I had wanted to level, I would have been SOL from the lack of bees or opos. And they were doing this all afternoon. At one point about three hours later I had trouble finding bees. But I guess if your puller is slow, you have a better chance of your 2hr resetting. (roll eyes)

Then it must be the influx of people who didn't play campaign before the union stuff and are in it just for the treasure. After all, if you don't raise someone when the battle is over, they can't lot against you. It also may have to do with which nation's battles you are playing in. I tend to stick to Windurst defensive areas whenever possible, and sometimes Grauberg and Jugner when they're up.

Thanks, SE, for encouraging cutthroat play in campaign. (roll eyes)

At least twice, I have gotten the rare/ex item in two consecutive brown chests. Anyhow, be sure to watch the kupowers lists for where to go farming chests. When Mystery Boxes is active, it seems like you get at least a blue chest every other kill. But maybe that was just when I was on THF.

You want to know what's useless? This: Desperado Ring - WHM/BLM/RDM/PLD/DRK/SMN/BLU/SCH only. Latent gives you +5 attack... when your MP is at less than 5%. Might be useful for PLD, DRK, and BLU, but +attack for a mage job? That's pretty lame. About the only justification I can see is that at level 9, a mage might still be beating on things with sticks.

What did it for me was that I was solo leveling there, doing FoV page 3 because I was concentrating on farming crawlers for silk. If I can't get fast XP solo, I can at least try to farm.

Yup, I recently started subbing Thief while farming one of the two level grub gardens so that I can at least make some money for spells while I'm trying to get the boots. Right now Sandy mystery boxes is up, so I don't think that's helping my situation out too much. I guess all I can do is keep farming and hope Bastok mystery boxes goes up next week when the Super Kupowers switch

You don't need to fight long enough to shave off an entire hit's worth of delay for Haste to do its job, and any DD should be getting Hasted which is already 15% and that's more than enough to make 1-2 Haste pieces very much worth it unless 1 of them is a lolBlitz Ring.

Blitz Rings are for when you have asinine amounts of Haste to the point that 1% makes a shitload of difference. I don't think DRKs can cap Equipment haste so it's more or less for that.

Nope, that doesn't work. You still need your MP for buffs, if you have any mage job other than BLM on you. Also, 5% MP means if you have 1000MP, you have to be down to 50MP or less. Cure III is 46MP. Stoneskin is 29MP. I don't like to be below 100-200 when I'm meleeing as WHM or BLM/WHM.
