Yeah, our LS leader is like that lol social butterfly. She's double MT'd at me quite a few times on accident and we always get a big lol out of it.

I'm going to nitpick because I feel your stance is not very forgiving for new players.

They shouldn't necessarily, but basic communication tools should be available in a game that is designed to be party-centric.

Most of us never had the option of trying the game out before we bought it, We just took the risk when we purchased it that it's be a good game which we'd like.
On the other hand, I never would have jumped in on this game without a friend convincing me to try the trial version first. It helped me overcome my aversion to subscription based gaming.

It's not as if restricting the /t's hurts them they still have a method to comunicate.
I call bullshit on this. How do I contact a friend(or any player really) who's in a different zone?

unless you're a cybering manthra / cecil privacy shouldn't be much of an issue, There's stil /l and /p to chat in also.
This assumes one can find a party without the use of /tell. For a new player they'll most likely find a LS by first partying with people. See where this is going?

In Rl you wouldnt walk up to somebody then drag them into a corner to talk, you'd normally speak in front of people and be overheard by some others.
No, but neither would you constantly shout across a room all the time, which is what I believe you suggested as an alternative to /tell, correct me if I misread that. Also: using /sh is usually considered rude except in very specific circumstances.

It's not like it'd be restricting them purchasing items or changing equipment. It'd just restrict the direct txt assaults we recieve as we try to enjoy the game we pay for.
Or make it so they can only respond to /t's they recieve. In fact having a button to respond to the last recieved /t I'd like personally. Especially with names that are stressful to type. (If there's something like that already I apologise I dont know about it)
I'm fine with restricting /tells if you can find a way to make it nail only the RMTs, but if it affects legit players in any way I'll be viciously opposed to it.

He means in a manner similar to WoW's trial. You can only send tells if someone sends you one first, or to people on your friendlist.

You'd still be able to get party invites this way. It's not terribly restrictive. Random newbies don't ask for help in tell, they shout in starter towns, or chat in say by the AH or something. I don't think I sent my first tell for weeks after I'd started playing the game.

Trial players won't miss it that much, and other games have much more restrictive limits for trial accounts. Limiting tells for trial accounts so that they can only send a tell to someone who tells them first would eliminate RMT spam tells completely.

          - A level cap of 20.
          - A maximum of 10 gold.
          - Trade skills are capped at 100 ranks.
          - Inability to trade via the auction house, mailbox, or player-to-player.
          - In-Game public chat channels will be unavailable. (Players will still be able to communicate using say, party, or whispers).
          - Characters will be unable to create or join existing guilds.
          - Accounts will no longer be able to whisper other players unless they have been added to those players' friends lists or have received a whisper from them first.
          - Characters will not be able to invite players into a party.
          - Characters will not be able to join parties with other players above level 20.
          - Voice Chat is disabled on trial accounts.
          - Realms with login queues will give priority to customers with retail accounts.
          - Will not be eligible for any Character Transfer service.

These are the restrictions on a WoW trial account. Seems like they have the trial account abuse thing covered.

I'm going to have to simply settle for disagreeing with some of you because to be quite frank: you're not new players anymore and haven't been for years.

If SE could figure out a way to block all the rmt chatter then everybody would say "Hay if SE can pick out the humans from the non-humans, why do we even have rmt to begin with?"

I think this would probably be the best alternative to it all. In the same boat as that, in the starter cities there are plenty of newbies that ask questions in say or shout to one person who is talking to them, because they don't know any better. I mean its one thing to say "Hey does anybody know where the gate guard is?" and when somebody sends back an answer they can go about their way, than it is to hold a conversation in say with one person when they could be sending tells and not filling up the chat logs.

Just because I'm not a DRK doesn't mean I don't know what they do in a party or how they gear.

Just because I'm not a new player doesn't mean I can't say what would affect them. The only time a new player wants to send someone a tell is if they already know someone from the game, and chances are, they'd add that person to their friend list so they could talk to them anyway.

I do think the trial was a great idea I bought a couple of friends to the game. We have a mentor system which never seems to be used by the newer players, Legitimate players could search for a mentor for help. With the mentor opening conversation via /t it would give the newbie the chance to ask for guidance.
I'm not saying newbies should be penalised as such just restricted 14 days really isnt that long of a time so the lack of freely sending /t's can't really affect the game that much can it?
It's sad that Rmt can frustrate the community so much. My suggestions are extreme in some cases I guess.
It's sad that people actually buy in game things for real money. Without the buyers there'd be nobody to sell to, It's the whole chicken and egg thing.
I do think there should be some limitations on trial accounts there's only so much you can achieve in 14 days anyway.

Ah yes, the Mentor system that I forgot about... See there was this one guy that asked me to show him how to play and as I was doing such, something happened I forget what, and he ended up getting killed by a Orc...I think one orc came and I voked it, but a second orc came at him and he got double critted and was dead in two hits so I couldn't help him because of weapon delay he then immediately logged off without saying anything.

I think this would cause new linkshells to spring up and old linkshells to get new members so they'll have people to talk to. Hell I got recruited my second day in the game I was minding my own business and my linkshell leader saw me without a pearl and tossed me one. Me not knowing she was the leader and then I'm like O SHIT YOU'RE THE LEAD DOOD!!!! Because she was playing on her low level mule character lol.

Have you tried it lately? They've got a new canned response for it, you just put enter "rmt /tell from ewaghlhesag" as th reason and you should get the canned response.
With the recent gardening bannings it shows that people can be banned for any reason they choose if it flags what they seem as wrong, I'm sure it can be applied to chats also and pick up on anything resembling an advert.
And if you'll notice, they stopped the bannings and replaced them with a gimp of gardening if your character hasn't been around for NINETY DAYS as a full account. That means if a real player wants a gardening mule, tough luck, you gotta wait 3 months.

So why do people think that cutting off trial account tells would be an all-or-nothing thing?

It's not merely that they are using tells, it's that they are using them constantly at a rate that no human would (not even in a hypothetical conversation with 5 people), and never to the same person. And also presumably from the moment they sign on the mule. They're obviously sending them with a bot script as fast as possible. There should be some way that SE could come up with to automatically limit tells that hurts bots but not real players. But SE has consistently showed a lack of imagination in gimping things to be RMT-proof.

And I'm tired of arguing this all over again, so I'll stop there.

But seriously, this whole "completely free trial account" thing was just begging to be abused from the start.

I stopped reporting the tells once the GM told me to log off I just try to ignore them now,
As for me mentioning the gardening bannings I used it as an example of how SE can monitor specific movements a player makes. like any message resembling the brosale/brogame advert tells could get grabbed by whatever system and never reach the recipient, Which in result freezes whoever sent it's account while they are banned or investigated,
It's entirely possible. keyloggers work with stealing our passwords and such why not have one that protects us.
Other than that I'd prefer an option to only recieve /t's from friends and Ls people.

Anyway my peeve for today is. Muling. I hate having to swap gear from character to character. It takes so long and you can only do 8 pieces at at time it's so annoying /throat

Actually, if you limit the number of /tells a character can send (or the speed they can send at), the RMTs will just go as fast as they're able and use as many trial accounts as they need to get the job done...

Pretty much. They'll just find a way around it.

The trial accounts were a way for the RMT to spam people for free, if these changes were implemented, if they want to spam people, they have to actually spend $12.95.

Astral Flow Burns were going well yesterday, until another party decided to royally screw with us. They waited till we had the mobs trained in Korr. Tunnel, then unleashed a Blizzaga on our mobs. Called a GM for interference and harrassment, GM said he would watch them, and agreed there are plenty of mobs for two parties in Korr. Tunnel doing AF burns. We {Wild Card} and come back, tell GM our pullers name so he can watch the offender mess with our puller. Well, our puller comes back 30 min later with our mobs, we begin, then the jerk comes by again, kills our mobs. The jerk's PT leader is cool and so are most of the others (I've done this with them as well), but this one guy is a total creep. I told the leader that he needs to watch out who he's inviting to burns b/c he's ruining it for everyone. Guy just laughs at me. I wish people weren't so selfish. Sometimes I forget I'm playing with 10 year olds who don't care if they waste half your night + 2hrs + 60k xp

LMAO you should've put a GM call in about that GM because that was stupid. I once called a GM on a guy in Jeuno shouting racial slurs and cursing in shout. Even after somebody shouted back to him, "You'd better chill out before somebody calls a GM on you." To which he replied with a shout "So what? IDGAF, FFS." GM just told me that they'd review his chat logs and for me to blacklist him for the time being.
