Oh please. Let the tank die? Now you're just grasping at straws. You're making it sound like you're BEGINNING with fight with 40 MP. If that's what's going on, what are you doing? It's clear you can't support the party as it exists then.

Snarl plants hate on an NPC. That's none of your concern. Every stray hit that hits the pet as opposed to the tank is less HP you have to be healing, and less MP you have to be using. Trick Attack planting hate on the tank does not affect you whatsoever? I thought you were just talking about needing MP or else he'll "die".

For myself, I consider a 3-haste rotation easy unless there's an exceptional healing load, and 4-haste not difficult if I'm not always having to interrupt resting to cure ... I wouldn't have a problem hasting somebody who doesn't tend to leap over the hate line all the time. It's the suicidal types (and not just DRK, but a DRK/WAR using Berserk/Last Resort/Souleater is at the top of the list) that I tend to drop off my haste rotation.

These stupid chests... Be they blue or brown, I'm sick of em.... .. . .

I just got my Thf to 46 finally. Loving TH2 all the way except... WtF is up with getting more mobs that drop these worthless chests than mobs that actually drop the items I'm farming?? At first I thought it must be the super-KupoPowers that were making their drop-rates so exceptional; but, now that it's gone, I'm still getting tons more chest-drops than item-drops. I learned after unlocking my 2nd chest to recieve my 3rd Chocobo feather, they are a total waste of my time. I cannot say this for certain; but, it seems to me so far that a mob is less likely to drop it's regular items if it yields one of these worthless chests. Maybe it'd be a little better if when you opened the chest, there was also items that actually drop from the mob along with the lil bonus. I can count on one hand the times these chests have given me anything worthwhile. Even some of the Rare/ex drops are really really "bleh" (i.e. Konschtat, Buburima)

... BUT... Maybe that's what SE wants... a consistent cock block for farmers disguised cleverly as booty.

How about: THF SATAs BST instead, BST Snarls, Tank doesn't get hit as much while pet is being wailed on, WHM doesn't need to Cure the Tank as often?

In an ideal party every DD would get their precious Haste but the fact of the matter is that in a regular XP party it is simply too inefficient to spend MP hastening low delay DDs especially if the BRD is giving double March. The average pick up group wastes a healer's MP constantly because they don't have the support to keep the healer going for huge chains.
Thing is, Haste affects low Delays and high Delays equally. Using two-hander vs one-hander as the priority criteria is flawed; ideally you'd Haste the top DDs regardless of what kind of weapon they're using, since 15% more DoT to someone outputting high damage is worth more than 15% more to someone that's outputting low damage. But that too can lead to troubles in situations where there's an actual tank, since you may just be making it harder for the tank to hold hate. Unless the DD is wise and knows how to not be an MP sponge, you may actually be shooting yourself in the foot.

And like Itazura said, what Ketaru meant is that BST alleviates the healer's load by pulling hate and then planting hate on the pet, which means the mob is wasting attack rounds on a replaceable party "member" that you don't need to spend MP on to heal. For every 200 HP the BST redirects to a jug pet, he's saving you a Cure III, and that already covers his Haste cost.

As for items you do want from the chests though, you must admit after your 50th brown, you get very good at opening them. Nice for later in Ro'Maeve when you're searching for 2 weeks for Diana Corona, but get your 10th something that's worth about 5K.

I honestly don't mind Blue chests too much when I'm farming. If I happen to be farming something that at least checks EP to me so that I may also get exp out of the deal (usually what I end up doing), the various medicines can save me the time I would be wasting by resting. And doing a self SC+MB with a Daedalus Wing is always fun; I even added a macro which is basically just /item "Daedalus Wing" <me>.

I get annoyed when people just leave Brown chests lying around, especially when it very well may contain something I want. Just annoys me to see stuff going to waste like that. Blue chests ... meh. Often they'll give me crap like silent oils in starter areas. -.-

Gotta say those ethers are wonderful when I'm level sync duoing with my mule.

Don't know if this is what you do or not, but a strategy somebody told me was, once is:

If you narrow the possibilities down to 30 possibilites or less within your first 2 clues, start guessing (well, 30 possibilities is still kinda high, but that's the worst case cutoff point).
So in your case, it would've been like.
                        "The first number is 2."
Just immediately guess 25. It will tell you higher or lower, then start narrowing it down. 25, then 22/28 depending on if its higher or lower, so what you're left with for your last guess is 20-21 or 26-27 if lower, or 23-24 or 28-29 if higher.

Although, with that example, "The first number is 2" is a pretty friendly clue to begin with. So by the 4th guess, you have a 50% chance of getting it right. Right off the bat, you only had 10 possible numbers.

Yeah, I'm just saying, sometimes their hints are shitty. Typically if I get that first clue I won't examine again, especially with only 4 attempts. With six, I'll usually examine twice, just to see if I get a good clue about the second number. So the useless ones do sometimes come into play.

Who am I kidding though, they don't drop for me, only the people who leave them sitting around in zones.

If you had four clues and the first one was "the first number is 2," I would just put in 25 right away. Worst case scenario, the next two guesses are wrong, and I'm left in a 50/50 chance scenario.

Doesn't mean that they can't absolutely suck (and do so with annoying frequency): "The first digit is either a 4, 5, or 6," "The first digit is even," "The second digit is odd."

I don't know why people don't try to open them. They could potentially have gil item sto sell in them if people are low man grouping or soloing.

In parties, it is marginally more understandable since the logic is to keep the chain going. Still, for just 45 seconds to 1 minute out of the parties time every maybe half an hour, could've saved somebody in that party 2 days of casket camping...kind of like me when I was leveling PLD in Sauromugue Champaign and we found a brown, but leader said don't bother! 2 days of casket farming for Herder's Subligar...

Yeah I'm pretty sure I never actually had that one, YM, was just an example to illustrate how annoying clues can be.

And for opening them in parties ... I did it when I was on bard pulling in Qufim. There was very little to do after I sang my two songs to the melees, save for a cure or two, that couldn't be done between guesses. There are some jobs that can get away with it between spells or whatnot, especially at lower levels.
