I hate macro casting, too, which is why every spell I do is typed. That way, the person's name is typed out and I cast directly on them without ever needing to target them to begin with. Blink to your heart's content, it won't affect me.

I use a mix. WS usually comes off the menu. Offensive spells (especially BLM nukes with staff swaps) in macros. Standard defensive buffs (blink, stoneskin) in macros, but I usually type them. Uncommonly used spells like Raise and Reraise can also go either way.

But when I'm in a serious battle, I type most of my spells, using <p1> - <p5> to select people, and <bt> to select the mob. The spells take long enough that I'm typing faster than I can cast, and unlike the menus, there's a consistent number of ESC hits needed to get out of the command line and the macro bar.

One of the reasons is a peeve of mine. When you're in /attack mode, and you exit from a submenu (like Magic) to the main attack menu, there is a finite period of time (like half a second) where the L2/R2 buttons for the macro bar do not work. When I'm already lost in menus, this delay just makes it worse. There is no such delay when typing commands.

Anyway, it's not like I'm WSing or using a bunch of JAs to pull hate and then blinking over and over again, keeping the healers from healing me. I'm just doing my job. TP, WS, Jump, High Jump, etc. I can't help it that I hit things really hard (for a Taru). I even hold back if the healers complain. But again, coming from the perspective of someone who has healed many, many, many times, I just don't see the problem with keeping me targeted.

Current pet peeve as of today: Dark Spore

I've been doing pages in Zi'Tah, fighting Myxomycetes, and my god, if they get off a Dark Spore early enough into the fight it's like just...ugh. I can't wait to get my AF Helm. ><;

How do you deal with gear swaps?

For melee jobs I still use macros because it's more convenient, but for WHM RDM and BLM it's so much easier to just type what I want to do and when, and spellcast recognizes the spell I'm casting (based on my personal xml file) and changes my gear accordingly. If only SE would have put something this amazing in the game to begin with.

I use BlinkMeNot instead. It feels less like cheating to me. Though it's not perfect, it does have the added feature of preserving skillchain and additional effect damage in the log when people would have blinked.

It's spellcasting, there's a lot less gear swap. When swaps are needed (mainly BLM nukes), that's what macros are for. I don't need gear swaps for stoneskin and blink and reraise. And I really don't need them to throw protects and cures and regens and debuff removers either. And those are the spells I type.

Considering how much of a gear swap maniac I am, the lack of SE's response to requests to increase the number of macro lines (for gear at least), and the annoyance of not being able to use the official windower to switch between full screen and windowed modes...

I'm starting to seriously consider getting the windower and that macro plug-in or whatever it is. I simply hit the limit of what macros can do and macroset commands are too laggy for me to use them effectively.


(Would skip distance, mp/tp and all the other features though.)


I don't know, I'm still hoping SE would surprise... But who am I kidding, it's not going to happen.

I'm in an LS with my parents, and honestly, they are some of the biggest perpetrators of the previous peeve but certainly not the only ones. What they are mainly responsible for is this one.

YES, this is a cooperative game. I like to group for many activities. Duos are fun. I enjoy hanging out with a friend to do things together. But I don't need to group up with you guys for everything. My play time is limited. I don't always feel like dropping everything in order to go with a group of 75s to get Kazham Keys for a new guy to the LS, or subjob items or something. I want to EXP on my DRG! I want to make money! I want to accomplish some of my own goals, while still taking time here and there to help others achieve theirs. If I'm needed, then I am absolutely going to be there. But if you just want me to come along because you want as many people as possible for no discernible reason, than I'd really rather burn through my EXP charge I just used.

My pet peeve is this at the moment. But something like this happened with my bf rather than me. My bf wanted to party with me than go to a event that we both needed. Though i gotta say the sacarium(sp?) was scheduled after doing a riverne B01 at 7est, i couldnt attend the event because it was too late for me and it takes them more than an hour to do it so i partied instead since there was no point in going only to run out of time. Ls leader changes her mind to sarcarium at 7est since the people who needed B01 weren't on i geuss and me and my bf are doing great in the party. She calls for people to go do the event and all because my bf wanted to carry on doing with the party till i leave she decided that he now banned from all events. It was the first time he refused to do events (our time to party is limited as it is).

If he plain out refused not to go to multiple events then fair enough, but i know people who pop in and out of ls just for events, refuse to go to events cos they rather do something else, etc in ls and still are able to carry on with the missions with the rest of the group. He's stayed by the ls through thick and thin and then this happens >.<

She was thinking of adding a point system for CoP events which i'm unsure about. Any other ls do this?

Also about gearswaps, whens the best time to start using gearswaps? and what stats would you swap in for ws? (prolly not best place to add it and i know i sound like a noob lol)

Why would you have a point system for CoP? Either you finish the missions or you don't. What the hell would be the purpose of the points? It's not like there are any drops.

I'd say 50's is probably a good time to start gearswapping, from my experience. I could go on and on about it, but it doesn't exactly fit in this thread, and it's 3:30 AM.

That's what i was wondering but its something she had been thinking about to get people to come or help out with the events. Probably wont get any help when it comes to you wanting help with something. We dont even do dynamis or anything like that yet, it was originally a social ls that is changing and spreading to do stuff like sky, dynamis and the like.

I've been with the ls over a year now and have been very happy with it, I've made alot of friends, we'd go through the missions with no problem most of the time but recently there has been alot of bullshit happening. The leader has added rules that no one has heard of, my bf being banned from all events for not coming to 1 is just one of them. She has had abit of an attitude of late stressing about CoP (which i guess in understandable), I remember when farming feathers for mistmelts she died once and started alot of abuse about how everyone is shit for letting her die and that she should of expected it from us. She seems to think that everything is on her shoulders as leader even though people have said they'd take the strain by helping while she goes do something else,etc.

I have left ls, I may end up going back once I've cooled down abit since i miss everyone already lol

But last night was just the straw that broke the camels back

Ah. Well, I'm a RDM. I have a lot of situational gear, so swaps really help.

I am on the 360, so I can't use things like Spellcast or whatever. I would like to switch back over to the PC, but honestly, I am a little bothered that stuff like that is now being considered the standard. Like "Silly Murphie, just type your spells out, and the program that you put all of your info into earlier will do the rest." I was beginning to wonder if I was doing something wrong, but I'm not. I'm just working within the constraints of the software I'm using.

I'm currectly levelling blue and its expected for me to carry round lots of sets of gear, I've got a least 3 sets that I full time so I blink like a christmas tree all the time. but then again if healers have a problem with that i can just pop a magic fruit and heal myself if it comes down to that.

But that would involve me getting in a damn party. I was off work yesterday and the gf/baby were round at her mates house. full day of xp 12k (didnt use a band) pathetic imo. between level 74s killin the colibri I was targeting outside al zabi. No mobs turning up in campaign or no npcs turning up to help, a 65 blu cant kill them all lol and missing the only party invite I got all day because I went to the toilet.

I did waste some time nipping to whitegate to shout/beg for help with my blue mage spells which no one answers. I'm going to have to hire mercs at this rate. Wish id been on with the blu fad was active bet it was easy to learn all the spells when blue first came out.
