Re: What's your pet peeve in FFXI?
I wanna share stories too!
I have had Cable t.v. and internet with the famed TWC (formerly Comcast) for 5+ years now. Believe it or not my service has been really decent and my internet connection has been very good.
About 3 months ago 1 of the 2 set top boxes stopped allowing us to use the On-Demand feature (I love On-Demand). So I call them up and we go through the whole reseting the box process. This consists of me unplugging the power, waiting 30 seconds, plugging it back in, and waiting for thebox to boot up again. They also tried resending programming from their end, whatever that consists of. Neither of those worked so I took the box to the local office and swapped it out. Which is nice since it's about 5 city blocks from my house, though I learned never to go after work, long ass line. I get home plug in the new box, and it works great.
So then about a month after that I started having an issue with my other set top box not showing certain channels. Phone Support and I try the reset procdure, no luck. They resend programming from their end, no luck. Once again I take it in, on my lunch hour this time, for a much shorter wait time, and swap it out. I get home and the same channels won't display.
So I call Phone support again and we both come to the conclusion the cable from the wall to the box most likely has an issue. I go to the Fry's store (a large electronics/appliance store, the real life equivelant of Outpost.com), buy a coax cable, connect it to the box, and now I have even less channels. At this point I give up and I called to setup an appointment for a home visit. The tech guy shows up and says the quality of store bought coax cables are crap, plugs in a cable from his truck and voila we have all the channels! I felt so dumb.
TL,DR version: I fail at troubleshooting cable television. Just to throw my two cents in, I had DSL about 7-8 years ago and I hated it. I'm sure they have made some improvements since that time, but for now I will go with cable over DSL.
