        • Re: What's your pet peeve in FFXI?

The reason I am picky is simple: between scheduled events, camps, and making time to farm, I don't have enough time to spend meriting that I will take any old party. I want to go out for three hours, get 6-8 merits, and be done with it for a while. Getting a slow party just feels like a huge waste of my limited time. Granted, I don't merit much anymore because the quality of parties you get on Hades is atrocious, but I absolutely WILL NOT party without a BRD, WILL NOT party with DDs who can't at the very least swap gear from TP to WS, and I WILL NOT party with the following jobs in merit: SMN, BLM, PUP (unless you have Usukane, even then it's a risk), SCH, and BST. Typically these jobs can not perform in merit parties. (SCH can, for sure, but not when I'm already there healing. Waste of a spot.)

Elitist? Yes. Perfectly okay with being labeled as such. But we all have our ideas of what is fun and what is not, and slow parties are not fun to me at all. So I do check gear when I join a party, and I do make sure the setup is acceptable before I join (on the random chance I do join a pickup, which is almost never), and if the leader doesn't like that I'm picky and/or the party isn't up to my standards, there are 6 zillion other RDMs he can choose from, and I'll go find something else to do that doesn't end up making me want to bash my head into a brick wall.

I can see why it's frustrating to those who are not picky, and who may not get frequent invites due to job/gear choices/times they seek/whatever, but meriting is something I take seriously when I set out to do it, and I want to do it the fast easy and fun way.

My take on it is there are plenty of people looking for merits at any given point in time, and people will get what they want in terms of merits eventually if they seek long enough.

:x Never know unless you try, made a random half ls half pick meripo as dd rdm after dyna once, no bard and we got a chain 33 lost it then a chain 55 with only a sch, dd rdm, 3 drg and a dd geared pld. Pretty acceptable considering to me, wasn't slow paced and could rival a 'normal' brd meripo. Just gotta be willing to take risks :<

I know the feeling on time for it, given I spend my afternoon either lfp, soro, doing something random. But being picky usually makes things feel slow for me, unless they're complete morons and can't learn to read, then I follow notes from the elitist book. Though, I have a feeling, we won't be compatible in a merit pty if we were on the same server :< Considering getting 3-4 merits in a pty or recap exp with 2+ merits is a job well done for me.

Also, I'm gonna have to kill the officer in the hnmls I'm in... seeing him type ':<' got me addicted to using it myself ~.~

Eh, another pet peeve I suppose: BLM or SCH low-level solo. I'm finding it to be rather boring, and for the most part, rather unrewarding as well (the only benefit being that I avoid the parties of idiots so often complained about in here). I should probably just join a pickup group, even if having taken a break from FFXI for about half a year has me worried I might not do well... or that my fears about the quality of parties turns out to be true and thus a bit of a waste of time

If I get 3-4 merits in a party, I nearly shit my pants! You want to talk about LIMITED TIME TO PLAY, I'm the poster person for it. I still take pick up pt's and if its a nasty one I play for an hour and then tell them I have to leave. (During that hour I'm scanning for replacements every minute! LOL) I've left pts and put my seek back up and then had someone from the pt msg me pissed. I gently explain that I didn't leave right away, tried to find a replacement (usually succeed), but after an hour the party didn't "gel" and it was time to move on. It usually leads to a civil conversation but there are times you run into asshats and thats what the blist is for. But ya, I usually take any pt that invites me, I do not look at peoples equips, I do not watch to make sure they gear swap, and I will party in unconventional parties...i.e. parties with other than certain dd's, a healer, and a brd. But I do have a one hour rule! lol

Been a while since it had happened, but I figure that it is better to elaborate late than never. I'll try to keep it as short as possible.

Was Paladin in a Garliage Citadel Party. The Party as a whole was sucking just a bit. Party wanted a scapegoat. My lack of /WAR was it.

I didn't post this before for obvious reasons, as I am well aware that "I have no business being a Paladin without /WAR" or whatever you all want to flame me with, but honestly, I knew what I was getting in to well before I started. That party (which as I said, was sucking as a whole anyway) was the first one to actually kick me out due to a lack of Provoke, but there were others in the past that had intentionally invited a DD/WAR to Provoke over me purely to insult me. Either way, I'm 5 levels away from completing this as a sub, so when I have time (and am done with this event and some farming) I'll be hitting the Rolanberry Fields of Valor.

Anyway, new Peeve: Augments. I can't speak for the Corsair population of FFXI, but honestly, when I chase after gear, I'm not going to chase after gear with stats that are ultimately a gamble. Spontaneity may be a good thing in some cases, but in gear rewards, it all just bugs me. And don't tell me about this or that Augments system versus the other one, so far as I know the only method in the game that exists to choose your augments are the ACP reward bodies (which, by stark contrast, are actually pretty nice).

                        • Re: What's your pet peeve in FFXI?

Tried to solo on SCH the way that BLMs do to get to 30, figured it would save me the headache of being asked to mainheal a party without Cure 3 and only one strategem charge...yeah, not so much.

I left Sandy at 1am. After getting to Souther San d'Oria (S) I realized that I had meant to go to Ranguemont Pass and had accidentally taken the maw out of habit. Went back to East Ronf, grabbed Refresh and Reraise from the FoV book, and headed to Ranguemont. After getting behind the door, I realized I was on my 37 WHM and not my 22 SCH from when I had changed to Viruna myself after getting to town. Awesome.

After walking back to Sandy and changing jobs, I walked back out to the FoV book, grabbed RR/Refresh again, and headed back to the pass. After getting past the door again, I realized that I had no Prism Powders left, and I was 3 levels shy of Invisible. I caught aggro trying to get out, died, and had to HP.

After grabbing powders and grabbing RR and Refresh yet again, I came back out. Yet again. I get to camp, and of course no BST goblin is popped, instead there's a RNG and a THF. I drag my alternate character out to kill the gobs, and wait 16 minutes for one to respawn as BST.

Except they respawn as RNG + WAR again.

                          And again.

                          And again.

And-oh wait, not a 4th time! No, 4th time they respawned as RNG + BLM.

Finally, at 3am, 2 hours after I initially left Sandy to start soloing, the fifth round one spawns as BST, and I finally can get started! My opening Blizzard gets a 1/2 resist. As does my Bind. As does my 2nd Blizzard. My Fire goes fully unresisted, but after that I'm dead. I reraise up and start to rest off the sickness. After 4 minutes goes by I really have to go to the bathroom, so I put up a fresh Sneak, pop a fresh Melon Pie+1, go back to resting, and go for a quick toilet run.

I come back 70 seconds later to my dead body. Sneak lasted a whopping 45 seconds, and a Stirge managed to kill me 12 seconds after I unweakened. HP #2.

So in 2 hours and 15 minutes of solo XP I made a solid -1.250. Nice.

That is exactly why I never use Bind while soloing on BLM or SCH unless the timer for Sleep isn't up yet. All it's really useful for is re-applying sleep without getting your face caved in.

And SCH has no MAB so it can't really kill the same mobs a BLM would be able to at the same level

Eh, I actually have found Bind to be fairly useful, to be honest. Unlike Sleep, casting on the mob seems to not break the effect, allowing you to potentially get more spells in. That said, it doesn't last as long though. Resistance, in my experience, seems to be a bit less than Sleep too.

Oh, and to note... Sardia? SCH22 doesn't have Sleep yet. Bind is the only thing he could work off of, unless if I'm forgetting something or if you have a better strategy in mind. Wouldn't mind hearing if you did, especially since I'm going to have to struggle through this myself.

Anyways, feel your pain Callisto. Not quite at the level you are, SCH15, but I'm not looking forward to trying to struggle to bring it up to 18 or 37. In many ways, SCH feels like a weak BLM... or maybe WHM, but feels more like a BLM to me. It likely gets better as time goes on, but... low levels seem to be a pain

That said... I'd suggest trying to seek while as SCH/BLM. Perhaps that might convince people to not have you main heal and instead let you sit back and nuke and... yeah, nuke. Maybe enfeeble from your BLM sub, but that isn't too much =\

Alternatively, you could always solo with an NPC. Just set your adventuring fellow to the tank mode and... make sure you can take some hits, cause the NPC doesn't always provoke. It can work fairly well, especially if your NPC bond is high. Just... watch out for them warping mid-battle >.>

At early levels (pre-40) all you want to do is nuke because you can't support an entire party by yourself. In the mid levels, (41-59ish) you can do both effectively, switching between Light and Dark. 60+, you will want to only main heal, because there's nothing you xp on that will allow you to nuke. And there's the problem that no one wants to invite SCH because of no Haste. So they get a SCH and a WHM, which then of course makes the SCH feel useless, because you can't nuke Colibri, and the WHM can probably handle it.

Leveling SCH 66+ has been a huge pain in the ass for me so far. I don't want to campaign/besieged it, but the levels haven't flowed in the way they did when I leveled WHM, and even soloing BLM. So I feel your pain with the difficulty in leveling SCH. Why not grab a dagger or something and hit some FOV for a while? Every 10(ish) mobs is a free exp bonus. XD
