There is no rush. If you're not willing to take your time, don't be surprised when no one wants to give you much of theirs.

No, its not right but it probably won't be the last time you encounter it.

I definitely know I'll run into this, A LOT, until I start leveling past 40+ again.

                • Re: What's your pet peeve in FFXI?

BRDs who don't reply to invites. I don't know what is with Bards and not replying to invites. Last weekend while forming a party I asked no less than 6 Bards (All seeking) to join the exp party I was forming (At WHM, BLU, PLD, SAM, MNK). The rest of the group were demanding a Bard yet no matter how many I asked I never got a response. If you don't want to exp it's fine, a simple bloody "No Thanks" or "Thanks for the offer but I'll have to pass" will do and I'll send a /tell to someone else. I couldn't fine a COR and so I invited a RDM who replied within seconds of the /tell being sent.

Have Bards been so spoiled by the playerbase that they simply ignore the invites they don't want instead of simply turning down the invite. I've noticed some really spoiled attitudes among Bards lately. One of the most annoying incident recently was one bard spamming "Poisoned poisoned poisoned" (he got too close to an Imp's Poisonga II) in the chatlog despite him being /WHM, me being currently silenced and drinking some echo drops and the PLD being both silenced and literally inches from death because of a link. When I asked him to cure himself since I was trying to stop the PLD from dying (and sleep the second imp that was now pummelling the back of my head) he flipped and started screaming that it was my job to cure him and he should have taken priority instead of the Paladin who is currently silenced and in red HP because "parties can't function without a bard". He also had a go at the party leader (The Paladin ironically) for bringing a WHM to heal instead of a RDM even though I was keeping up with the party just fine without his ballads (Which he stopped casting on me and the PLD after we made him cure his own damn poison). We eventually got sick of the attitude he was giving us and booted this guy and repped him with a RDM. We were tempted to MPK him but we didn't want to risk wiping the party even if it would have been worth it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't a support slot like Bard the least vital part of a party? I mean tanks are vital because just one person is soaking up the hits, healers are vital because the tank needs to be kept healthy to take hits and DDs are vital so that the Healer doesn't run out of MP. Parties can work perfectly fine without Bards. Sure it's nice to have their buffs but are those buffs really as vital to success as having a tank, healer and good DDs? Helpful? Yes. Vital? No because there is always another class that can fit well into the last slot depending on the situation.

I don't know, maybe I've just been running into some truely idiotic Bards lately. I remember one Bard in a Colibri camp who would frequently requiem, elegy and lullaby the birds even though a mimicked Hoarde Lullaby nearly wiped the party (NIN tank + rest of party sleeping = pain). He didn't care of the mimicked enfeebs hit the party either (NIN was tanking so Elegy and Requiem were seriously pissing him off), he'd only say something if he himself was hit by the reflected song and he would let the entire party know until I Erased it...Despite any BRD/WHM at 64 or above having access to it. That there was a BRD who turned up /NIN and was wearing a Vermillion Cloak and MP gear

I'm not attacking Bards in general, heck I can name you six people on my friends list that are Bard main and are pretty much the polar opposite of what I've given you above, it's just the attitude I've seen from some of these people lately is seriously putting me off inviting Bards and just sticking a RDM in the 6th slot which I have come to like a lot lately. WHM/SCH and RDM/BLM on your backline give you access to just about every spell in the game (minus tier 4 nukes, Helixes and ancient magic) which makes it highly versatile and I've never seen any downtime between a well coordinated WHM/RDM duo in the backline. Is it down to a general deterioration in the quality of players on the Kujata server lately or have I just been really unlucky?

Bard's aren't vital to an exp party, but having a good bard in the party means less downtime, faster kills, and more exp.

It REALLY needs to be said again, but if someone casts Bind on an add (a Wight, in this case, which we can't sleep) DON'T FUCKING HIT IT!

Thanks to this idiot, (who was the party leader and a RDM/NIN dual wielding, hey, at least he used Enspells) I died after saving the party's ass by casting Bind on the mob. Someone was like, "Sleep that," and face down, I'm like, "WE CAN'T, WHY THE FUCK DO YOU THINK I CASTED BIND ON IT DIPSHIT?"

Really hate how stupid people can be. I even said IN PARTY CHAT: I am binding this mob, DON'T HIT IT!

                      Fuck man.

Ah, Aks, you just reminded me of something that is sort of a Pet Peeve of mine: I can't help but feel that Bind being "broken" by damage is a myth.

I'll likely start to test it myself tomorrow.

I have a pet peeve but this time its with myself. LOL So I'm in sea with the ls and waiting to see where to go next. There is a taru nin solo'ing an aern and I target him. He's about 1/2 health and the mob is 1/2 health. While I have him targeted and I'm watching, it smacks him around good and he's got like 2% health left. So I rip off a cure 5 and a cure 3 and get him up to snuff again. Then I give him a haste and off we go to pop something. As we are making our way through sea, we kill stuff along the way and while we are killing something, suddenly I'm getting my ass handed to me by the aern. It's claimed so theres nothing anyone can do but cure me.......and cure me........and cure me.........and cure me...... The taru sat down to get hp back and then decided to log instead. Jackass never even thanked me for saving his life either. GDI! I have to stop doing that shit!

/em smacks herself upside the head!

Of all the jobs in FFXI, BRD is one of the most demanding jobs and played correctly, it is also one of the busiest.

That said, BRD also has the bar set lower for it than the rest of the jobs in FFXI.

Also, the lower the server population, the lower the standards set towards a BRD. This allows them to get away with murder, basically. Here on Odin, JPs don't give a damn if you're a BRD, they'll wait for the JP BRDs to start seeking, thank you very much. JPs on Titan would take any BRD they could get and thanked them to the point of practically asskissing them.

There's setting a low bar and just being plain terrible. Sorry but I have no idea what the BRD/NIN turning up in a V Cloak and +MP gear was playing at. If you're going to piss off the healer by subbing NIN when you're not a tank or DD that might actually benefit from Dual Wield II for the love of god at least bring gear that might make it worth it. If your healer is worth a damn the puller and DD's should never need to sub NIN anyway. I've been perfectly able to keep up with burn parties as a WHM/SMN (pre-70 so no Sublimation) with nobody subbing NIN. It's called actually making use of Curaga, all Regens and hMP gear and actually having a competent NIN tank for once.

And on Kujata most BRDs only seem to care about doing merit parties. Probably because those are the parties that pander to a BRD's every need. They can be sitting there seeking and ready to go but if you even think about inviting them to anything other than a meripo you'll never get them to budge.

I've noticed the quality of WHMs and RDMs plummeting too. In a party last night we had to boot the RDM (who was lol/NIN and meleeing when she was invited specifically for backup healing) and WHM (Who didn't even know that an OP warp was) because every pull they would spam their highest level cures on anyone who lost HP instead of the tanks and whine that they were running out of MP before the mob was at 75%HP and either get themselves or the tank killed because of it. I was the BLM and I had to waste my 2 hour keeping the tank alive because of these idiots. Thankfully we were able to get some LS members to rep them with and I actually gained a few levels on BLM (Now BLM33) as well as teaching the DRG and SAM how absurdly powerful BLM nukes and Skillchains + Magic Bursts are even at low levels.

Hate to say it, but as a COR, I only accept merit invites, too. Simple reason being is my job has expenses and I'm not spending more gil on bullets than I already have to. I will not level sync and peel off Steel Bullets nor will I go buy the level appropriate bullets. Blame SE for not giving CORs more ammo options than they have. RNG gets three ranged weapon types and a load of more affordable ammo, so I'm willing to Sync my RNG.

Hell, THF and DNC will sync, too. But not my COR.
