Not really a Pet peeve but I've just had a very odd hour or so.

I'm doing subs before I level rdm at the moment, I've finished nin and working on drk but because I'm ever hopeful about capping out merits I had a quick look at what was seeking 75 when I logged on and saw no healers, at all so promptly stick up my flag.

I get an invite pretty quickly, accept and have a look at the setup. DDs, a dancer and an anon. I ask about the dancer and the leader tells me they have no bard, that's not a problem for me so I head about to Mamool Ja Staging point. Unfortunately when I get there I see that the anon person instead of being a DD is actually a rdm.....o.k so this is starting to look bad but I'm a whm and I don't get invites that often so I'm not going to turn my nose up just yet.

I let the party know I will take over haste to make sure that's o.k and they seemed really overly happy about that idea, I found out why when the rdm send me a tell {Haste} {No Thanks} {Dancer} {Haste Samba} >< Managed to straighten that out and stick around for about 10 minutes getting very bored because I had nothing to do then had a word with the party leader to let them know what they really need is another DD not a whm.

I got back to whitegate, had some dinner and waited for another invite because still only me and some whms obviously in sky seeking party. I get another invite and it's from a war/thf whose only other member is a rdm at the moment. Not to be a princess but war/thf in a merit party gives me huge warning bells especially if he's inviting two healers so I turn him down and mention all this to a friend I'm chatting too.

He ups and says "I know who that is! No idea why he's seeking with /thf though let me talk to him" turns out that the war is a friend of his that's just come back to the game and he forgot to change sub so I have a word with him and get into the party. I pull up the party list to see whose in it and what do I see war, whm, rdm, dnc..... I explain that it's total overkill on the healing and volunteer to back out because the rdm was the leaders friend and rdm and dnc is going to be better than rdm and whm.

I decide this might be the games way of telling me to get on with my drk sub and aparently I was right because I got an invite straight away before I put my flag up to a party that's so far levelled me twice in an hour.

Duoing BLM with CK.

I'm 74, I have Stoneskin and Blink. I have Tier IV nukes. He is 67, no tier IV nukes and apparently doesn't even own Blink (wtf ... gonna kill him). It is much safer for me to nuke first, for obvious reasons.

What does he do? He keeps running out to go cast Burst on them before I've even stood up. Now when I stand up, I need to recast SS and Blink, every time. He claims there is plenty of time for me to get my nuke off first, but not when I have to recast buffs. So he gets hate first, and takes a ton of damage. I tell him that eventually shit's going to get fucked up and he's going to end up dying. He refuses to listen.

Well he dies, and then because of his death which I tried to save him from, I was distracted from the fight while he was yelling at me on vent and I die, too.

Really wouldn't have hurt to just fucking be patient.

You know, it really does get tiresome that I sometimes end up having to complete half a group to get anything done in this game. I personally don't like going outside LS for things like BCNMs because you know there's always a chance of getting the jerk that lots out of turn and runs off with something the group worked for.

So I like to keep things in the group with people I know and trust.

Seems very rarely anything ever gets done this way. There's always some bullshit excuse to not go and do a BCNM. You know, things like weapon break and meritting you can do any old damn time. BCNMs are a chance to get cool gear or make gil. Especially some of these new WotG BCNMs, which are even more of a rare opportunity, it seems.

Best one is the "I don't have seals bit."

Great, I have tons of seals, I'm willing to sell and split.

"But... I don't have seals."

...

Really, if you don't want to do shit, then just fucking sit in Whitegate and remain bored. When you say "I'm bored," that means you have nothing to do. Apparently in FFXI it means, "I want to do something, but I want to do something that is directly for my benefit with minimal personal effort."

My peeve would have to be.. jackass party leaders who think they can camp wherever the hell they want and everyone will love them for it.

Last night I was leveling my Bard in Yuhtunga Jungle and we went to swap camps to some "super awesome camp" to see a party already there, so our leader just camps ontop of them, pulling everything he can see just so they move.

I decide it's getting out of hand, so I say that I'm leaving.. and all I get is insults through tell and people abusing me because I don't like camping ontop of another party.

Atleast my blist got a nice workout..

I havent played this game very long...and Ive had my ups and downs. Basically I had a so-so time getting parties as a new player, so I came back from a small hiatus and decided to solo on my monk. I dont have any advanced jobs unlocked yet, and am really excited to get there...lo and behold soloing EPs and DC I got from lvl 18-26 on my 2 days off *yay* Then I get this nasty message from a Beastmaster leveling where I am, accusing me of being a RMT and hes going to report me. Telling me I am taking up his space and this is his hunting ground,and hes going to harrass me into leaving I guess That sprinkled with some insults about what a crappy player I am and how I suck -_- It made me completely depressed.

And then I realized that is my pet peeve about FFXI...theres quite a few nice, genuine people, but the amount of people that are like him turn me off from the game...I did quit for a short while and came back, but now I think Ill look for a game with a better community. I spose I could have a tougher skin and laugh it off, but from the short time Ive played, ive gotten a real sour taste of how people can be...and it aint purty...

Dream on. If you do happen to find this ficticious perfect game where everyone lives in harmony, keep it to yourself so it doesn't get tainted. I imagine that the only person that will be in it will be you though. The entire point of MMO's is to interact with different people and when doing so you get different personalities. Just like real life, we all don't get along. It's made worse by the internet giving you that anonymous face. (We ALL are guilty of using that anonymous face to say or do something we wouldn't normally....even me.) But developers always throw you a bone by giving you some way of ignoring the asshats and in FFXI its called a blacklist. You just type /blist add <person's name here> and TA DA nothing they ever say again will be seen again. See how that works! Now you only see what the nice people say and you magically have your perfect game.........well kinda.

Sorry to hear you've had such a sucky time,
I can't even think of a game with a better community out of all the other MMORPG's this is the one where people actually have brains and not everything they dont like is gay.
As for the Bst is probably from one of those "everything is gay" places and as for reporting you there is nothing they can do unless you are up to no good.

Your worst things to encounter will be Theif players "no offence to Thf's" where they'll farm on top of you or as I found as a beastmaster use a ranged attack from across the map during a pet swap and kill you.
Many people in this game will tell you this is "Their" place for such and such reason but apart from your moghouse nobody owns ANYTHING in the game world.

I wouldnt suggest you leave the game so soon you've not even had a taste of what the game can offer you just have to accept that just like in real life you'll encounter Jerks at some point.
I strongly suggest you make friends and maybe join a linkshell, I felt like leaving before I found my linkshell, Having people you know in the game will help you feel like you fit in more.

Also, you'll get to 30 quicker in a party and have the oportunity to make friends.
I play as a beastmaster and solo all the time and trust me it's lonely unless you have friends.

Hmmm last I checked the name of the game is Final Fantasy XI Online, unless that BST's name was Final Fantasy then he doesn't own any area online in the game. When he sent me that tell I probably would've sent a tell back saying lol /blacklist {have a nice day}, or depending on how I was feeling he might've got "You don't own this zone so you can Teleport-GTFO". I think its funny he claimed he was gonna report you as RMT, you probably could've reported him for harassing you but they probably would've only told you to /blacklist him.

When I farm on my 75WAR/15THF (lol gimped farm) I go to a certain zone and before I get there I always do a /sea in the zone to make sure no /THFs or THFs are there before I zone in. If there are then I'll either go to my other zone to farm or do something else until the THF leaves and then go farm. (@ Minka)That's like me going there and sending a tell to the THF farming in the zone saying "You've been out here too long and you need to free up the zone so somebody else could farm." He'd probably just laugh and /flee. However when I get out to a zone and I'm the only one out there and people don't have the common courtesy to leave once they see somebody is out there farming already and they farm on top of you, that's kinda bold. I remember once I was farming and a 75 THF showed up and the jackass saw me farming. He had used flee already to beat me to some mobs so he couldn't outrun me since I was in front of him, this guy pulls out a crossbow and starts sniping the mobs before I can get to them, so I had to start voke killing Maneating Hornets lolwtf. However that's something you deal with in this game, which is why whenever I get a zone to myself I try to hurry up lol. The other day I was farming in Pashhow and a NIN came into my area and as soon as he saw me he turned around and left. This shocked the hell outta me because I was sure he was gonna camp on top of me.

Edit: Also reminds me of when I was leveling woodworking and running around logging from tree to tree in Ghelsba Outpost and normally I'd be the only person out there. This one day I was out there with this other dude and it was like the dude was on /follow and was just following me around and then he'd get to the tree before me. How I figured this out, I had farmed logs there for so long that I pretty much knew how random the patttern was, so I'd run in the opposite location of where the tree really was and then when he'd follow me I'd circle around and get to the tree first.

I've had /WARs camp on top of me before and voke stuff before I could claim. Not even Flash comes out quick enough to win against a voke. That is usually when I call in LS assistance to completely clear out a camp. It's surprisingly effective especially if a RDM or BLU comes along.

That damn invisible camping is so damn stupid. We were camping Ose one day and there was a alliance out there camping and like 5 people in it were running around invisible so they could get claim on him when he popped. Majority of them were watching us fight the coeurls while they just ran around doing nothing and fighting the behemoths. Eventually our SMN who was leading the group said something to them and they eventually started fighting them. Since we only had 3 people in our group there at the moment we all went invisible too just cuz they were. Of course Ose popped when we were all visible and I got claim but no drop.

Pet Peeve:

This is a superstition I've always had but it may not be true. A long time ago I stopped crafting things that could be toolbagged or quivered in front of npcs because it seemed like people were watching what everyone was crafting there and then they'd go craft the same thing right next to you. For example: I check ffxiah and there are about 2-5 stacks of acid bolt quivers in the AH and its been like that for at least 2 hours. During this time I'm in front of the npc crafting and by the time I'm halfway done somebody else runs up crafting them as well. Most of the time its the people that sell for about 40-50% less than the going price lol. So now when I craft stuff for quiver/toolbag, I only craft in my mog house. I thought everybody knew you could craft inside your mog house, but there were some people that are in my ls that have been playing since the game came out and didn't know it. BTW I'm probably just paranoid.

I craft in my Mog House all the time. And I only go invisible while camping if I need to rest and/or mobs in the area aggro on sight (I don't do much camping, anyway; can't really stand it).

I guess everything's fine with me in-game. Closest thing I can think of to a pet peeve is getting junk I have no use for while gardening. I suppose I could make a few Cheese Sandwiches with this Black Pepper, but that'd require me to go all the way to Windurst to buy the rest of the ingredients (including a cheese that's supposed to be from San d'Oria anyway, but oddly enough can't be found there . . . ).
