Voice chat with 1 person on 360', 6 people on Ventrillo at the same time and no real support for any of it in FFXI. PS2 basketball games even have had voice for years. Typing is great but to many mixed up forms of communication now on top of that.

They originally planned to ship FFXI with a universal translator, but development costs were through the roof.

Not failing a charm for 5k exp, then when Im 100xp tnl, failing all charms until finally I die.

And I forgot reraise.

That's the nature. ...it's also why I'm taking a small break from FFXI for a week or so. The last 3 bcnm's that I've done, charm didn't stick. Not one. Enter bcnm, eat and drink gil. Put RR up. Put shadows up. Fail charm. Consume more gil. Wait for charm timer. Fail charm. Run away to die. /wait. Reraise. Comsume more gil. Die again.

I generally don't have a problem w/ this bcnm with about +23 CHR. The last 3 I did with 29-30. Go figure.

Dear gawd no. Have you ever played Phantasy Star Universe on the 360? That game alone is why there should NEVER be voice support on an MMO. Have you ever had some stuck up endgame player scream at you for an entire [insert rare item here] run just because your [insert skill here] isn't capped? People got exactly like that with mages on PSU if thier spells weren't capped. Now imagine actually having to listen to the person yelling at you over voice chat. And hearing people's reactions to you not being there to heal the second they take damage and woe betide you if they die.

It's convenient sure but I'd rather sacrifice a bit of convenience for my asprin bills soaring because of someone screaming down his mic at me because he lost a bit of exp or someone isn't matching his elitist expectations.

My greatest peeve must be the fact that the strategy guide I bought for FFXI (I think it's Brady 2004) does not mention what the minimum level your character should have to have a chance in winning in a monster fight while completing little quests. I was a level 8 Monk in Bastok and with my last money I bout a Quus to feed Bubbling Bernie in South Gustaberg. I fought my way through all the giant hornets, tunnel worms, amber quavans, young quavans, you name it....I find Bubbling Bernie and what happens? Bernie decides to attack me 3 times and WHAM...Iz dead...grrrrrr.....

Do you guys know a site or even a strategy guide I can buy that does mention the minimum levels? Is there a strategy guide for the 2008 edition of FFXI?

Brady Guide is awful and extremely outdated. If you want any information on quests and the level of mobs you'll be fighting, FFXIClopedia is a really good source.

To say the Bradygames guide is extremely outdated is not only an understatement, it doesn't paint the whole picture. The Bradygames guide was flawed and obsolete from the very day it was released. You have no idea how much damage it caused the NA player population. It made WAR out to be a mediocre job that's only useful as a sub job, and claimed that BSTs penalize the party's EXP. Those "facts" got around very quickly and dealt fatal blows to both jobs. The stigma wouldn't pass for years.
