See, because its not just a game, its also people's time. If you'e not using that time constructively in cooperation with other in FFXI, it makes me wonder why you're wasting my time. I could be doing a lot of other things, in-game or out. My time is valueble, so don't feed me the "its just a game." Just because I'm arguing with you over text doesn't change the nature of your wrongdoings.

I have to say that it takes a lot to get me truly angry.....and when I am you'll know it. LOL But the "it's just a game" bs will do that like 0-60 in a Ferrari! Kitten is SO right....its not just a game its our REAL LIFE time we are wasting on your sorry a**. My time is precious irl because I don't have a lot of time to spend on gaming. When I get in game I want to do something constructive and I don't consider waiting for some sorry a** "it's just a game" person to decide they want to do what they are supposed to do. This applies to coming to events late, exping right up until event time, not coming with the right job/equips and then going back to fix it, doing something stupid that you absolutely know NOT TO and wiping the ls/pt, not paying attention because something good is on tv/psp/ds/newspaper/book/etc., and the list goes on. Be a man/woman and if you f**k up say you are sorry and LEARN FROM IT and DON'T DO IT AGAIN! Don't tell me to "chill" and "its just a game"!

Of course there is the other side of it. People that don't realize it is a game and I do have to go to sleep because I have to work the next morning. It doesn't matter that not everyone got their Reverend Mail tonight. Maybe if we had started on time and not 2 hours late we could have got everyone done.

This, too. There's the ones that don't take the game seriously enough and then those that take it too seriously.

I've been in both situations, and both irritated me.

First one was in my old sky shell. In Kirin room. We were supposed to start at 4:30. 5:15 rolls around, and I have to ask, "What are we waiting for?"

Sack: Well, one of the tanks isn't here, and so-and-so had to go change jobs.

Me: We couldn't have figured this out like, I don't know, a half an hour ago?

RandomMember1: Is that all you do, is bitch?

Me: You don't think that having 45 minutes of my time wasted is a good enough reason to get a bit irritated?

That, coupled with a few other things, was one of the main reasons I left that shell. Leader refused to lead, people did whatever the hell they wanted. We could have done three Kirins that day, we did one. And the pity of it was I was second in line for Wlegs, but I couldn't take the stupidity and bullshit anymore.

I've also been on the flipside, particularly during finals week. I'd get text messages asking where I was, why I wasn't in game. I'm trying not to fail dickwad! I'm already going to pull an all-nighter getting my work done, now you want me to spend 3 hours doing something like meriting? Are you stupid? Get another RDM; there's at least 7 million of them on Hades. Granted, I know they're not all as good as me, (in fact most are horrendous) but you'll get by.

How dare people think that my RL time is not more valuable than the game. I love this game a LOT but if I have something going on outside it, that definitely comes first unless there's a scheduled event like Dynamis.

I think some people believe they're making friends, but actually aren't. They just go through the motions, doing what they think friends do and then one day turn around and flip out on you because they're realized you're just a faceless social contact they've made over the internet.

I know people have a right to maintain thier privacy and all, but the abuse of your privacy is no better than someone else invading it. You can start over with new "friends" as many times as you want in a game such as this, but you're constantly going to find yourself starting over.

One person I know actually subconsciously tries to salvage failed experiences and friendships by naming mules and linkshells after them. Or levelling the jobs those friends had. Recently they were looking to me to mentor them in RNG, SCH and COR... so I kinda got the impression I was being phased out as well. When they pulled the "just a game" bit when I started pointing out some problems - and this most notably after some breakdowns over the game of epic proportions coming from them - I figured I was pretty much on the mark and told them, "Look, we just can't be friends."

Someone please remind me to stop farming coffer keys on the weekends. There aren't a lot of coffer mobs in the Citadel that are easily soloable, yet everyone in their 6 man groups decides those are the ones they need to kill.

I know they have just as much right to the mobs as I do, but come on. There are other spots to go which better support a full party that's going to tear through mobs, let the solo RDM have her fun. Please?

Yep, if you want to be a leader/sac then do the job. Realize its going to take up a lot of your time in game and might not be all that much fun at times. We recently had someone promoted to a sac position that did nothing. His big contribution was to lot on drops for the coffer or pop items. Other than that all he would do is mimic other sacs/leader:

Sac: SoandSo, we are getting ready to go into Dynamis. Are you getting a replacement for your exp party because you need to come now.

Brown-noser sac: Ya, SoandSo its time for Dynamis so let's get a going.

I've had this happen to me so much in game that I am at the point where I don't invest too much time into making "friends" anymore. I've really only had two or three lasting friendships I see living beyond this game, really. Its also easier to make and keep friends in a social linkshell context. I just can't see myself making real friends in an endgame context, I've been backstabbed far too many times to count now over endgame.

One guy on Odin seemed to make it point to be friendly and talk to me every day and I thought because of his friendly nature, in part, I would give his LS a spin to see if they reflected that. The day I watched a friend go apeshit in that LS was the day I decided for the most part this LS just wasn't somewhere I could be. They didn't make proper use of their CORs and never attended to member's needs where Dynamis city wins were concerned.

After I decided to terminate my trial with that LS, dude hasn't spoken to me once since then. Maybe he lost face over that or maybe that friendliness was just faked, at any rate, it was my decision to leave and he's the one that consciously chose not to speak with me again.

There are just soooo many fakes at endgame.

I sometimes wonder if I'm just better off in an old-school western MMO, people at least had the dignity to act like adults in games like EQ. Not to say they were devoid of drama, it was just easier to see who the assholes were.

I haven't read all the last posts here, but I see friendship and endgame linkshells.

Now I can put a huge rant here or just a quick summary. I'll settle for the last one.

You're always best off staying at distance and rather quiet in endgame linkshells. Final Fantasy XI's community is entirely online. As everyone knows, a community of peoples online can consist of some really, really weird people. We all know the arrogance and all those typical personality behaviors some of the weird people seem to have. Now in an endgame linkshell.. especially the more active and stronger ones, is where we can expect al lot of these people to get together.
Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of nice and normal (whatever one consideres normal) people there. But.. you can always expect the weirdest things from them. You're always best off to not get too much involved.



In the end, it's all a bunch of tree-hugging hippie crap!

Isn't this the damn truth. People will do whatever they want to get the stuff they want. I had one guy in an endgame ls that I had known for a couple years pull a number on me. I thought he was nice and we would hang out and do stuff together. He would talk to me about the ls's inner workings. I told him that I had tried, as a sac, to implement some things to help the ls run smoother (which is part of my job isn't it?) and that the leader and his cronies had ignored me and become irritated with me. We talked about my suggestions and he agreed that they would help the ls. As time wore on he would talk to me about the ls needing more sacs that actually cared about the ls and wondered why the leader had not approached him before me since he was in the ls longer than me. Eventually I went to the leader and his cronies and suggested having another sac and eventually they agreed. They started suggesting people and my "friend"'s name came up and I put in my support for him and convinced them to make him a sac. WOW TALK ABOUT A TURN AROUND!! After he was made a sac, he no longer talked to me...well talked to me nicely that is. He wouldn't hang out or do things with me. He brown nosed the leader and his cronies BIG time and disagreed with every suggestion I had made in the past (you know the ones he thought were so good) or would make in the future. He turned into a total asshat. Now rinse and repeat this for damn near every single person I've met in endgame. They always have an agenda and dump your a** in the end.

In the end, it's all a bunch of tree-hugging hippie crap!

Party today was rdm, pld, war, thf, sam & sam at greater colibris
one sam was 73 (which i dont care about, im not one of the 75onryptmusthaveBRDand3RidillWARorimnotjoining types) but this guy dinged 74, and after a few more said brb im going to the AH
thats not a big deal, people run out of food and stuff, so he is gone for about 20 minutes when the other sam finally asks "dude, wtf are you doing; get back here"
and he replies "i had to buy alky bracelets and warwolf belt"

do you really need to leave mid party to do something like that
i mean come on

also he took so long the rdm fake d/c and pt broke then he yelled at us for disbanding after that and wasting his IS because he was finally back in the AUR
