New pet peeve: people with no sense of time. It might be just me, but people really need to develop a sense of time and proper English skills.

So, my friend is in a Limbus LS. The leader says "The Limbus run starts at 5:30." Now, what this is supposed to mean is that the Limbus run itself starts at 5:30.

It doesn't mean start logging in at 5:30.

It doesn't mean start muling your gear to your character at 5:30.

It doesn't mean start heading to the gathering point at 5:30.

It means "@#$%ing be ready to go and in the alliance at 5:30 because that's when we're leaving."

But instead of starting at 5:30, they wait for everyone to get there and the run starts at 8:30 instead thanks to everyone's incompetence. Honestly, do these people not speak proper English?!

I haven't been in an LS yet that doesn't have this problem. I've always suggested some sort of demerit system but when even sacs are doing it, they aren't too keen on the idea. LOL

Hate you ; ;... Honestly I can't tell you the last time a linkshell event started on time. My assault perma and Salvage perma's start on time because I am in charge and I will leave w/o you if you don't give me a heads up beforehand.

Sevv.... I'm saying that all the ls's I've been in have this issue of people being constantly late. Heck even the dang sacs do it and then have the balls to yell at regular members when they do it.

It's not just FFXI. It happens to me with every other activity labelled a "game" that involves getting multiple people in one spot too. And then when I try to schedule it earlier, people whine, "But I can't get on then!" Well, then, be prepared when we do get on, then! Then you won't have to worry about us stopping only two hours after we start because somebody has to leave and you've been screwing around for an hour after what was supposed to be the tee time. -- Pteryx

Aaand that's what they say when you tell them they are wasting everyone's time by being late. Because apparently it being a game means they can throw basic responsability out the window.

Isn't that the damn truth. But what I really like is when that person is then denied the opportunity to lot an item because of their constant tardiness and then they get pissed and whine. It's so satisfying to say.......

The "Just a Game" Bit is a major pet peeve of mine, but its usually only so when it comes from people who used the terms to rationalize thier bullshit rather than it being a rational statement. But then, I suppose its easy to be like this when you never take the "friendships" you make beyond the keyboard.

Its just funny to watch the parts of the game these people do take seriously, particularly when you point out thier lack of consistancy. They fold and run off almost instantly.

Have to agree, when it's being used to justify a bullshit excuse it's one of the few things in game that actually makes me angry rather than peeved.

Totally agree with last few post. If it was "just" a game you would not still be playing year after year meeting people and making friendships. This online community that we belong to is more then Pacman or Mario.

Most of do expect people to be honest and trust worthy and on time..

There was this one "friend" I had back on Titan. Said she her parents were making her quit and so me and some friends decided to help her get her DRG AF completed as a send off. This was back before most people had multiple 75s, mind you, so getting your AF was still considered a major milestone anyone.

So we got her AF done. Big Farewell. All done, right?

Nah, two weeks later, she's back playing the game against the wishes of her family. Push come to shove and she finally moves out of her family's house over the game, moves into a friend's place and picks up a part-time job.

Around this time I had picked up BRD as a curiosity. Breezed it from 1-34 in a week's time while her DRG was scraping by on barely an invite. She sees my progress and starts looking up a few random BRD forums and proclaims BRD her new main job to 75. Just a couple weeks after me she's on AF1. The vast difference our BRDs is while she levelled hers and I levelled mine, I got help from the LS out of respect of my peers and geared it with lots of respect and she just begged for help, never helped anyone and geared her BRD like shit.

And so, she had a big drama fit in the LS and went off looking for new socials. Much like in ours, she begged for help, but this time since it didn't work in our LS, she also went looking for boyfriends (read: suckers). So bascially she leeched to ungimp her BRD, took loans and upon hitting her first 75, ditched every one of those friends for an endgame LS.

There's a lot more to that story but, suffice to say, she uses "its just a game" to counter a lot of the arguments. Its fun to watch the real addicts argue who's taking what "too seriously."

See, because its not just a game, its also people's time. If you'e not using that time constructively in cooperation with other in FFXI, it makes me wonder why you're wasting my time. I could be doing a lot of other things, in-game or out. My time is valueble, so don't feed me the "its just a game." Just because I'm arguing with you over text doesn't change the nature of your wrongdoings.

To paraphrase Kip the sigmaker on KI, "Saying 'its just a game' is like arguing over the phone and saying, 'Its just a phone.'"
