True, so long as you know up-front you're main healer. I wouldn't particularly blame a BLM for just leaving if the first they hear about their being main heal is at the camp.

For myself, I don't mind backup healing at all on BLM, and am willing to MAIN heal if it's called for (though if somebody happens to SC, I'm going to jump all over it if I can spare the MP).

The LSes I've been in have never been terribly supportive of mercenary behavior, internally or even externally by those wearing our pearl. If someone initiates a mercenary action within the linkshell, its usually been grounds for removal, even moreso if you trotted around with our pearl on and tried to profit off other players.

In general, its just not a behavior that is accepted by many, I only see it as acceptable when the person in need makes the offer. Anyone else that responds to a /shout for assistance, looking to make some gil on it, is a jackass to me.

Then that's your LS's problem. If they dislike capitalism, that's entirely their choice-- some LS/guilds thrive very well on having closed, communist systems amongst their members. If they only allow people to do charity work, that's also their choice. However, that doesn't mean that it's wrong, at least any more so than helping people with missions is in the first place.

Maybe many of the people you know. Nobody I was friends with ever had a problem with it; and very few people who play the game do either. I don't know about your server, but Fenrir was full of economic activity-- teletaxi, crafters, NM hunters, and so on.

Personally I have helped others who offered me gil, or if I really didn't want to do it in the first place ask for a fee that would just cover my consumables/possible deaths. But thats only for people who I don't know and aren't in my shell nor are friends of my friends.

There are times I do go for charity, but only rarely since I'd have to like doing the work. Like RDM hat nms, ZM missions, 8-1+ CoP missions, promyvions(except vahlz), minor stuff thats always fun to repeat or that I solo with no trouble ;3

I'd agree with mercenary work if players often weren't getting something out of helping.
            • Avatars have questable and repeatable rewards.
            • Coffers keys - there are drops, scrolls gil and skill-up opportunities.
            • Missions help you strengthen your LS/friends for endgame access.

Oh, and the respect of your peers for helping, when you need something and help others selflessly, often, people will strive to meet your needs later on. I didn't get great gear just because I played the game, but helped others and remembering that, they helped me in return.

When you merc your "help" to others, people will not show you this kind of consideration, they will not stand up for your needs or fight for you later. They owe you no personal debt because you chose the impersonal way of doing things.

Actually when I try to help people on the 6 primes.... some how they always do what I told them NOT to do.
Usually when it comes to Ifrit and Garuda.
I make it a rule, if you want one of those prime fights be a Red Mage, or pay me to get you through to the BC and tank it, I'm not risking my time and exp on something ridiculously easy just to get fouled up when I would come out ahead by myself.

Both of your requirements are ridiculous because (1) Not everyone wants to be a RDM and (2) You already get gil for doing primes, if you did all celestials in one day you'd have 60k. The quest itself compensates you. Three of the celestials are easy to get to, to boot.

Not to mention you don't need a RDM to fight a celestial. WHM can haste you, so can a BRD. SCH, WHM, DNC and BLUs heal just fine.

I can easily solo as rdm, duo as whm. Its not for the haste or refresh. Its the fact I can focus on holding hate without needlessly curing the other person which would eat up my mp faster than fighting it on its prime day. I don't care what job really, I just want something thats going to be less messy for both of us to get it done.

Would you rather go in with a person who ends up making you your mp just to keep them alive only to run out after AF goes off and some how kills them leaving you convertless and mpless? Or rather have someone smart enough to listen to go as a combo that can hold their own majority of the time.

Or a person who want you to help them through Ifrit and 'forgets' bombs aggro to magic or forgets the eyes aggro to sound. Thus eating more time than I would want to spend in the cauldron. I'm going to hold expectations to people being smart about using common sense if they want me to hold their hand for a simple 10 minute at most fight.

60k in 1 day, sure, if I wanted to spend 3hours just running around from OPing and do a 10minute fight for each avatar. I only do 3 avatars(generally Shiva, Garuda and Leviathan) just so I have limbus(Titan or Ramuh) money since its most direct and a forth fight would cover my shihei and op expenses.

It boils down to, I don't know who you are, and I'm not gonna risk something completely easy for me to help you with that runs a risk of fouling up that shouldn't happen.

(I'm not exactly focused at the moment since I just realized I've been writing up and down on this post, so it may sound more off than most of my posts would normally be)

If someone shouts that they're paying someone to help, what's the problem? The real issue to me is if you don't know up front, before you invite someone, that they're not just there for the fun of it and want something out of the deal -- or, as omg points out, if they want to be paid when they're already getting 10k from doing the quest in the first place. (The other things he listed may not necessarily apply as rewards in every case.) -- Pteryx

If they shout with the offer of gil, that's thier problem because they think that's the way it has to be and probably lack the personal connections to get anything done.

Catching up on what I missed over the weekend, and got myself a new sig/title lol.

WTF is wrong with people that can't just stick to a GD static? My g/f's 'friends' from her social LS leveled from like 40 to 64 with her...then she sits and waits for 2 weeks because one of them doesn't feel like XPing his main, then the 2 of them do Campaign Battle to get 2 levels up on her and ditch her for another static without saying anything...and seem to be trying to drop her from a CoP static as well, but they can't find a competent enough WHM to replace her.

On the funny side, they both seem intent on applying to the endgame LS that I'm an officer of, guess where they're not likely to get in to?
