  • Re: What's your pet peeve in FFXI?

Less of a peeve, more of a rant:

Winningest day evar so far. Last night our cable went out for 5 hours thanks to Comcast's wonderful service. My g/f convinced me to watch a movie with her instead of camping out staring at the modem waiting for signs of internet for the entire night, I'm still not quite sure how she roped me into it.

I take FFXI out of my 360, put her movie in. It was Pirates of the Carribean, I'll admit it was actually an entertaining movie which furthered my man-crush on Orlando Bloom. Anyways, movie ends, and I see that our cable is back on. I take the disc out and go to put FFXI back in so that I can go camp out to get my Assault tag as soon as I get home today. G/f gives me the 'you aren't really going to play now are you?'; I know better than to walk into that one so I say 'Of course not, dear!', put the FFXI disc down, close the tray, turn off the 360, and go to bed.

I wake up this morning, and decide to try for my tag so that I don't hold our Nyzul group up an extra day. I reset the modem/router, everything appears to be in order, so I pop the Open button on the 360.

    And nothing.

I try again, nothing. The disc tray won't budge. I pop off the front cover to see if I can get a grip on it and tug a bit. I can't of course, so I try a butter knife. No go, the disc tray is officially stuck for good. Now I get to send it in to MS and wait 3 weeks to get it back, and of course this is one of the few weeks where I actually had really promising plans ingame, I was going to get g/f through the Promies and I would be almost assured to finally get my W.Legs on Friday since we're likely to have enough trigs for 3 Kirins. But, I figure I'll worry about it later since I can still be on time to work if I left right then.

Of course, the whole 1.2 inches of snow that fell last night throws all of the drivers into a frenzy, because they've never seen snow before IN FUCKING CHICAGO, and it takes me twice as long to get to work as it normally does. I of course get yelled at for being late, and it appears that we are out of coffee until tomorrow.

    Morals of the story:

    1) Don't trust women, they're evil and will break your 360

    2) Don't trust Johnny Depp movies, they're evil and will break your 360.

    3) Don't trust Microsoft, they're evil and will sell you a broken 360.

    4) Don't trust Comcast, they're evil and will sell you broken internet to plug into your broken 360.

    5) If you see more than 1.1 inches of snow on the ground, just call into work. They won't have any fucking coffee anyways.

Did you try the paper-clip-in-the-lil-hole-emergency-open trick?

Or does a 360 not have this feature?

You did turn on the 360 before trying to eject the disk right?

I don't think it does, I couldn't see any other way to access the try without disassembling it, and I'm currently in between not wanting to void my warranty by trying it and not wanting to wait 3 weeks for a new one.

Yeah, I'm lazy and always turn the 360 on via the controller before anything else.

Have fun with that snow. Moved from farther north then you and never want to see it outside my house again.

I do laugh at the locals though about freaking out over the snow.

Pet Peeve - Not enough places to solo BLM exp. Not to mention having to solo for exp as BLM in the first place.

                      Update:

I came up with an alternate solution to my 360 conundrum: Ship off my current one for service/replacement, buy myself a 360 Elite, and give the repaired one to my g/f when we get it back, this way I don't have to miss LS events for 3 weeks, g/f doesn't have to play on PS2, and I don't have to have my retinas melted off everytime I log into her character or put up with doing Kirin on a PS2.

Of couse, despite seeing infinite adds on GameStop and elsewhere of HOLY SHIT BUY A 360 ELITE IT'S AWESOME!!11...no GameStop in the history of forever has any Elites in stock, and for that matter none even have any fucking Pros, just Arcades. Actually, pretty much noone has Elites to sell, which makes me wonder why I see advertisements for it, it's more frustrating than the Sonic commercials that have food that looks fucking delicious that are all over my TV screen when there isn't a Sonic within 3 GODDAMN HOURS of where I live.

Now I get to try my hand at BestBuy to see if they have at least a 360 Pro in stock. Which is absolutely perfect, because if there is any one single specific thing I really, really, really hate to do when I get out of work, it's go to a crowded retailer in rush hour traffic.

My policy of hating everyone and everything just for existing has once again been fully justifired I believe.

1st RDM/WAR, now this. Seriously Aka, why did you level mage jobs if you want to be a DD? Go level BLU, you can do both and no one will give you flak for it.

Same. It's been snowing off and on here the last week. (unfortunately not enough for me to just call in to work, but that's another issue.) Today on the way in, traffic slowed to a crawl on the highway because it started to snow a little bit. It melted as soon as it hit the ground but that didn't stop everyone from driving 30 on the freeway anyway.

I hate the snow more than anything in the world lol, as well as the cold in general(yes I know, it sounds stupid coming from someone who was born and raised in IL, we only have 2 seasons, winter and summer). I hate how it turns drivers into idiots, I have how it gets in my shoes when I walk through it, and I especially hate getting up 20 minutes early just to start my car.

It seems the only company in the world that has Elites in stock is Wal-Mart, about the only company in the world I don't want to give my money to if I don't have to. They're in-store availability is sketchy, I'd have to call around, and they only way to buy one online is in one of those bundles that I don't really want to pay an extra $80 for when I don't need an extra game or controller.

<_< I leveled them cause they were fun, before ToAU came out. Now being a mage sucks with the damn burn parties. Besides, nothing is more enjoyable than wearing the rdm af hat and spaming vorpal blade, or whm in the reverned mail and hexa strike.

Blu i have considered it, but it just doesn't seem all that fun imho. Its more of a thf/blu or drk/blu spaming bludgeon in capped areas kind of fun.

Aka, you should give BLU another try. It's more fun that you might think.

edit: Maybe so, Mhurron. But you also have to live in, what is it, South Carolina? Or some other southern hellhole. I enjoy wearing shoes too much to move down there.
