I found a way to train BLM to stay near me.

    Its called Corsair's Roll.

I'll usually roll it in manaburn PTs because there's really nothing better to roll when AM2s and T4s are going down on puddings. Once they lose the EXP buff they come running right back to you. They'll even look for you, even in Dynamis where there's no reason rolling it. The shuffling of cards in Phantom Roll induces that Pavlov effect with BLMs, it means MP and EXP are coming

Its appreciated when I get the Joyeuse out, but that's about it for me.

need to try that at some point - never manaburned with a cor (cor's are a pretty rare thing on our server)

I try to stick close to my refresher, but statues are sneaky buggers...ok this big thing hulking down on me, I'm trying to get my distance!

I've found it interesting that even though JP invites are rare on COR, they'll be more than happy to pay attention to you when you mention COR Roll. We picked up a couple JP BLMs in a LS manaburn one time and one of the responses to COR Roll was "!" and neither of them ever really left my side after that.

Still harder to justify it in a melee-based PT, but I encourage the PTs that if they find a BRD to pull I may consider rolling it. Its a nice bit of leverage to have when used in the right situations.

lol. My automatic reaction to every Corsair's Roll thrown my way was: "Er... Don't you have anything better?"

An LS member leveling in Dunes with me once was nearly flabbergasted at my total lack of enthusiasm for his choice of roll: "But, it's what everyone else always wanted!" XD (But, hey, I got both Chaos and Hunter's after that, and he forgave me easily enough.)

I can see that in a manaburn, Corsair's roll will be as good as anything. Puddings are just so magically squishy, Warlock's and Wizard's roll are just wasted.

Last COR i pted with in MJSP said he couldnt pull becuase of the cooldown on Lightshot.

              >.>

(I know piss all about COR, but that just sounds lame).

He had a point - 1 minute cool down doesn't make for conducive pulling there. If he was pulling in conjunction with a bard - then that works.

                • Re: What's your pet peeve in FFXI?

No, it was an excuse. CORs will fish for any excuse not to pull so they can DD and buff. Its why Corsair's Roll is such beautiful leverage to start with, you ask me to pull and you're definately not getting Corsair Roll because now I'm doing all the work.

The existance of Utsusemi is more than sufficient to cover for the cooldown for Light Shot. I may have full QD Recast merits now, but I had no problems pulling and staging fights with Light Shot prior to them. At merit level, every COR should at least have a Peacemaker on them in the event they need to pull. Its not a DD gun, but its is good for fast pulls.

/NIN does take the thrill of COR melee out of burn PTs but when your pulling in burn PTs as COR you've pretty much lost the ability to DD if you intend to keep high chains.

Just slap on /NIN and blink the other stuff you pull early. It just requires some attention to the current mobs HP and getting a feel for your PTs killspeed. After that, its not very difficult. The only real difference between BRD and COR on pulling is BRD has two sleeps they can spam constantly, the one COR can do per minute is much more potent and accurate than either Lullaby.

I've got pulling down to the point where I can chain like most BRDs do and, believe me, it pisses BRDs off big when they get outpulled by a COR in a rival PT. Manteele BRDs especially. It probably helps a lot that I'm also a BRD on my other character and the fact that I always keep my EXP capped, so I'm not worried about taking risks.

Well, I did always wonder how COR's pulled with a 1min cooldown, and Im surprised that its so "unprecise" in that you pretty much do have to get a feel for things and there is a lot of room for error.

Yet Iv always been told COR in a pt is likely to be puller. Not that Iv partied with many, that one I mentioned was the only one at 75 I have meripo'ed with. Before that, was like lvl 67 or something I think.

                    • Re: What's your pet peeve in FFXI?

Even if you do expect a COR to pull, its incredibly polite to mention that fact before inviting them to PT. Most CORs are very drawn to the DD element of our job and we work hard to make that part of our job felt. Its why /RNG is the most popular subjob.

I'll put it in RDM terms. I usually subbed BLM for my RDM back in the day and you know what the most annoying thing about being a RDM was at the time?

To get an invite and trot all the way to Cape Terrigan only to find out at the moment you get there that the WHM is leaving and you're the main healer. They could have saved me 15 minutes of retread by mentioning I needed to sub /WHM.

                      ...

Its the same thing with COR. We like our RNG subjob and usually roll with it every where. /NIN isn't the defacto pulling sub per se, but it definately is if the mob is fast or it flies. So if I came /RNG and you didn't tell me I was pulling, you're inviting me to get tagged and die a lot. Save em time, tell them to sub /NIN for pulling before they arrive at camp and get mad at you.

That said, whenever I hear someone say "I don't PT with X Job much, so I don't know much about them"... its time for you to take a break and get to know those jobs by playing them a little.

You'll do a world of good for your main jobs by knowing how to relate to other jobs. BRD and COR are excellent for knowing how to play off the skills of others, but I still encourage people to get familiar with WAR or DRK or DRG by playing them so they know better how to work with them as a BRD or COR. The BRD that just slaps you with two Marches might seem amazing to a WAR, but its a surefire way to piss off a RNG.

It also helps to "talk shop" with other players. I really know jack about being a SMN, but I make it a point to know what SMNs like and want. While I think Puppet Roll might be better for Avatar melee, they've shown me that Beast Roll can be better, even without a BST present for the bonus.

                          GAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!

Having to wait until JP midnight every time you so much as talk to a @%^@$ing npc before you can do the the next part of a quest drives me @%$#%ing batty!!!

Got all suited up for Apocalypse Nigh last night, got a CS in Ru'lude Gardens, and used my Tav Ring. Myself and my group were pumped, we've been doing missions weekly with the goal of getting to this quest for 2 months running now, and it was finally time to beat The Last Verse. I grab some food and Echo Drops, and zone into Sealion's Den for the next cutscene.

                          And nothing.

In an epic FAIL on my part, I apparently didn't get the final cs of Shadows of the Departed when I finished it, the cs I had gotten in Jeuno a few minutes beforehand was that one. And of course, I have to wait until JP midnight to get the next one to start Apocalypse Nigh, so we ended up having to postpone the fight, possibly until next week.

Finally finished reading all 85 pages. Made my eyes hurt. Anyway i thought i would contribute as this thread is still going after a good year.

                            1. Dunes! This place was fantastic imo when i was levelling monk (probably because i was still a newbie then), It was also good when levelling my Dragoon there. Had some of my best party's there and made some good friends.

But when i go to take Warrior to sub to monk, or try out summoner i get virtually no party invites, no one is seeking at all. If i did get in a party it had usually 1-2 Pls per party. Even then they did a very bad job at keeping us alive. They had a go at the WHM for healing us when they wernt, said "dont heal noob, just fight"

Almost every party i went in lasted 5-10 mins then we ether got wiped out or disbanded.

                            2. Party leaders who moan to the point of thretaning to kick you because you don't have xxx equipment. This happened to me a few days before. I got tired of trying to ask for help for camping the NM's for the brown belt quest and decided to party. Got an invite and the setup was MNK/WAR (me) DRK/NIN (Leader) PLD/WAR WHM/SMN BLM/WHM.

As soon as i get there i get checked by the leader and he starts raving that i don't have the O.kote gloves or the Brown belt. The conversation went something like this.

LDR>Dude why don't you have them?!
me>Been trying to quest/camp them, no way i can afford them.
LDR>Well if you cant be bothered to get them i cant be bothered to party with you.

Then the WHM fake "DC/d. I know this as the BLM told me to not worry he had a plan, and have been talking it over with the whm.

BLM>Damn, Hey dont kick the MNK yet. Can i have leader i have a WHM in LS who wants to party.
LDR>Yea sure, just remember to kick the mnk after. (This was all in party chat)

"BLM starts casting warp 2 on leader" "leader disappears" He was then kicked from the party
                            "Leo used poop!
                            The attack was ineffective!"

Don't get me started on the dunes. I'm taking rng through there atm. I had one rdm (level 16) wearing level 1 RSE. Uh oh I think. I get the leader to pass me lead, and give the rdm one fight to see if he uses mp. I then ask "what spells do you have?"

"None. Why do I need spells?"

                                /kick

I'm soloing. I have found I can take on EM very easy. Rng is one of the fastest jobs I have ever levelled solo. So looking forward to hitting up Shakrami/Korroloka for those easy target worms.
