It irks me at the start, but I shrug it off. I end up realizing, if I have lead, I can invite who I please and build the party as I see fit. If the other member has a problem, he has no one to blame but himself for giving me control.

The thing is, if I wanted to lead a party, I would have made my own. Not that I don't get what you're saying. But someone always seems to do that to me when I'm not in the mood to lead a party in the first place.

Very true. There are times that I don't really mind, and I just go through and invite people, yet there are times when I'm really not in the mood for /sea all ...

This especially irks me when there's no one seeking in the first place. The leader says, "Hmm, no one's seeking. Here, you take lead and get us some members." Well shit, brainiac, what makes you think that I'm going to have better luck than you are if there's no one seeking to begin with?

Giving me party leader or blind invites really irk me altogether.

I was soloing in Konschtat the other day and I get a blind invite. I accept just to ask why the blind invite, and check the party out. Turns out to just be three of us. The other two are 4 levels ahead of me and I'm suppose to be the tank. I inquire about the blind invite and am told "no one seeking man". To which I reply "Neither was I". So he gives me leader and tells me to find people. I just disbanded the party. He proceeds to /tell for the next half hour or so and rather than get frustrasted I just made a macro /tell xxx n00b

some have misunderstood my post..... I am not complaining about or downing this thread, I agree with alot of the things said here :p I was talking about people that complain about the game it self, not the people complaining about other players. Complaining is therapeutic? thats nice and all, but whineing and bitching gets anoying after a while.

Getting invites when I am not seeking and on a quest/mission/crafting session and then actually getting zilch invites when I am looking to party.

In fact I think I covered this before. Decided it was Murphie's Law.

Yeah, that sucks. Last Saturday, I LFG for almost 2 hours, and I decided to just spend the evening leveling my NPC. Earlier in the week, I popped on for just a couple minutes to talk to my NPC, and I get a /tell asking if I wanted a party. Too bad I didn't have the time to play that day.

When doing something like that with strangers, I guess you'd want to sort that out before leaving town, but since I don't do things like that with strangers, I don't honestly know what that would be like.
If I were just running around with complete strangers, I wouldn't be surprised by this behavior. I'd still be disappointed by it, but I wouldn't be utterly shocked. Recently, I had this happen during an LS event, when the LS leader himself told the group these "ground rules" early on.

I guess that's the risk you take by making your LS friendly and inclusive. You end up taking in some riff raff here and there that wouldn't / didn't make it in a more strict LS.

But why set "ground rules" with LS members in the first place? Does anything really drop on Coffer/LB Item runs that anyone needs to fight over?

                    • Re: What's your pet peeve in FFXI?

I dunno, when we were in The Eldieme Necro doing my AF coffer key, a 2 scrolls of Blizza-something dropped, off the Fallen Mages. I can see people fighting over that if they need it.

But yes, the way I have always played is, you lot for whatever you are there for (obviously) but you let everything else distribute. Unless someone pipes up "Do you mind if I take that?" normally noone cares and they can lot all they like.

                      Another one of Murphie's laws

You lot for a drop that you are there for, and you /random for 950+.

Then you lot against other people and /random for like 10.

Whether or not you think the rules are useful or not, as a participant, you should follow them. I've seen decent BLM scrolls drop during various coffer key runs. And if these items weren't worth fighting over, those players wouldn't have lotted on them. Do you ever see players lotting on Insect Wings? Only when they're being oddballs, and doing lots just to try and outdo each other. That's not the case with Scrolls of Flare though.

I'm not contesting that you should follow ground rules if they are provided. But why provide the rules in the first place? My friends and LS members have no problems making our own money and buying the gear and spells that we need. When out killing coffer mobs, or LB mobs, everyone is contributing, so why worry about who gets what, beyond the items that we are there specifically to get?

I can't think of anything that drops off of a coffer mob, or a G1 mob that should inspire such bickering. If someone is going to be a jerk about an item that costs a few hundred thousand gil, then they probably aren't the kind of person I need to be hanging out with.

Remind me to transfer to your server when SE implements their server transfer system. I think you and your friends are exceptions in the player population, rather than the rule.

It's quite common for me to see complaints from various end gamers in my LS about needing gil, begging for help to do stuff like BCNMs. And then they act like they've hit a brick wall in this game because they can't get help from LS members for the simple act of raising gil.

I guess that brings up another of my pet peeves: players ask the LS for help doing something they should be able to do on their own, and then get all huffy when no one responds. It's like everyone who's busy doing something at the time is obligated to explain themselves, and justify not dropping everything to go help them.
