I guess. SE is so thick-headed sometimes. I bet there were mountains of posts on their forums (I stopped reading them, too much stupid made my head hurt) about how they would manage the downloads and the traffic that went completely ignored. Kinda like all of the Beta testers for FFXIV were and they released that first version crap that never should have seen the light of day.

Macros can be saved serversize. When you're on the character selection screen, you hold CTR+ALT+Shift and press.... I think it's D. If done correctly it informs you that your macros for that character have been saved to POL and can be called upon in the future via CTR+ALT+Shift and Either V or R.

Me and my friends were doing Meeble Burrows today, which is usually a very fun and stress-free activity. We finished the Researcher rank expeditions in Sauromugue Champaign, which made us ready for the Mega Boss of the path. The final bosses can be pretty tough, so we shouted for a 6th. We got one, a guy who said all he wanted was the Mantaca Harness, and he'd even pay for another pop for us. "Another pop," skipping the prerequisite expeditions, costs 1M per person, so we were all wondering where the heck he was getting his money, but what the hell. Mantaca Harness is the rarest item of the fight, ~5% drop rate, but none of us particularly wanted it anyway.

So while we were waiting for the guy to show up, the other guys are talking about what they're hoping to get. Two people are hoping Kokou's Earring drops on both fights, two people want Orunmila's Torque, both of which are common, and the whm wants Manasa Chasuble. Usually I come to these things not expecting to get any gear at all, just to do a fun activity with my friends, but I notice nobody's said anything about Abatteur Subligar, best in slot TP legs for blu, and conveniently also wearable by rune fencer. ~15% drop chance, but it could happen. I ask if I can have those if they drop, and everyone agrees. Then our 6th joins the party.

We use our own pop first (you can only hold one at a time) and not only does the fight go perfectly, but to my shock both rare items drop. Harness and subligar. The pickup guy is psyched, lots the harness, and we all pass and congratulate him. I confirm—over vent—that the subligar is mine, and lot them. My friends pass, there's a pregnant pause ... and the other guy lots them over me.

Now ... nobody ever told this guy we had plans for drops. It seems like we shouldn't have HAD to considering he specifically stated all the wanted was the harness, but it's also true that nobody explicitly told him the plan. Somebody pipes up for me and he says something like "oh, sorry. I thought they were freelot," and on the basis of what I already said, nobody gives him a hard time about it. Considering only two people lotted on anything, I find this very hard to believe, but again don't say anything. He apologizes profusely and even offers to buy us two additional pops beyond what he already said in recompense. Again, bringing a party into this fight without doing prereqs costs six million gil. We accept of course but being predisposed to hate this guy, I'm very cynical and do some math. He was already prepared to pay people to do this. At a maximum of 15% drop rate, he would have expected to have to pay for 7+ runs before seeing another subligar. Even paying us for another 3, he was getting away with ... shall we say a steal.

They next two runs go horribly. We manage to win one, netting us two of the torques, but fail to win the other in time. The third run drops an earring, the chausible, and, to the surprise of exactly no one, no subligar. So everybody walks away with nice drops except me. In the process I did get enough points to buy my Nemetona Cap, but I'm just so depressed about getting screwed over I don't even care. There's no way we are throwing millions of gil away on a 15% chance, but to get another shot at the fight the "legit" way would require us to spend a minimum of 25 days clearing lower levels and farming key items, and then, odds are, it still isn't going to drop, and other than one common and very dispensible earring, nobody other than me even needs anything from that fight anymore. Even if people were cool with that, I wouldn't ask them to commit dozens of hours of time for basically nothing, so long story short I'm never going to see those pants again.

My subscription comes up in four days. I don't know if I'll renew. It would be kindof a dick move considering none of my friends would have reactivated if each other person was not also reactivating, and there's the fact that I just bought the expansion, but ... it just isn't what I thought it would be.

I missed the old days, running around Vana'diel with a tight group, owning faces and feeling like I was part of a superhero squad. Everybody's just .. gotten so much stronger in my absence that most of the time I don't feel like there's any point in me being there. They've got muliple relics/empys per job now. The other guy triple boxes, so he can practically "solo" everything anyway. My red mage is woefully underpowered compared to his pocket whm, so I always end up coming on blu, but with my gear I deal less than a third of the damage of our relic dark knight. Sometimes I scarcely get to engage, he kills so fast. I don't feel like part of the team anymore, or even that it has any place for me. They're just on a completely different level.

I want to catch up, but I only have so much times, and my inadequate attempts to close the gap are already taking a very real toll on my sleep, my health, my studies, and the time I have with my family. Not to mention that most of the things I need to do to get on par, trials, farming dynamis and limbus, fishing, etc, are things that I don't really need any help with, except that soloing tedious shit in isolation is not at all what I came back to the game for! The rest of it involves either a) dragging people back through content they thought they were long done with and have nothing to gain from, which I feel shitty about, or b) tagging along with whatever they're doing and sponging up whatever drops would otherwise go to the floor while barely contributing anything, which just makes me feel more like a useless parasite.

And giving that I am thinking about quitting again, it makes even less sense for me to ask them for help. If I asked them to put their time and effort into helping me finish Almace, only to take it directly into the void, I'd feel terrible about it. And yet again, they don't need my help with anything, so how do we even play together?

Damn this game. Damn the way it seperates people. I wish we were all noobs again and the content was hard again so we'd all need eachother ... again.

Adoulin isn't exactly going to disappear overnight. At bare minimum, it has a whole year before the next big thing overshadows it, and I'm being generous with SE's production times here.

Otherwise I'm in a similar situation as you. It is, to use your word, deflating to see that not even SE seems to care about my favorite job, but meanwhile the latest replacement attempt also gets access to both light armor and magey equipment.

I'm kind of wanting to resub for the double exp weekend, but it'd feel a bit forced to say the least, not to mention needing to rewrite my macro book (thank goodness I only really had the one that was particularly important for the time being). I did intend to end my current hiatus in April, but not quite that early.

I'd be lying if I said that part of me didn't want to keep playing only to get 99 Red Mage and then promptly quit until the 34th of Nevember when SE showed some definitive signs that they've got their crap together regarding the job, or at the very least made it so that we have the most access to freaking Tabards and Chapeaus once again.

If nothing else, resubbing for next weekend means I could at least vent my frustration on the official forums all the sooner, for what little that would accomplish.

EDIT: Huh. Well, it seems by virtue of AF, Relic, and freaking Goliard, we still technically have access to the most Chapeaus in the game. So, seems my anger is only particularly justified towards the Tabards (HQs were not counted).

EDIT2: Although, I suppose the entire point of being angry about the Athos's and Thurandaut sets is that they are both (especially Athos's) essentially ripoffs of the RDM AF armor sets, that actually come with appropriate light armor stats, and that RDM can't use.

Argh. The entire matter makes me so very id-driven.

Haha, this is so much what I mean when it comes to FFXI now, it's just not the same. I would hate this too. I used to love massive group content. Incidentally, I dislike a lot of group content in WoW.

BTW, there were no walls. You had paragraphs, easily readable paragraphs.

Sadly any game whose criteria for success is based on how much time you've invested into it is going to burn you eventually. I've pretty much given up on MMORPGs.
