      So...

...have the evil space aliens from the distant planet of Eorzea Alpha invaded and colonized and interbred with the native species of Vana'diel yet?

Some have been taken, tis true. Seems communications may have been affected by the first wave. Haven't heard anything out of Japan except tiny snippets on the state of Vanadiel for a while now. Eorza seems to be taking over =/

I joined a shout group for voidwatch, Sandy path tier I to IV. Got cut short in the middle of it to go help a LS member with his limit break. That's cool, I'm fine with that.

Later this evening I tried joining a similar run. After sitting around for a whole hour we still haven't started the any of the goddamn fights. Fuck you and your insistence on a full 18 people and your inability to get things started in a timely fashion. I do not have all night, so when I join a run at 8:30, I don't expect to still be waiting for the goddamn thing to start at 9:30, because I want to be getting ready for bed at 11:00. God I hate people. I also hate how getting anything done in this game takes forever. It shouldn't take over an hour just to get started. Not even finished, but fucking started. It's absurd.

So earlier, I asked my LS if anybody could help me with getting Hornetneedle. Take note that after that, I'm basically not going to require help for anything else in terms of my leveling until maybe my Evisceration WSNM. I get asked (by somebody who helped me with Royal Jelly, mind you) why I was apparently fixated on "irrelevant" content, that all my focus should be on blasting my way to 99 and asking questions later. (Take note that this was prefaced with a note on not wanting to tell me how to play.)

Then somebody else chimes in. For appropriate reasons that I shall omit, let us call this person "Moran." Moran goes on about how the only "skillz" I need to keep capped are {Elemental} and {Enfeebling Magic} for my Maat fight, and insightful tips like "u will rarely melee". Not wanting a confrontation in Linkshell chat, I /tell Moran to please stop slaughtering the English language if trying to appear to have an intelligent discussion. Moran then proceeds to belittle me and tell me crap about the RDM Maat fight that I already knew, because Moran is an "experienced plyr" who went 1/2 on the fight.

The kicker? When I directly and politely ask Moran to stop insulting my intelligence, Moran eventually responds that they always say "play the way you want, don't complain." Which I was already doing.

New peeve? "experienced plyr"s, such as Moran.

Closure: my LS was busy doing Voidwatch at the time, so I decided to call it a night, hoping someone can help me with this on Wednesday, or at least some time within the next fortnight.

I turned off the auto disconnect thing in config so I'm guessing theres a problem somewhere.

Skilling up Marksmanship is a tedious process. I've got enough skill to unlock Last Stand, but because a chunk of that is from merits, I'm still locked out. So close and yet so far...

Wow. I've always heard that if friends don't accept you as you are, they were never your true friends anyway. But even then, this was an unfriendly elbow to the gut.

When I quit, one of the things I thought I should do is to give proper notification to somebody that I thought deserved to know I was leaving. He's one of those guys I thought was a good friend. Or even a little too good for my comfort; I sometimes felt he was stalking me. I'd go AFK for a while and come back and he'd just be sitting next to me in the middle of Jeuno or something, like he had just been perched there all day waiting for me to come back. But anyway, he was at least one of those people I could often hold conversations with about anything in the game. He wasn't on when I logged on the last time so I just sent him a message to e-mail me at my gmail address.

Sure enough, he did. Sorry you're going, keep in touch, blah blah blah. So I sent back this e-mail I spent a bit of time thinking about, including explaining my reasons for leaving and such. As part of the e-mail, I included a bit on how I fancied men because, a while back I kind of ill-tempered in the game and he asked me what was up and I had evaded the question at the time. So I figured I owed him an honest response now. Also tried to Facebook him to keep in touch.

Well, it's been about a week now and he hasn't said anything back to me or accepted the friend confirmation. I sometimes go on POL to see if anybody has sent me any POL messages and he's always online so it's not like he suddenly lost the internet. At this point, I'm just going to assume that he has decided not to follow up and I have no interest in pursuing it beyond that. Just kind of a bummer that somebody who always presented himself to me as an almost too eagerly friendly guy would drop all contact like that. In the end, you're really kind of a douchebag, huh?

My understanding was that merits counted for that. I've been known to be wrong though.

That's what I thought too, but when I went into my mog house last night I had 363(I think that was the number) in marksmanship, 22 merits, level 99 COR and the option to unlock Last Stand was greyed out. I've got full marksmanship merits so that would put me at a natural skill of 347, ten points below what's needed to unlock Last Stand.

Have you done the quest with Maat (or maybe the moogle next to him) that costs 10 merits just to unlock the ability to unlock merit WS? (confusing right?)

                                Another LS dope.

I actually started on friendly terms with this guy. We both still had several LB quests to do, and he was helping me with my first (he was 10 levels ahead of me). However . . . he insisted that we need to call two more people for the Banishing Gates in Garlaige. I simply advise him to go through the past like everybody else does nowadays (particularly since he seemed to make a point about soloing things earlier), even go so far as offering to unnecessarily hold his hand through the entire process.

He all but literally said that he'd rather wait for two people to go out of their way to let us go through Garlaige freaking Citadel than to spend "30+mins walking". I elected to get the Exoray Mold first. (Which I eventually did, but that was my bad; I derped and got lost in Rolanberry, since I don't exactly visit the Crawler's Nest very often at all . . .) On my way there, I (try to) explain to him why asking help from more people than absolutely necessary isn't exactly the best idea in the book. I use a metaphor about a machine with fewer moving parts being more efficient. He says that I'm wrong, that machines with several moving parts can be more productive than something like a simple lever. I tell him not to confuse power for efficiency, and that Newton's second law literally means that more moving parts makes a machine less efficient.

"newton was a damn idiot". Full stop.

Well, I was full stop, but he continues going on a tirade that was almost comically tin foil hat-ish about Sir Issac Newton. Saying stuff like Newton couldn't write the laws of the world (I think he was very heavily confused on the usage of "law" as a term), and basically making it so that I couldn't take him seriously as a person any more. Never even bothered saying "April Fool's," either. There essentially was no reasoning with this guy.

So, yeah, I think this guy managed to surpass the guy who tried to tell me how to play the game while not telling me how to play the game. Way to go! Before I shut down for the night, I just said "Read a book. Read a book. Read a matriarch-trysting book."
