Ran across 2 Zones to get to another for a Misson, get there and find out I don't have the map of the place >.< I went back to Bast to get the Map and don't have enough gil, spent it all on my most recent spell >.<

Probably the only reason I'm still playing FFxi is because of one generous stranger. I was lvl'n RDM (by absolute chance cuz I was bored) out near the the Valkurm entrance in La Thiene (where I never ever usually solo'd) and a RDM named Harleydavidson came strolling by on a Chocobo. They /checked me so I /bow'd and did a /dance# ... They /wave'd. Like five minutes later I get a /tell from them asking if I wanted the rest of their gil cuz they were quitting the game. Harleydavidson gave me just under 1 million then logged out a final time. At that point in my FFxi career I'd never seen over 100k on my character at one time. I was really frustrated with how difficult it was (then) to farm for gil as a lowbie (30-40'ish WAR and DNC) and this allowed me to buy Ni and several other things that would have taken me forever to farm enough gil for.

When I leave... I'll probably do the same for another poor soul.

Yeah, sharing the wealth is a nice thing to do (in ffxi not in the US Obama <.< ) When I quit the game, I game out around 15 mil in gil and items to my 2 closest LS members and best friends in game.

When I quit I didn't give anyone anything because I thought I might come back some day, and unlike some people who would drop all of their rare/ex and give away all of their stuff, I couldn't say for absolute certainty that I'd never be back.

Two months later I was banned, along with ~6 million gil, a ton of l33t rare/ex, and at least 30 million in sellable gear. (Gaiters, HQ WHM stuff, roundel earring, etc.) I had planned to give a friend my alexandrite, but it was on my mule account that had been banned a month before I quit (which pissed me off and contributed to me quitting). I'm not saying that if I knew I was going to be banned I'd give it all away, but it feels like such a waste now, all that stuff went *poof* and probably further dragged down the game's economy. I feel bad that no one will get to use that stuff now, but I still can't look back and say I'd have given it up, because the only reason I'm still quit honestly is because of my account being gone, and I refuse to start over on pure principle.

I remember seeing you all the time in Sandy. I really don't see anyone from Excellence anymore at all. I think maybe someone named Dierdren is wandering around at times but aside from her, I see nobody from that 'legendary' LS anymore. Funny to me that you were in one of the most known end-game LS's and I was in one of the most known social LS's. Two sides of the same coin.

The first 2 end-game LS's I ever participated in were broken from the drama of 'that guy' finally attaining their relic and then instantly leaving the shell that essentially got them the weapon to attempt to join yours. I was so new to the scene, I really didn't understand what was happening... but looking back on it.... pretty hilarious. Especially given the fact I don't think either of the people who did this made the grade for Excellence and wound up ostricizing themselves from those who considered them friends.

That's what usually happens, lol. We had so many people apply, and transfer to the server before getting accepted, then get denied. lol. Why spend the money and have a three month transfer wait period if you don't know it's a sure thing? I think some of them think that by transferring first it would make them look more dedicated, but no one ever looked at it that way, we looked at your gear, if you passed a BG check (those were fun, remember BG checks?), and possibly a trial if we were on the fence with voting.

People were willing to step on anyone to get in. I was lucky - I knew a lot of people from an old shell that put in a good word for me, without them, I'd have never gotten in. I did piss off a shell I was in for a short time (less than six months) because I quit after I got my novio earring - had nothing to do with getting loot and leaving or even joining another shell, but everything to do with the fact that I'd show up and do my thing and people would still try to start drama with me. So I got my points, got my drop, and I quit, and since I worked and earned my points, that was well within my right. Was I supposed to work all of that time toward a goal and say, "Well, this isn't working out, I'm gonna quit without getting anything out of this shell except aggravation."? They thought I quit to join Ex. In reality, I quit because of them being assholes to me. I didn't join Ex for at least three months after I left that shell, but they still think that's the reason I left, was to "steal" their loot and take it to a better shell.

I miss the game, but I don't miss all the "WAAAAAAAH, you left our LS for a LS that does other things that we don't do and we're going to be super butthurt about it because you want to do other things like camp HNMs and Einherjar and we only do Sea and Dynamis and sometimes Sky, so we're going to ostracize you for leaving and finding a LS that does what you actually want to do and bitch because you got gear that you earned WAAAAAAH." Not one bit.

I don't really think it works like that anymore. I've not heard of that type of drama since Abyssea dropped the A-bomb on end-game. It's pretty nice. Now it seems that a majority of LS's are social/endgame hybrids. Point systems probably still exist but I haven't heard about one in use for a very long time.

I only had a 75 DNC with mediocre gear when I started into endgame... but I had something far better ... a BLM friend who pretty much demanded the LS to let me in. Funny that I was laughed at for bringing DNC to Dyna and whatnot ... then they'd figure out that DNC was actually pretty useful when I'd prevent many a wipe from being in the "BLM party", a well timed Divine Waltz, and then a evasion gear swap. I might die but the BLMs and BRDs would have another chance to sleep all the mobs.

Dierdren had a thread up on FFXIAH recruiting for a different LS. I haven't seen anyone with an Excellence pearl in a long time.

A lot of former Ex members from when I played are now playing WoW. I was in the Excellence guild in one of its first incarnations back when I initially quit FFXI, with Stan and Cli and a few others, then we moved servers and built it again, couldn't recruit people that didn't suck, and I quit for almost a year and that guild was gone. Now it's back but on another server and I don't have the time/motivation for raiding or really any WoW endgame content so I stayed where I'm at. But a lot of those people still play WoW.

Yeah... many moons ago my LS, MXCMercenaries, found Dierdren and 2 others attempting to kill Turul. They failed. They totally expected us to steal the mob cuz they had Excellence pearls. We took the mob, brought them on-board, and got them a proc to their utter amazement, lol. Yet, nothing dropped. That was the last time I saw Excellence pearls.
