The Dunes was a great leveling spot if you went with people who weren't fuckheads. I had a static way back in like 2005 and we blasted through the Dunes with no issues at all. I've had some exceptional parties there. BUT. The Dunes was also the place where things were much more likely to go horribly wrong. Yes I have horrible memories of the Dunes but I have good ones too. Same with Garbage, Altepa, the Mire, and pretty much anywhere I soloed BLM. XD
but the Dunes was the best spot at level 15 to 20 and then from 20+ was Quifim Island doing worm/crab/pugil parties.
Most common =/= best. But that's not the point I'm trying to make. The point I'm trying to make is that how (and this is a real question) does slower = better?

1 part nostalgia
1 part getting everything too easily trivializes it
The issue arises when people disagree on whether or not new exp is actually too fast or if old exp was in fact disgusting and unpleasant and never should have been that slow to begin with and we all just have stockholm syndrome.

I'm not going to argue with the slow part, you've won there, but skilling up is what mattered to me in the Dunes. Yeah I like the levels, but what is the point of having all those levels if you can't hit a damn thing in front of you? Riddle me that.

Skill levels were silly and arbitrary to begin with and don't really add anything other than another chore to eat up your time and prevent you from participating in the fun content? I dunno.
I've recently started skilling up some of the weapons I never use for WAR. I went from 0-150 on GS in less than three hours, and 0-150 on scythe is another ~3 hours. Skill ups at the low levels are ridiculously easy at this point, but I see what you're getting at.
In other news: saevel needs to crawl into a hole and die. The dude just calls everyone a troll if they don't agree with him and tells everyone to blacklist them like he does.
Well finally got subjob quest solo'd. Pinged lvl 26 monk and thought fuck it lets beat up some ghoul's in gusgen. 2nd Ghoul dropped it!! Also walked without sneak or invis (but a few times nearly needed a new change of underware! ) to jeuno and last night while reading my kindle for 3 hours waited to complete chocobo quest. Now abck at bastok with a lvl 10 war/mnk combo with a greataxe. (with teh old galka brickshouse I never levlled gaxe so starting from scratch. However still no low levels I've seen about

I just have to say, Saevel's SCH Envy is awe inspiring. Especially given that the job just gets clumsier and clumsier to play to the point I no longer even enjoy it. And it has the same "drawbacks" that people say about RDM compared to specialists: it doesn't heal as well as WHM, it doesn't nuke as well as BLM. Did you know Klimaform is not Enhancing magic, yet its duration is affected by Composure? On RDM, I could cast it with Light Arts up and still keep the spell up full time. Can't say that about SCH main. And it recently had many of its job defining spells pawned off to people subbing /SCH, all to the end of making SCH main unnecessary for Voidwatch. Did I mention it's extremely clumsy to play these days?
The only people who could possibly think SCH has it good right now are people who don't actually play the job and seem to have gone on believing its BLM+1 ever since it started receiving tier IV nukes. Quite frankly, I think being a SCH sucks right now. I hate to play it. And frankly, nobody ever asks me for it. That's why I'm thinking its time to just drop the job in favor of another one. But I recently bought Thunder V, which was expensive. So I would feel really dumb for just dropping it now.
