Depends on the player. If I took a job from 1-99 in three days, I don't think it would be pathetic because I have, at least, a working knowledge of all the jobs, whether I've played them or not. The same can be said for some returning players. A completely new player that took a job from 1-99 in that amount of time could be pathetic. It depends on the player.

Well I am upset, the old way it took months to get to 50-75. But now it's so damn easy a caveman can do it for god's sake.

Why would I want it to take months to get my fifth job to level cap? Or, are you equating long and boring with difficulty level?

No I am referring to the old ways of XI. Sitting in the dunes when 5k an hour was considered decent. The excitement of knowing your job meant something and was valuable to the party instead of just randomly throwing together a group of misfits and book burning on skeles.

Game is top heavy and the level cap went up considerably. It'd be bad for the health of the game if exp remained as it was. You'd have the few new players who wandered in getting completely discouraged at their inability to participate in any content whatsoever. Then they'd leave and you'd have no new blood, just old veterans finally departing for good. Then the game slowly withers away into obscurity and we'll all be sad.

Meh. After leveling four (almost five) jobs to cap when I played - back before Abyssea came out, mind you - I wouldn't have minded being able to at least spam through my subjobs.

Brand spanking new players should not be able to leech, unfortunately there's no way for SE to mandate that without fucking everyone over. At the age of this game though, even I've come around to the idea of Abyssea and fast leveling. Not that I'll ever start playing again, but more power to those that still do and are having fun.

Seriously, I've felt absolutely no desire to login to FFXI since I picked up Skyrim. The game is just that good.

I find this hilarious. The Dunes sucked. Why is it that whenever people talk about how much better it used to be, they always bring up the Dunes? I hated it when I was a new player and I certainly wouldn't want to go back there.

Well that's in your own opinion Squiggs. Not trying to be a bitch about it, but the Dunes was the best spot at level 15 to 20 and then from 20+ was Quifim Island doing worm/crab/pugil parties. Up until about 40 then CN to 50.
